Giving up for today. Me and my boyfriend have been trying to get through this quest for hours, like since 8:30 AM EST. This is probably one if the most horrible days I've had with this game. First day of Heavensward went much better.
6hrs non stop trying no Luck. I hate you so effing much right now SE for not having more instance servers for this. Makes me wish I didn't get the collectors edition. early access my ass can't even get into other areas without this....
Finally got in
COME ON SE!!!!! You had to know this would happen. Why not rent extra servers for the first month, maybe more, then allow free full server transfers at the end of the month!
ARR> Stormblood > HW
Really I'm just miffed about the fact that Square enix has said jack shit about this stupid fucking quest since this morning, basically saying "LOL WERE WORKING ON SOMETHING GUISE JUST CLICK RAUBAHN OVER AND OVER AGAIN XD". It's frankly insulting, as I got up as soon as maintinance was over only to be bottlenecked by a MSQ. Good job making me feel like I wasted 60$ Square
I gave up a few minutes ago because with my luck thee's no way i'm getting in right now
This launch is on Warlords of Draenor's level of bad. I certainly hope the dev team learns from this, and considers some sort of compensation to those who played during EA period.

I cleared it.....
It took 7 hours but I did it
Server congestion I get. An absurd oversight to not have a DF queue, I even understand. But when the only response is, "we have plenty of instances available" and "we recommend waiting and trying again at a later time" when everyone's very aware that only more people are going to log in, that's ridiculous. I haven't read anywhere that they're "working on it" in any capacity. Just 'oh well, wait a few days, maybe the game will work then' ..?
So SE not only dropped the ball on this, but seem to be, from their posts, planning on sitting on their hands for the next few days to a week or more without doing anything about it.
At this point I would be satisfied with an, "Oops, we're working on it, hold tight" comment.
Yep, can't get in to the instance so I'm stuck with MSQ. This sucks.
Is it still early access if you can't access anything
I've been playing FF14 since Beta and I have to say one of the things I like most about FF14 is how smoothly the servers run all the time. Of all my time playing, i think i've had fewer than 5 times where i experienced lag or dc. Maintenance were always on time and i cant remember the last i experienced noticeable lag.
I'm going to give SE the benefit of the doubt and will just consider this an anomaly, a miscalculation on their part. This game makes enough money that SE should be able to keep the game running smoothly for most of the time. It's nothing to be overly upset about since this is SE's first big mishap for as long as i can remember. I'm just going to chill grinding FATEs and dungeons and let others do this instance first to help alleviate congestion.
This incompetence and gross negligence knows no bounds.
Right. They don't even need to be physical servers. Amazon Web Services and other hosting solution services like them will be happy to loan out cloned instance servers that can spin up and spin down based on demand, and they'll only charge you for the time you use the server. A few thousand bucks and some foresight could have allowed the instanced servers to run on these temporary clones, and then when the congestion has cleared up in 2-3 weeks, you release most of the servers and only leave 1-2 up in case demand spikes at the next patch.

Japanese community was prepared for issues like this before the launch of stormblood, people go stand in a line from the bridge to raubahn and wait patiently untill it's their turn.
People really need to work together for this quest during early access phase, I have a video example of this:

thumbs up for this community
Every time go to do it right before fighting starts kicks me out and says error. Guess SE can't spend money to beta test there expansions before releasing them. Out of 16 years playing mmo's this has to be worst for bugs. Think they better higher better programmer's
They really should have just taken the game down for emergency maintenance. It's been almost twelve hours since early access started and this problem has existed ever since the initial rush began. I went off to do other things in-game, I came back and it was still an issue. So I went to nap for a few hours - then I woke up and it ended up still being a problem.
I also tried the 'queue in single file' thing - that didn't work either.
These are the dumbest things I have seen and heard. The instance server is shared. The line is just an illusion. In fact it is not only shared with this quest but other MSQ, other job quest, and other instances. How can people be so blind on how these work?
And fixed it how? The only choice I see is flag quest done somehow or move all the instance servers to that quest and turn off every other thing that uses instance servers. This is SE thinking the have X amount of resources and only having a tenth of that and it has happened multiple times.

"Just come back later!"
How about fix this shit instead.

Same response, but an acknowledgement of the problem at hand, and an assurance that they are trying to come up with something to fix it.Quote:
FFXIV Producer and Director Yoshida here.
I would like to explain the current congestion issue regarding instanced battle content, including the Stormblood main scenario quest “Best Served with Cold Steel,” due to the Duty Finder crashes at the start of early access.
As announced earlier, there are a huge number of players currently playing Stormblood, and as a result, the servers continue to experience a large amount of stress. For this reason, we are currently limiting the number of players that can enter instanced content so that it does not lead to major server crashes.
However, this has caused massive congestion to enter instanced content and I would like to sincerely apologize for this.
If you are unable to enter instanced battle content, we ask you to please wait and try again at a later time. We understand that this unfairly places the burden on our players, but we require more time until the issue can be resolved. We continue to work on measures to address this issue and will follow up once we have an update.
Again, we sincerely apologize for this level of congestion occurring during early access when many of our players are the most excited to play.
Everyone on the team will continue to put in our full effort to ensure an enjoyable gaming experience, and I would like to thank you for your continued support.
My biggest question here is what the hell did SE think here? Did they think at all? This is a MSQ that ppl have to complete in order to proceed and unlock even a single dungeon! Why not make it a priority to allow ppl to get past this point?
If SE refuse to fix this problem they should at least support the efforts that a portion of the player base is doing by standing in line by moving those players unwilling to do this to instances of the map where they can spam all they want.
I am the King of England! You believe that as well? Companies never say they are working on it and not actually working on it. They literally just have to say "It took us a few days to find a fix and test the server before we brought it up live." Keep enabling SE maybe we will get more 1.0 and 13s later.
THE SKY IS FALLING!
Seriously... I think a lot of people on the forums right now would have mental shutdowns at the very onset of a stressful situation the way they react to stuff. If you've ever worked with this kind of software system, you know things break. it happens, they are working on it. Calm the hell down.
I heard the quest after cold steel is called "vaporware"
part of be wonders if the real cause of the problem is somebody made a mistake in a spreadsheet somewhere might explain a few things
well, all 3 japanese datacenters are doing this, people are just patiently wait in line for it.
i get alot of hate reactions offcourse, but japanese servers seem to succeed with this system.
This is not a break. This is not a bug. Not a bug. Get that. This is a design that doesn't have the resources. I can't fit a 500 pound man through a four foot hole. You can't gate all your player base behind one instance. Stop defending and get the difference.
