That was the one I wanted too! I strayed away from the dark skin I had before HW before Au Ra has literaly NO hairstyles that suited (the long dreads have an AWFUL texture). This would have been what I needed!

After taking the time to examine each hairstyle before "voting", my votes went to the pompadour & the "sausage braid" because both entries presented unique & interesting style choices. Other entries just didn't sit right with me for one reason or the other.
That being said, I'm pulling my broom out & calling shenanigans on this whole fiasco - not to take away from those people that eventually "won", but this became a repeat of the 1876/1888/2000 American Presidential elections all over again in comparison...
To the actual Square Enix employees that bother reading this thread: in the future, effort needs to be put forth into future "voting" events that relies on a secured, one-time only polling system rather than forum-likes.
There are sites out there that have accomplished such a system for things like this: FFN for example offers content creators the ability to create polls on their author-pages allowing other users to submit opinions via a system that uses either radial buttons or check-boxes that can be set-up to either determine a single-choice option or multiple-choice (limit determined at author's discretion). Additionally, the system even allows for the author to determine if it's an open or closed voting (closed voting requires a user account & similarly is a one-time vote method) as well as the option for it to be a blind poll (results not visible until the voting period is over). (This is ignoring online survey sites like e-Rewards that only provide links to survey opportunites to third-party research firms rather than conducting the research themselves)
You're right, it's mind blowing how different they are

I changed my vote from Quistis hair to the winning one, because it had nowhere near the amount of votes required to win. Just goes to show how open vote systems influence the result in comparison to hidden voting.
Personally I'm kind of glad the side pony won instead of the braided pony. It's cute but not over the top, and most importantly it goes with all kinds of hats. Since we were voting for an in-game hairstyle as well as creativity, the practical side should be considered. When using wizard/bard hats, the side pony will most likely show, whereas the massive back pony and braid would probably not be visible the same way as the female roegadyn pony tail is not. Circlets show better on the side pony style. The highlight placement is also quite nice on the winning style but the braided style never had them showing.
Some people seem to imply the side pony lacked creativity but the braided pony had it. After looking at the selection of hairstyles for all races, I disagree. The only side pony tail option we currently have is not even a pony tail but a bun, and it's up high unlike the contest winner. Yet there are 3 different high pony tails available (4 if you count the midlander variations as separate), at least one for each race. Two of them even have braids.

I'm quite happy we got something unique in the end. And don't you dare bring up Lightning hair, I'm still sore about it after seeing pics of it on Roe ladies. Not everyone can use it so it doesn't really count when comparing hairstyles entries to existing ones.
Anyway, grats to the winners!
In your world a multi-page TOS document is the same general idea as a few lines of contest instructions?
Really?
Again, it was a few lines of instructions. You're trying to pretend like it was some wall-of-text worthy of "TLDR" responses. And do you know what an intelligent person would consider the "good part"? It would be the part that instructs them on how to actually help pick a winning hairstyle.
This is you not taking responsibility for making assumptions about a process you ultimately didn't understand. That's on you.
Because all the "SE screwed us" comments aren't posts "aimed to create a negative impact on the community or its members"? Don't be a hypocrite.
Or, I had thousands of workers that were incapable of following simple instructions because they either a) didn't bother reading them at all, b) didn't bother reading them completely/carefully, or c) having something in common with a sack of hammers. Can't fault the instructions in those cases.
I'm happy with the male hairstyle that won, as there isn't much for guys in that range of length (short, but not very short) and hair texture. Wavy hair is always welcome for me.
I wish the messy bob (fem runner up #2) won for girls though. I personally find the side tail to be boring, but then again, I have seen quite a few ask for a side tail to be available for all, since the one that's there is specific to a race or two if I recall?
buddy i was rooting for you as well I got my bf all hyped cause he wanted that hairstyle and i swear you were winning now we're both sad I draw some hairstyle like that and i was happy knowing that someone with the same hairstyle got the place and even more happy it was winning but still congrats T-T
If you actually read my posts earlier, you can read that I do admit the fact that I did not read through the instructions completely every single day it was out.
And my point was, not everyone is going to read through every single little thing they read when they already have the general idea on what its about, i think something as important as "your last vote is the only one that counts" should be somewhere big and obvious.
Im using Terms of Service as an example, nobody reads them every single time they come across them carefully, and completely. Its a instructions on how to vote, that was a problem enough to where they had to edit the post because A LOT of people weren't understanding the oh so clear instructions. Even square was like "Hey our post is unclear and people are voting incorrectly, lets change it and try and make it more clear." Nobody's perfect, you're asking for everyone to perfectly read everything and understand it exactly the way you do, that's not going to happen. That's why instructions have to be presented in a way that they can't be missed.
meh gratz, not too fond of the side pony though
It may have a few slight differences (literally only the extra side braid and ponytail volume), but my post was in response to the people here claiming this entry was so unique and original, which it clearly is not.
If you want that style so badly, you can always use a Fantasia and go Midlander.
But come on..now all those who totes love Serah can play their waifu!!! >.> dream cam tru tbh
LOL for real though, I don't care for it either...but they did say they may add the runner ups into the game, honestly they should since the voting system was so warped.

Edit: Psst. This is just for the funny. Don't take it seriously. :>
As soon as I read the "only your last like counts" I knew people would mess it up and tried to warn them but I didn't think that it would be 50%...
To add to this convo:

Now mind you its not exactly the same, and TBH the hair I wanted to win for men was the Samurai Rourouni Kenshin hair, but it just annoys the blah outta me that everyone is saying how the runner up hair is SO original when in reality its just the hair Luna will be using in ff15 >.>
Disappointed. The voting counting method was stupid. Guess I'll be keeping my current hair for awhile after all. -_-
Then again, this post kinda points out as to why there was some confusion.
Yay another male hairstyle that looks god awful on Roes. Grats to you and cat boys everywhere.
I think this is really the only part that is confusing but I think it demonstrates a failure of reading comprehension. I can see why it might be confusing but the Scarf is only for that one bullet point. As the rest was later added, the original part of "* “Likes!” will only be counted for the last entry you vote on." seemed fairly standalone to me and was in reference to "How to Vote" and not about the sweepstakes additional information/clarification.
Anyways, it doesn't really matter what we say here. It was confusing for lots of people, regardless if it was "clear" or not, people messed it up and got it wrong. Not just one, many. It was a mess on both sides. But I've got a headache now and my mood is pretty much shot, have a good day people.
The only thing that's funny is the assumption that everything in red was added on the date you want me to focus on. It wasn't. It was up there prior to that date, just some of the wording was changed later to make things even clearer for those who were still (somehow) struggling to understand the rules.
MEANWHILE... back on September 1st when the voting first went live:

Oh look.. people (like myself) relaying information that was already available and, honestly, already quite clear. As I said, it was there from the start - we didn't just pull those details out of thin air, after all.
*woosh*
Woah, chill. That was the joke.
Edit: Anyway, if you want to continue negatively implicating people who got confused, be my guest. Harassment isn't justified. However, I don't blame anyone for not noticing it, nor am I blaming SE for the confusion (that small amount of text was sufficient). Warning people through the forums only has a small impact as not a lot of the playerbase actually browse the forums. Given that, some players probably voted what they liked and left it at that without noticing the updated rules. Anyway, I'll just leave it at that.
I didn't even vote for the Pompadour... but I think it deserve's to be implemented regardless of its vote status. All Hail the Pompadour. I want to be a Japanese Anime Villain/Jerk with a heart of gold.
Congrats to the winners.
.... won't stop me from wishing female #18 had won. @_@ It was actually different from the stuff we have on offer. The side ponytail is gonna translate weird in game, too, because any time there is hair that's supposed to be resting on a shoulder, it ends up being stiff as a board and hovering a few inches above the shoulder. Looks so strange. What's more, the flower will probably not be dyeable, so it's going to be really limiting in terms of color combination. Blaaah.
For the record, I was hugely disappointed in the selection of finalists male hairstyles, with many of them looking like they could be contenders in the female category.
In the end we were stuck voting on the favorites of the individual or team that selected these finalists, and not our personal preferences. That's like asking someone to come up with a short list of several movies that they love, and then picking one of the movies from their list that you wouldn't abhor seeing. Yay? Better hope they're not a huge fan of (insert your least favorite genre here). Clearly the selection committee has wildly different tastes than me (and going by the comments in several threads, many others) when it comes to hair style preferences.
The problem is not with the hairstyles. Like art, they're subjective, and a style I hate someone else may love. That doesn't make it universally good or bad - there's always going to be a mix of opinions. And artists learn to develop a thick skin over that quickly (or don't make it very far as artists).
The problem is with how the finalists were chosen. I'm fine with the developers eliminating entries that are technically not feasible, or didn't follow the rules of the competition. I'm not fine with some mystery person(s) picking their favorite batch of hairstyles (which, again, like art is subjective!) and then asking the community to vote on a winner *from that batch* while pretending like this was a community choice.
All the entries which passed a sanity check should have been posted as finalists, and then the community allowed to vote, resulting in half of the most liked styles passing on to the next round. And then the community votes on those, and the top 50% passes on to the next round, etc, etc until a single style remains.
Instead, right now many feel like they're had to pick the hairstyle they hate the least. And the bulk of the votes will go to a handful of hairstyles because people don't see the point in using their one vote on (example) a style that has 200 votes when there were several sitting near 2000. The understandable thinking there is "I want to vote for style H, but style X, Y, and Z are the only ones that have a chance of winning so I better pick my favorite out of those three..". Thus, those few styles that broke into the lead early (for whatever reason) were bound to continue gaining more and more momentum for that reason alone.
All around it was just a stupid way to handle the competition.
Man I go to sleep/pass out from exhaustion for TEN HOURS and...wait, that's a long time huh. Anyway
This is exactly it. It's extremely rude. Regardless of how the contest was handled (which is to say, still poorly), the fact of the matter is other people still voted for those styles.
You say it's not their fault, but you are essentially "blaming" them for winning via a flawed system. The only time this should happen is if there were clear ways to cheat (for example, voting without an account which would allow multiple votes from the same person. Since the forums only allow one account/service account, I sincerely doubt the winners have 2000 sock puppet accounts to inflate their own winnings here...). Don't like the hairstyles? Fine. I'm also probably not going to use them.
So yes you and everyone else acting like you are being extremely rude. Please stop.
I don't think it'll be that big of an issue. While i was an au ra, i used hair number 2 (or maybe 3, it was the new pigtails one they got), and sometimes when i'd jump around the left pony would go around my shoulder and get stuck on my front, it never clipped with anything and it wasn't static either.
As for the flower. They said they're going to take creative liberties where they see fit. The flower may not even make it in game.
Unfortunately, I feel like the flower is responsible for a large portion of the votes it received. Maybe it's just me, but the winning hairstyle would feel extremely plain without it. On the other hand, if they do include the accessory, then I still wouldn't like it very much because I wouldn't be able to color it (much like that long hair style for females that has a white hairband stuck to it). I didn't vote for this hairstyle, but I sincerely hope that the creative minds at SE can make it look good in-game.
Like I said, that's my stance.. I'm not going to congratulate someone whom I think didn't deserve to win due to faulty voting. Couldn't care less how they feel about it either. If you don't like my "rudeness" then feel free to ignore me, I'm not obligated to congratulate anyone though so telling me to stop is ridiculous.
I'm going to be honest and say that i don't think people voted for the flower.
I voted for it because it was simple, nice looking, and it doesn't resemble something we already have.
In fact, i don't think i've seen anyone say anything akin to "Oh my goodness that flower is the greatest thing since sliced bread"
