Nope, just pointing out that on an international gaming platform, requiring international players to only communicate in English is English-centric.

You're also assuming that I glorify Japan. Nope, not even close. I am responding to this thread as someone from a culture that has had intensely volatile relationships with Japan, historically and personally. It's easy for me to respond with pathos and disregard all objective reasoning. Unfortunately I cannot just dismiss "JP Only" shouts as discriminatory. Relevant section is below:

This exactly. I have no idea why there are still people crying about JP/EN/FR/etc only parties.. If you want to PT with them so bad... learn some of the language.. and if not, then go PT w/ someone else. Players with apparently low self-esteem who rage over not getting into a party where ppl don't even speak your languague are just a lost cause. SE has already stated that they will keep the international servers, so those of us who CAN play nicely with other people in different languages will still be able to just as we do now. Whenever they get around to offering regional (or simply language specific) servers, those who can't handle a simple culture shock are free to scurry into their own dead servers. And i am sorry i gotta say NA players do not do this. They more time then JP players party with anyone. So YES its wrong to me and i am entitled to think that way. As you are also. Lets leave it as we agree to disagree. We do not need better Communication we need either:

A) people willing to use auto-translate and party with others
B) Single Language servers

So, 7 years on XI and 1 year on XIV? So you're about 16-18? That would explain a lot if true.

I stopped reading here. I've heard so many horror stories from Japanese players about being harassed by American players I don't know where to begin. Don't make the Japanese players out to be bad guys. There are mean people on both sides, and I am sad for you that one bad apple spoiled the bunch for you. Much in the same way a few apples from the other side spoiled the bunch for some Japanese players.

Dude if you take all the English speakers from all 8 servers and put them in one server and all the JP speakers and add them to one server it is MORE PEOPLE TO PLAY WITH ON A SINGLE SERVER.

I have never heard of NA players saying JP only. Sorry but if it happens then all the more reason to get English servers.

Either way its wrong weather its JP or NA. I never once saw a NA say "NA Only" but if it happens and im wrong it still does not negate my point. We need people to play together or go to a server where they will play with everyone.

I really shouldn't have to explain this, but I will. When I say Japanese players being harassed by American players, I need you to step outside the box of "JP Only" and "NA Only". I'm referring to actually causing a person grief beyond the context of "I'm sorry, I can't understand your language so I'd like to decline partying with you" and more along the lines of kill stealing, training mobs onto people, etc.

I can actually agree with you on one thing though, its bad whether it's Japanese, American, German, whoever. There's a douche in every country.

I can be a little empathetic here. Maybe you'd rather work on your first language skills before attempting to jump into another for the sake of communication. However, have you ever thought about why your experience in the past and present with Japanese players is different from mine? You just might benefit from opening your mind a bit more.

FF7 ftw! Why can't we all just get along? Hopefully a better auto translate system will help to solve the language barrier. I have never seen a NA only shout either but I would find that as discrimination as well. I have partied with all JP parties and found them to be as fun as all English speaking parties. While we don't need segregated servers, I think it would help with the language barrier issues and with lazy people not wishing to use auto translate. In a grinding party, a DD body is a DD body and that is all that matters to me. Having the CON speak the majority language fan be helpful.

Right but the title of this thread is JP ONLY. But you make good points but please everyone has A holes everywhere thats why we have a blacklist. That is a different matter altogether.

I am talking about declining a party or not inviting a person because of what you speak.

And you don't have to break anything to me i have seen people kick out A holes in parties. But most just was not doing the job right or was AFk allday not because of what they speak.

Everyone has a right to their own point of view. Sadly people posting their views here has brought on some hate bashing. I am closing this thread to stop that. My goal of the thread was to gain some insight regarding the jp only shouts and I feel I have gained that. I now see it as mainly a language barrier that people do not wisfj to deal with. Thank you everyone for posting your thoughts on the matter. actually I dunno how to close the thread lol. Can't find the setting. Using my cellphone to type these out.

Honestly, I'm all for segregated servers. Even if everyone I speak to won't necessarily want to play with me for various reasons, at the very least not being able to properly communicate with me in my native language won't be one one of them.
It would certainly be nice to eliminate a big reason right from the start.

And yes, JP ONLY pisses me off... I'll be very glad if this crap never happens again. Way back when in FFXI it irked me to the point that while I was leveling BRD and RDM I was very "NA/JP ONRY". I started parties and I would do the exact same things they did to us. Either deny them the party invite if they weren't on a job I needed and if they were, their spot was only guaranteed until an English speaking replacement showed up. Now, am I proud that I did this? Yeah... I actually am though I know I shouldn't be. But as the saying goes, do onto others... and hey, I had nothing to lose because it was already being done to me.

Again reading the thread would help you realize im not demanding anything. I said SE idea of Single speaking servers is not bad. Why? Because i hate that half the server does not invite NA. I never made a thread or anything on this topic i just posted in here and everyone went crazy.

I do not like that people are ok with some groups not wanting to party with you because of what you speak. I am sorry but i do not ike it.

In my eyes, wanting to split up the servers because you want to block off an entire region simply because there are those who are too intimidated to speak English is just as bad.

But how is that bad? its not even the same. SE is making servers and i choose to go to it. You do not have to. I am not stopping people from playing but if i seek a party and the say no JP only they are. Its not the same. You can stay in the server but i can go to the english one.

this again comes to choice and you people not wanting others to have a choice. That is bad and the only thing bad here

You already have the choice of you to play with. Complaints such as this about "oh, some of them don't want to play with me because they can't speak English" have forced SE's hand into considering the separation of regions. Again, I don't see why you need to separate the regions to create an English speaking community, when the English speaking community you want already exists.

It's not about being able to speak/write Japanese or not for the JP ONRY, it's because of some of the bad manners NA players have imo.

I've seen NA players in FFXI who just leave PT right after they level since they don't care about rest of the PT, people go way too much AFK as for if JP party they will tell you ahead of time they may go AFK a lot since blah blah... there are a lot more examples I can bring in but I don't want to start anything... I already talked about this one in another post with more details and response I got on that thread wasn't that good either so I'll keep quiet...

This is one reason they are considering language specific servers for these type of players, most of the time it has nothing to do with being able to communicate, it's more about manners.

Not saying it's a bad thing but it's how different economy plays differently, NA players think it's OK to do what they do while JP's don't and while JP's put JP ONRY, NA players really hate seeing that.

Hey my linkshell in FFXI had both JP and NA players and we were doing well overall, so if you find the right players you should be fine. For those saying JP ONRY just ignore them and move on.

I chose not to bring manners into this simply because they want to discuss the topic of language, but... ya...
