FFXIV Confessions

The people on the "What things annoy you?" thread will hate me for it, but... I love jumping around, instead of walking normally, both on foot and mounted. It's a bad habit that reoccurs here and there back from the WoW days with sommersaulting Night Elves :rolleyes:. Whenever I move from A to B I do it while jumping xD.

I still make it a habit to shut everything down because (1) it's a good safety precaution (2) I've been scarred for life.

I remember when I was a kid 25 years ago, we feared something like that could happen so my family used to turn everything electric off vut I can't imagine something like that happening to me now - maybe the storms where I live are just too weak lol

I did that a lot on my nightelf aswell. I loved the occasional somersault.
But I've mostly gotten rid of this habit in FF14. I often jump to get peoples attention when they're positioned poorly or running in the wrong direction. And sometimes it's my silent "ready, let's go".
But BRD/ MCH jumping from one side another the whole goddamn time during a bossfight really annoy me... that's just excessive and often makes healing harder because no matter where I position myself, they always manage to get out of aoe heal range... also, ranged dps that stand at the other side of the fcking world, escpecially when there's nothing dangerous going in melee/ mid-range.

New peeve: Dancers who don't realize that Steps deal damage and don't bother to get close enough. And refuse to move in after being told. Those are your highest potency moves, get your arses over here!

I live in South East Asia. The weather can change drastically from where I am from. It could be scorching hot in the morning then raining in the evening. I have read that our standard for "heavy rain" qualifies as storm in other parts of the world. So it might be possible our storms are somewhat stronger than what you're familiar with.

I am immediately suspicious of anyone group that doesn’t say hello at the beginning of a dungeon (and often consider bailing and running screaming for the hills)

Kind of a new one due to Shadowbringers but I went from level 36-56 before I realized I was missing "Heat Blast". Kept getting confused why my fellow MCHs would be behind me then slowly raise above me in aggro til I was dead last. xD

Plus sometimes a shirk a healer just to see what might happen.

Healer hits "ready" so we get the 8/8.
I hit the 20 sec countdown because there a nin, sch, and dnc in the party
5 seconds later the same DNC "This is taking too long" and pulls the boss.

So this time I DM the OT (who was a total bro) and give him the details of my revenge. We both agree to pull in tank stance and play agro tag for a minute. then right before the TB comes out, we turn off tank stacne and BOTH shirk the DNC. He gets killed.

I should note that before we pulled, we DMd the rest of the party to let them know the plan

Healers didn't raise the DNC and at 2% we all stop attacking and let the boss kill us. wipe

DNC ofc freaks TF out. to which we all basically reply "sorry, we weren't ready for the pull, maybe wait for the countdown next time".

DNC leaves, and we 7 man the raid

*we could have finished but I didnt want to give the DNC a carry so that why we reset at the end

In low level content (50-67) I just spam flare, aoe thunder, and freeze because I can't be bothered to put fire II on my hotbar, and because I think fire II is a horrible spell that needs to go away from my hotbar ASAP.

But blm aoe just feels weak at low levels regardless, and it's kind of disappointing.

I once was an frost-mage as I saw a white mage who did nothing but heal and didn't want to hard-carry them for free.

I turn off Tank stance if a DPS wants to pull groups ahead of me. I don't mind pulling wall to wall to much If I know my healer can handle it. I typically ask healer what his pace is. I have encountered so many healers that just cant seem to keep up in duty finder.

When I dps, I purposely refuse to do aoe spells when I dps when there is a guy who yells at the healer for not keeping up with the tank

I feel that while FFXIV offers one of the best maintank experiences in any MMO the offtank experience is horrible. I view the offtank role as wearing a dunce hat: you do less DPS and have no control over the fight... you’re basically dead weight. Being offtank is riding the short bus... except you’re not in the bus, you’re strapped to the front bumper Mad Max style with a gag on...

FFXIV offtank design is basically “you only exist in case the MT refuses a rez after failing a mechanic”. Sure sometimes you share a cleave but that’s like giving someone a last meal in their way to the gallows...

So...

I get “triggered” when my co-tank wants to maintank but won’t say so, and instead just pulls right after I put up the countdown.
When that happens I go into berserk mode. I will time provoke to go off 1 second after Leeroy tries to provoke. I will line up tank busters to hit Leeroy in the blast / cleave. I have even kept it up when I highly suspected the healers were not able to keep us up.

If there is no tank drama... when I join a DF my fingers are hovering over my keybinds for tank stance to try and be the first one to have it on when I zone in, so I can avoid being the dunce, er, OT.

If we both had it on when I zone in and nothing is said, I will have the countdown timer open and hit it the second the gate goes down.

All that said if the other tank speaks up, or I zone in with stance off or if I join someone else’s party I will back off and wear the dunce hat...

Lastly... I’d confess that I have been hesitant to accept roles as a tank in statics, even for my own FC, for fear that I might be asked to offrank.

I obsessively watch the gear of anyone leveling a tank in my FC hoping they give up so I won’t have to fight it out over the maintank spot... because my nature is to be gracious and... well... I will switch roles or dust off my WoW tanks (where tanking is not that great, but at least MT and OT are equals), before I accept offtanking ...

Thats actually really funny. I play GNB as my main because I love the aesthitic of the job. so I never quite mind to be an OT in many positions. If you have a static group and need an OT hit me up. Time to scum this up a whole new level, stormblood edition:

-For awhile, took advantage of the strikeout system in DF to use up to 2 of them just to see if I could get an in-prog dgn as a tank

-Exclusively as a dps, bailed on any dgn that was lvl 30 or lower

-Exclusively as tank or healer, bailed on any dgn that was lvl 30 or lower provided the rest of the party was not new and they were lvl 60+

-Killed lots of uncalled hunts solo

-When bored, went out of my way to sabotage people in "Leap of faith" Gate by using my big femroe body back then to trip them up (trust me, it worked. A lot)

-Actually used the "I had lag" excuse when I wanted to finish up eating something because I was waiting in queue and it popped earlier than usual. Variants of that are : "My mouse died," "My keyboard died" "left the stove on" and "Ubereats is here".

Wait, you can DM in Eden? I thought the block all tells in instances cause something something harassment. Did they remove that and I just totally missed that bit of info? And how where you able to get 7 tells out fast enough to coordinate all that, while dodging in E1?

There is a large pile of little tiny lala bones in the canyons beneath the invisible city because I have been throwing lala over the edge on a near daily basis since I was let out of the time rift Lou put me in when Dalamud broke.

You still can't actually get tells while in duties.

2 years into FFXIV, I still have not unlock the ARR Hard Mode dungeons.
I had no reason to do them back when I was progressing ARR-HW. No reason to unlock them now except to clear quest markers; which is low below in my to-do list right now.

I do not like Alliance Raid.
Only done the first two from HW and Rabanastre from SB. Did them once just for the sake of trying it then never step into it again. Reason: I get disoriented. They're confusing for me. I even watch guide beforehand but I get overwhelmed with the many mechanics and just noped out from proceeding. Even when I had a friend who willing to do call outs for me.
I want to try enjoy it. Maybe I just need to run enough times to be accustomed to them. But the anxiety, man.

I make my sis press the button for my crafting macro for an hour or two everytime she's watching netflix from my ipad... she dont mind it... i like it...

I enjoy running the alliance raids(though i loath LotA and Syrcus for the sheer volume of my ques they take up). I know it feels like a lot of mechanics when youre new, but if you break it down it really isnt that much. You have 4 bosses with typically 3-5 mechanics each(some less, a few more). When the runs are new you experience all of them. Now that we outlevel everything by a ton, you tend to not see too much from the second half of most of the fights. So thats like 1.5-2 dungeons worth of mechanics. Learning all 9 instances at once? A bit daunting. But one at a time? Much more doable. And as a healer, the most important thing is just to keep up on heals and res the fallen when you can. Or you could put this off, and in 6ish weeks join us on the front lines exploring the new alliance raid. No one knows the mechanics yet, so its clearly not your fault if you mess anything up. And being there from the beginning, getting some gear upgrades while theyre still relevant, and hopefully being engaged with the story might just get you past the anxiety.

If you've only done the HW/SB raids, you might want to try the Lv50 Crystal Tower raids - they're easier (though still some instant-death things you need to learn to hide from) and if you're into the story, it ties into Shadowbringers.

If you're overwhelmed by the amount of "flashiness" on screen, you might want to look at the setting in the character configuration menu that lets you turn other players' battle effects down or off.

I did most of the level 80 content as Dancer not knowing that Bloodshower and Rising Windmill existed. It wasn't until someone in my static told me about all the dropped procs I had no idea I had done.

Then it's prudent of me to tell you of the "Dangling Fountain" problem. When going into Flourish or any of the steps, there could be a Fountain combo proc from Cascade just sitting there from when you were trying to build on feathers/proccing Reverse Cascade/Fountainfall(especially fountainfall). I make sure to get rid of Fountain before entering burst phases, if it's there.

I sometimes take a break during MSQ roulette and go have a short meal.

That's one reason I love that roulette.

i would hard cast verraise in my early days as rdm. just to annoy people that stood in the fire.

Isn't that the sole purpose of movie roulette? Getting free exp while doing real life stuff? Eating, bathroom break, doing laundry, build a new house ... I afk during most of the cutscenes to cook and eat aswell.

The one major complaint I have is that SE really needs to make it all movie and do away with the live action stuff. :P

This is what I hope to achieve myself. This being my first expansion, I am less paranoid to participate in new combat contents. Before, I dread thinking about trying (normal) 8-man raid because I was several months late into SB. Even the normal story trials took me a few days to man up and press that register duty button. But with ShB, I am more open to try the Eden raid on the week it dropped. Hopefully, it will be the same with alliance raid too.

I do have the intention to run CT now that I have cleared ShB; to get a different perspective/feel on the ending. I know they're easier now but still stalling as I'm still uncomfortable with the idea of "running alliance raid" haha.

I already have battle effects set to limited. Making other alliance party names set to initials to reduce clutter. Change name colors so I could easily differentiate between my own party and others. But I still find it a mess for me to cope visually. I find the (some) huge boss model makes it worse. But like I said in previous post, the reason to this unfamiliarity is mostly due to not giving myself a chance to run the encounter more than once.

I play healer just because it is easier to solo with it (and there wasn't RDM when I began). That's why I basicly play solo most of time. That's so true that the only extreme trials I do regularly is those I can solo.

So, being a filfhy casual, I never ever really tried savage. Joining a static is a thing I can't imagine myself doing (since I think I have bad rep here and on Reddit, so, no one would like to go savage with me healing) and on PF I hear so many horror stories about it that in the end I end up noping, because I think I will become one of those who is protagonist of those stories.

So, I tend to refrain from any interaction because I think everyone finds me bad and annoying.
