If the rules were set a certain way that was unchangeable and infallible, we'd still be playing 1.0. That's not how a game with content patches or hot fixes work, because the dev's can make mistakes or realize that maybe the community isn't super keen on an idea they put forth. See the dev's response with the Moonfire Faire event.
Also that's a pretty big assumption on both the player base and the dev team, for all you know something like that could get a bell curve where 66% was enough incentive to do the event.
It's probably just publicity. I mean all things considered, the FFXI event had more thought put into it with call backs and small snippets to the various stories and FATEs. Compare that to this event where outside of the first quest there's hardly anything to do with Yokai Watch, so in that aspect it failed.
It doesn't really matter how the even would have been nerfed as long as the planned nerf was announced before the start of it. Increasing its duration so that more players have a chance to waste endless hours is fine. Lowering the value of players' effort is not in this case.
Certain things have to be patched like the relic quest etc. That's fine because the number of players doing the previous stages is decreasing. The same is true for birds/ponies - the more players have them, the more difficult it is to farm them. Fates can be farmed single player so you don't really need anyone else. Relics also aren't just a vanity piece and have certain level of utility. Were they not nerfed players would be less likely to do them and that would create an issue - If the player knows that they can't get any use of it they are more likely to skip the relic entirely and as such not waste their time were they are expected to waste their time.
I have seen the response to the Moonfire Faire event. Too many players wanted to get it done asap and it caused issues which motivated few individuals to troll as their response. That was unfortunate, but easily dealt with by waiting few days before doing the event. Personally I haven't got to it yet as Yokai Watch is eating all my willpower to do fates atm, but I don't think the issue is that bad at this point of time and will only get better near the end.
It was 30% for me (222 medals in 746 fates which is 29.7%). Sometimes I would go 20+ fates without anything, other times I would get 2-3 in a row. One time I got 5 in a row, I thought I was a god! Then I had nothing for ages :P
Other people posting seem to suggest that over the 222 medals it averages 30%, but as as low as 25% if you're unlucky, 35% if you're really lucky.
this event is awful. the weapons are uninspired, and have no flash. the recycled atma grind for this lame advertising tie-in is ridiculous and beyond time consuming. shame on your square get your **** together already. why don't you do something useful and make it so it's actually possible to get into crystal tower.
Bumping this thread again, this event continues to be a pain on my alt with my work/sleep schedule :\ I'm also pretty annoyed that if you're under like, 45 or so this event is made all the more annoying due to the popularity of beast-tribe orientated zones such as Outer and Western La Noscae.
I think the real reason the drop rate is what it is and the event is stretched out over however many months is to make starter and ARR areas look populated and alive for that amount of time, therefore attracting players on their trial to pay to continue their adventuring. While the vets are fate grinding in used to be dead areas, SE is getting new subscriptions.
Yeah I'm aware, the problem is you can't really join FATE parties in those beast tribe zones if you're ~45 as no one wants a tag along who can't help do half of the FATEs in the area. Plus, due to the popularity of those Beast tribe zones, the lower leveled areas end up much more vacant and you're left grinding FATEs by yourself.
Oh yeah that's definitely one of the major theories to the bad design (imho) of this event. That and the friend Yoshi-P has in Level 5 wanted it to be a real "challenge" to get it, and challenge translates to tedious and boring grinding.
Eh, I don't bother with FATE parties anyway.
A very awful grind for a limited time content... Just for glamour and achievement. COme on, entertain me, don't give me ATMA back in the face just for something is a sidequest..
Only reason why i hate this event is cause they connected it with fates. I really hate fates seems like fates are connected to anything that has to do with grinding in this game.. Would of been cool if there was other ways to get the LM instead of just doing bloody fates.
I finished everything in the event, but I still feel like it was keyed a little bit too slow. Getting the 30 medal weapons wasn't at all difficult, but was a real chore. There were times when I would go 10 to 12 FATEs in a row with no medal drop.
It also felt like a bit of a letdown for the 2nd mount to be pretty much the same as the 1st mount. Especially when there was that concept art of the lion mount with the yokai face.
Still working slowly towards the last few weapons. When it was announced that fates were involved I didn't mind so much as I didn't run dungeons often. I did not foresee the weapon drops having an element of rng however which has made it extremely tiring. Yes, this has brought some life to lower level areas. This is a double edged sword however as new characters are competing with chocobo speed enhanced one shotting blade wizards that leave them getting little to nothing from a fate, especially when multiple high level characters are in the area doing the yokai grind. I hope at some point minions & mounts become account wide, because I am not doing this again on a second character.
That's another issue that I don't think folks get, like while this does bring "life" too lower level zones, it's just seeing other players. No real interaction and if you needed to grind those last few FATEs for your level, well you're competing with much more faster and more well equipped players for that FATE credit. It's not even like the Moonfire Faire fates where you balance it by having everyone on a mount that does the same damage and all. Plus.. I mean it doesn't really help some of the other parts of the game like dungeons feel more "alive", especially not when low level DPS are still waiting however as long for the queue.
I seriously with that something be done in this last month to help ease the annoyance of this event. Like there's so much stuff they could do and like zero response basically :\ Good luck in those last few weapons.
