Housing demolition timer need to be changed! Sitting on your property needs to count.

I'm going to agree with you on the going inside point, OP. I've always scratched my head a bit that entering the perimeter of the property didn't count and only zoning in did. Because you can interact with your house without going in, such as while gardening or doing chocobo stable activities. Or just sitting on your exterior furniture. It's not hard to go inside. But it does seem it would be more logical that if you enter the perimeter of the property, you're resetting the trigger.

I'm thinking it has something to with the programming. The outside is a public place where anyone can go so it doesn't recognize you being around your house until you actually go inside. Basically, it can't tell the difference between you being on your property or in the ward in general.

Or it just never occurred to them. You have plot-specific triggers like your address or the items you have outside. So it seems there is something that stores information related to the plot. Why not also anyone who falls under the "owner" moniker? In the same way the system knows the exterior items belong to this plot, it would know the owner belongs to it and could trigger the "usage" of the house.

I'm afraid your house qualified for the definition of "neglected" seeing as you admitting that you could not find the time to enter your house and thus lost your house due to neglect. Had you given your house "the proper attention", you'd never have been exposed to the demolition timer.

at first I actually felt sorry for OP but with more reading.... so you tell me you did sit INFRONT of your house and were not bothered to right click ONE TIME at the door for 45 days? Everyone knows how the timer works, so this is on you, not on the game. It would have taken 10sec maxium. 10 sec! If you only wanna sit in the housing ward just buy an apartment. It doesnt matter if "you bought it" and "you earned it" - we all know the rules. They apply to all of us, if you didnt like the rule in the first place dont buy a house.

I am glad you felt something at all. Yes, it would only take 10 sec had i been aware. I addressed that as my fault. This post is for it to not be a thing at all. Points back to my 3 ways to fix it.

I have to agree with people here... If you refused to use the house then why get so salty over it? If you just felt like AFKing on the lawn why not on the lawn outside your FC? If you have a friend with a house just AFK on their lawn. Hell, be made a tenant and then you can enjoy all the perks of a house minus needing to go inside. Clearly yoy weren't using it so why the fuss? While I wholly agree the demolition system is flawed and horrible you knew about it a long time ago. What annoys me personally are those who just want a place just for the sake of wanting one but never using it. I use my house everytime I log on. Whenever I craft, check my retainers, garden, or just to tweak around with the layout and furniture. If I decide to AFK or nap I do so INSIDE my house.

If you refused to use the house then why get so salty over it? Stating what can be improved on is that salt? My post is 100% solution related.

If you just felt like AFKing on the lawn why not on the lawn outside your FC? Nothing i said had anything to do with AFK'ing it was about queuing up. Even if i did it should not matter is the point. Based on the improvements i provided.

Clearly yoy weren't using it so why the fuss? using the house by being on it's property and playing the game? No fuss needed in that.

What annoys me personally are those who just want a place just for the sake of wanting one but never using it. (Clearly you have personal issue) So moving on.

You could have done things like retainers/orchestrions/armoire at your personal house instead of your FC house, OP. That is also an option. Despite my dissatisfactions with the housing system, I’m hard pressed to really feel sympathy for you.

Not sure if anyone clarified this (I haven’t finished reading through the entire thread), but Crystal Tools was used only for 1.0 (which is another reason why it had so many problems). Crystal Tools apparently worked really well for XIII despite it being a bit dated for it, but it did not translate well into an MMO environment since it was made for single-player console games.

FFXIV now uses the Luminous Engine for its coding. That said, there are remnants of 1.0 coding still around (according to the developers) that may make Housing harder to code if there’s a lot of spaghetti floating around in its coding, but they no longer use Crystal Tools as the main engine.

I really don’t feel sympathy for you, OP. You knew about the timer. Considering you’re on balmung and if I were in your shoes, I would’ve been extra cautious to do what I needed to do to keep my house. Shoot, I’m on a lower populated server, and because I got my dream plot, I’m constantly paranoid about losing my house, even though I’m on and in my house every day. I make it a point to go inside at LEAST once a day, even if I’m only on for a few minutes (you never know with the rumors going around about the timer glitch being back).

The system needs to be fixed, but not by what you are suggesting. People don’t need even MORE notifications to warn them their house is getting demolished. You can que inside your home, you don’t need to be outside for that. You should be checking your stuff from YOUR house rather than the fc house if you “lose track of time” for your own plot.

If you truly cared about keeping your plot, you wouldn't need notifications to remind you to go inside. It’s YOUR responsibility. Not SEs to constantly remind you. You want it? You do what needs to be done to keep it.

You should not need to be paranoid about playing this game and loosing your house. Thus the solutions i provided, if you do not like adding notice pop up than vote for the removal of it not counting when outside, no matter how hard it is to decode.

support one or more or all of the solutions provided here:
3 ways to fix this is:

1) Allow being on the outside on your property to count for all who log on and pay subs. Which i did often to que for PVP matches.

2) Provide a Pop up warning when you log into game showing clearly that you are going to loose your land if not enter house click here to confirm notice. This is do to FFXIV housing rules just starting again. thx!

3) Convert to instance housing for all that can never be demolished by a timer.

That would actually be a really good idea, for them to send you a notification in-game that your house will soon be taken from you unless you go there and walk around inside it.

In real life, you get notifications if your house is about to go into foreclosure for whatever reason, and they're giving you one last chance to make things right, so why not here?

I'm still confused on why you thought just sitting outside of the house would count, when a plot is empty you can still sit outside, you just see a red zone where the house it. It'd make sense that the red area is the house.

'This is my house, but the outside is just my property', you know, like a real house.

I’m going off of the tone of your posts. They sound quite angry, but you could have—at any point during these 45 days—stepped into your house to take care of things. Instead, you opted to check retainers and do stuff at your FC house and just lounge about in your yard. I can’t really feel sorry for that.

Why should they overcomplicate a perfectly fine and functional system because you don't wanna step inside a building for 2 seconds. I will admit that the game is a little unreliable on sending the notices, but if its that hard for you to click on an entrance then how the heck do you even play this game?

They do not need to change the requirements for resetting the auto-demolition timer. The player(s) just need to be responsible enough to step inside it once every week at least.

This whole thread is the result of the laziness of the player not taking the literal FEW SECONDS to step inside his own house once in a while. That was his fault and he has to live it. The Dev team is not your personal problem fixer because you can't put even a modicum of effort into a basic function.

No need to feel sorry for me nor do I expect it.

What was stated is the need to have the outside count if we need to have a timer at all.

The other option if we need to have timer is, an in game pop up notice.

The last option is to change or add instances we zone in so we all can have a plot with no timers need.

The fact is the Dev team created this issue which makes us need to enter the house and that same team can change that. This is where that change starts on this post. Lazy or not. It starts here. I am glad this post is getting the attention it needs.

It’s already been stated repeatedly why they probably do not have the outside programmed to count—what with the amount of people that can enter any given yard for any given house, how is the server supposed to identify that it’s the plot’s owner? This game is littered with the remnants of code that are over a decade old, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this code is the limitation here.

While yes, they can give you an in-game pop-up, you already receive multiple emails. I don’t know about you, but my email is all pushed to my phone and I check it daily. If you’re concerned about it going to spam, you can add the addresses to your address book, which should prevent that. There is also a Timers menu that shows up for you AND any tenants you may have discussing estate demolition.

I’m all for instanced housing. I’d rather have it as opposed to ward housing anyways. But the developers seem keen on it not being a thing in the foreseeable future.

Can the Dev team tell us why they can not ID us on the property? There are other triggers they can use outside (stables, gardening, Sitting, etc...)
