Unfortunately it's much likelier that they dragged it on like that so that more people would pre-order, claim their pre-order bonuses, and then no longer be eligible to cancel their preorder when the bad news were harshly confirmed. Notice how the fact the Viera "females only" informative slide was only shown in Tokyo, despite the reveal being in Paris? Hm.
And even if that wasn't their intent, that's what ended up happening to a lot of people and it just stinks.
