Airship rank at 24 at the moment.
Just discovered Sector 08, no 2nd airship yet.
Dispatched it to a Sector 08 only trip, hopefully this will unlock the 2nd airship.
I'll post here if it does (or doesn't, god forbid that).

Is it confirmed that only Sector 08 unlocks the second airship, or can anything over Sector 08 (such as Sector 11...) unlock it?
Our Airship hit Rank 27 yesterday and we have had no luck with discovering Sector 08. We sent it out to Sector 05 and Sector 07 yesterday, and even with an S rating we had no luck finding the Sector 08. We sent it out on 05,06,07 today, but if it doesn't find it now we may end up with the ability to send it to Sector 11 before ever finding Sector 08.
Airships back from SC07+ SC08. Still no SC09 or SC10 discovered. Both sectors gave a message of ''Airship condition found insufficient for further exploration''. At this point I have no clue what limits it. Was rank 28 for this trip. 3/4 Enterprise with Invincible Aftcastle. Nearly 50 range unused, so it seems that theory of mine is off.
Turbulent in both sectors, but we dont have any idea yet on what causes that. (random or not?)
Are your parts properly repaired after a while? If they're in the red they probably don't contribute any stat.
Ours had 2 invincible, 1 bronco and 1 enterprise part when we discovered all of sector 8-9-10-11 - now I've geared it up with a second enterprise part and I'm making more.
For those looking for the magnanimous mogcrowns, you can also find them in Sector 10.

I'd be willing to bet it is just bad luck at this point. Ever had one of those days where you fail a dozen 45% chance melds in a row? This might be like that except the airship version :(
It'd be really nice to figure out it is something more than just luck. That being said, good luck!
Everyone so far has reported getting it at sector 08, but I'm not sure anyone has tried visiting 11 before visiting 8!
Someone had the interesting theory that it was unlocked from visiting all of the bronze colored sectors on the map, of which 8 is the highest one. I'm trying to test that by holding off on visiting sector 3 with my experimental airship. If its true, it will give us a good idea when we can expect to unlock the 3rd and 4th airships ;)
So we unlocked sector 11 earlier, but haven't unlocked 7/8/9/10 yet. What's stopping us from going into sector 11 yet though? Purely a rank thing?
Someone claimed to have gotten the Far Easter Coin (needed for the Stuffed carbuncle) from sector 4:

(see comment)
I can't confirm or deny but we've been sending our airship there every reset and will report back here if we get a proof.
Per the OP, no one has found sector 12 or higher?
When you look at the map you see every sector is linked to some isle on the map.
There are undiscovered isles without sectors near 3,4,9 and 11... maybe start searching there.
HMS Moneysink failed to find Sector 7 again (after 4 Trips to 5 with different setups) with full invincible parts and lvl18, other discovered this sector with lesser grade ships and lower level.
Now trying my old "hulk" build with low range/speed and high retrieval/favor/surveillance... if this fails i will try tomorrow a "known" route from the spreadsheets which found this sector.
Following up, a solo voyage to Sector 7 discovered 8 for us when previous combos like 5-6-7 and and 6-7-5 didn't. Also the log said sector 10, but then the map and chat message was 08.
Sending a solo voyage to 08 now, but we've already visited every other 1* so it won't prove or disprove the visit all 1*s to unlock thought.
My FC airship returned from a solo trip to sector 08 which was just unlocked yesterday.
I purposefully put 2 tiny bronco parts for a bit more speed and to check if 2nd airship would be unlocked even with lower rank parts. (Two tiny bronco, 1 invincible, 1 enterprise)
It did, we unlocked our 2nd airship. =D
At least not that has been reported here! Always fun when a new mystery comes up :D We sent our flagship out to 9, 10, and 11 which seem plausible since they are on the northern edge of the explored region. But I'm also wondering if 8 and 4 might also be worth checking.
That's a great catch! It also looks like there is a map "anomaly" northwest of sector 3! I'll reduce the opacity on the background map to help with the speculation :D
Got Synthetic fiber and Birch branch from 11 sector. (All parts Invincible, Forecastle Invincible II - 11-9-8)
Still no sign of 10th sector. I'll try 7th sector next time.
I'll add log in a few hours.
So, I've realized that I made a small mistake in the spreadsheet. I listed a column for "HQ?" for each item, but when I did, I hadn't realized that SE re-used the term to mean two different things. When you get an item, sometimes it says "High quality _____ discovered." Other times, it's just "_____ discovered." I thought that it was linked to the HQ/NQ status of the item itself, but that appears not to be the case. It turns out that when it says "High Quality," the item can be NQ. And, when it doesn't, the item can be HQ. The two terms seem to be unrelated?
I'm thinking now that the reported status is like, "is this a rare item?" Toy Box Schema are always "High Quality" even though they are always NQ items (there's no HQ version). I imagine the same is true for Iron Giant Cores and other such rare housing/minion items.
Some people did try to report both in the spreadsheet, but when I went through and cleared it up to make all the item names consistent, this information was lost. Really, I should have had two columns for the HQ status - one for the reported status, one for the item's status.
Going forward, how should we handle this? Should we continue ignoring the HQ/NQ status of the item and only track the "High Quality" keyword in the reports, or should we enter a new column to track both and just deal with the fact that the older log entries lack this data?
Also, I've sorted the logs by ship in the Master Voyage Log. It's interesting to follow a ship's progress and see how different sectors compare. I think the next change to the sheet that I'll do is create a new tab that compares the affects of ship stats on voyages to a given sector. Stuff that looks at, like, favor ratings and compares them to weather to see if there's a correlation. I'm just not sure yet how to set up that data...
Regarding the map, I expect that there will be one more sector in the Sea of Clouds after SC11 - the island group in the upper left. I expect that, after that sector, we're going to find sectors in the Churning Mists next. There are five island groups with a different color background on the map (CM01-CM05?), plus the weird swirl thing (CM06? Something else?). Then, I expect the last two island groups in the upper right will be sectors in Azys Lla (AL01-AL02?). I wonder what happens after we fill out the map? Will they add on a new map for sectors released later, or will there not be more sectors later?
If I'm right about the number of sectors remaining, that's 20 total. Following the required rank progression pattern (and the star rating progression pattern and CB cost progression pattern), these would have the following requirements:
- SC12: 34 (4*, 4 CBs)
- CM01: 37 (4*, 4 CBs)
- CM02: 40 (4*, 5 CBs)
- CM03: 44 (5*, 5 CBs)
- CM04: 47 (5*, 5 CBs)
- CM05: 50 (5*, 6 CBs)
- Swirl: 54 (6*, 6 CBs)
- AL01: 57 (6*, 6 CBs)
- AL02: 60 (6*, 7 CBs)
This seems plausible because 60 is a nice, round number. However, at 60, you couldn't even have a fully Odyssey. The best you could do is 3x Odyssey and 1x Invincible, or 1x Tatanora, 2x Odyssey, and 1x Bronco. Or, for the most balanced ship you could do, 3x Invincible II, 1x Odyssey.
If we're right about the proximity thing, it looks like sector SC12 is unlocked from SC11. I kinda think that CM01 would be unlocked from SC09, but I could be wrong. Plenty of people have gone to 09 and not unlocked it, but it looks like the clostest island to the closest island in the next set of islands.
Of course, I could totally be wrong. I mean, sector SC09 isn't at a visible island, though all the rest are. Who knows? Maybe there are more islands hidden in the mists?
I had noticed that same thing, in this case "high-quality" means rare, not HQ. In the HQ? column I've been putting rarity and when an item is actually HQ i've been indicating it thus in the item column by putting something like "Vivianite HQ". I think the more important data is rarity (which actually has three levels, none, high-quality, and several high-quality), so my inclination is to keep that column and perhaps add that extra level.
I noticed for many of the other reports they seem to be reporting rarity as well, at least the items that are "rare" have that indication consistently. I have this distinction in the original post so I believe a good many people have been entering it that way. The nice thing is, it is very consistent which items are rare, so we don't have to consider the previous data unusable on that type of analysis. For example, If we have to we can find all the Vivianite and make sure it is indicated as "rare."
I'll copy/paste an excerpt from the OP in case it helps:
High-quality deep green crystals discovered. Commencing extraction.
Some items appear to be more rare than others. This line tells you whether that is the case. The chances may be influenced by a specific stat (surveillance, favor). Possible conditions:
_______________ discovered.
High-quality _____________ discovered.
Several high-quality _____________ discovered.
As for the ship roster, I can't wait to see what you come up with! \o/
Added log to Spreadsheet
Birch branch is actually "High-quality item"

And Quickarm materia III from sector 9
The sea of clouds island group in the upper left is Sector 13, btw. I can take a screenshot when I get home.
I'm guessing that sector 12 is the penciled in island group on the left of the map.
OMG, I totally missed the penciled-in island xD So, I take it SC13 unlocked from SC11?
EDIT: Also, I decided to update the "HQ?" columns to instead say "Rare?" and have the options: No, Yes, and Several. I know the previously entered logs will skew the data some, but... it should be fine.
Well lvl 60 for last isle don't mean this is the max level, it only mean it is the minimum to visit the sector... it feels wrong to not fully build a ship :/
Funny fact, the Map in liveletter http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/a...7&d=1429781056 was only a part of the current map missing the top 20%.
Woohoo! Yes I think it will be fine too \o/
I was thinking of running some analyses and possibly entering some script to do so, is that possible? Is there a way for me to view the scripts you've written? (if that is ok with you!)
Looks like the scripting language is Apps Script which looks an awful lot like javascript. You mentioned using something more similar to excel so I wondered if you were using a different method.
Any information on when you unlock the level 3 FC buffs?
If you want to play around, that's totally fine! I'll need a google account name though so I can add permissions for you. Can you just open the chat window next time you're in the sheet and say it's you? I usually have the sheet open somewhere, so I should get it. Click the speech bubble icon in the upper right to the left of the "comments" button. Or just make a comment while signed in - that should also get me your account name.
I just use the built-in formula functionality, which is different from the scripting you mentioned. I know I can do more if I attached scripts, but I haven't taken the time to learn how yet. And I really love functional programming (I work primarily with a proprietary functional language at my job). The formula language is a really simple functional language - you enter = in a cell to start, and put in a function call, such as "=sum(A3:A8)" or "=if($A3="","",transpose(SORT(unique(transpose({iferror(transpose(filter('Master Voyage Log'!$N$3:$N,'Master Voyage Log'!$R$3:$R=$A3)),),iferror(transpose(filter('Master Voyage Log'!$N$3:$N,'Master Voyage Log'!$W$3:$W=$A3)),),iferror(transpose(filter('Master Voyage Log'!$Z$3:$Z,'Master Voyage Log'!$AD$3:$AD=$A3)),),iferror(transpose(filter('Master Voyage Log'!$Z$3:$Z,'Master Voyage Log'!$AI$3:$AI=$A3)),),iferror(transpose(filter('Master Voyage Log'!$AL$3:$AL,'Master Voyage Log'!$AP$3:$AP=$A3)),),iferror(transpose(filter('Master Voyage Log'!$AL$3:$AL,'Master Voyage Log'!$AU$3:$AU=$A3)),),iferror(transpose(filter('Master Voyage Log'!$AX$3:$AX,'Master Voyage Log'!$BB$3:$BB=$A3)),),iferror(transpose(filter('Master Voyage Log'!$AX$3:$AX,'Master Voyage Log'!$BG$3:$BG=$A3)),)})),1,TRUE)))" (the formula that displays the list of sectors an item is found in on the items tab).
To reference a cell, enter the cell's coords (like A3 or BH12). To reference a range, use a : between two cells. To have a range go to the end, leave off the row/column as appropriate in the end cell (like A3:A will mean "all of column A starting with row 3 and going down"). When you drag a formula over to other cells, it'll add/subtact one to the row or column as appropriate. To make this not happen, use $ before the letter or number. So, if you do A$3 and drag it to the down, it'll be A$3 everywhere, but if you drag it right, the cells to the right will be B$3 and then C$3, etc. To reference another sheet, put the sheet's name in ''s followed by a ! and then the cell coords on that sheet, like 'Master Voyage Log'!$A$3:$A.
The dynamic highlighting is done via the "Conditional Formatting" feature, where you can set the formatting to trigger based on a function. The function needs to evaluate to TRUE or FALSE, and if it's TRUE, the cell is highlighted as desired, and if it's FALSE, it isn't. But, Conditional Formatting formulas cannot reference other sheets, unfortunately. That's why I have hidden columns on tabs sometimes with data from other sheets, so I can highlight based on it.
Useful formulas to know:(If the result of a function is an array, it will expand to nearby cells (unless array_constrain() is used to constrain it). This can be great, but I find google sheets gets really upset when the array tries to expand past the end of the edge of the sheet. It is supposed to automatically adds rows/columns as needed, but I find it tends to crash the sheet pretty badly instead. array_constrain() is your friend.)
- if(condition, result if true, result if false) - Basic conditional.
- iferror(function to execute, result if an error is returned) - Does what it says.
- filter(range to filter, filter condition 1, filter condition 2, etc) - Used to filter a range of cells based on any number of conditions. You can only filter either horizontally or vertically, and the result is a list of rows/columns that match all of the conditions you specified. If nothing is found, an error is returned, so always wrap these in "iferror" functions. You can also use "vlookup()" for this, but I find "index(filter())" is generally easier to use and serves the same purpose.
- index(range/array, row# or "" to get whole column, column# or "" to get whole row) - Extract a specified cell/row/column from a range.
- array_constrain( range/array, X limit, Y limit ) - Used to prevent a dynamically generated array from expanding more than there's room for it to expand. This removes all rows and columns past the specified limit. I use this, for instance, in the item lists on the sector tab so if paste in a million typoed items it won't try to expand the array and overwrite the stuff after it.
- column(cell reference), row(cell reference) - Returns the column or row number of the specified cell. For column, it does return the column number, not letter. To get it back to a letter, you have to add it to code("A")-1 and then use char() to turn it back to a letter. This only works on columns 1-26, after that, it gets more complicated since column 27 is AA and so on.
- code(letter/symbol) - Get ASCII value.
- char(ASCII value) - Convert an ASCII value back to a letter/symbol.
- value(number as text) - Cast a text string into a number.
- left(string, #chars), right(string, #chars), mid(string, start point, #chars) - Extract a substring starting from the left, right, or in the middle of a string. So, you do something like =value(right("SC05",2)) to get the number 5.
- arrayformula( function ) - This is an extremely useful and extremely finicky function. It takes in any function normally designed to work on a single cell, except you give range references instead of cell references and it performs the function on each item in the range individually, returning the results as a range. So, =or(arrayformula($B$3:$B=C3)) would return true if any of the items in the range matched the specified cell.
- concatenate(list of strings) and concat(string1, string2) - Concatenate strings together. Concatenate() takes in any number of strings, but it does not work in an arrayformula(). In an arrayformula(), you have to use concat() (or a nested series of concat()s) instead.
- min(range), max(range) - Get the lowest or highest value in a range.
- unique(range/array) strips out all duplicates from an array/range.
- sort(range/array, primary sort column, ascending?, optional secondary sort column, ascending?, etc) - Sorts a list of rows as specified.
- { item1, item2, item3 } - These create an array (aka Range) from a discrete list of items. When playing with this sort of thing, another good one to know is transpose(array/range), which transposes rows and columns of the range. Since the created arrays are horizontal, if you want to concatenate items extracted from columns together into a long list of items, you have to transpose your rows into columns first so they merge correctly. You can then transpose them back into rows.
And so on. There's a list you can get to from going "help -> function list" and when you start typing in a function, it should show you the documentation for that function automatically. You can use SQL queries, but I have never succeeded in getting them to work, they don't seem to play well with the two-line headers I'm fond of, and though they can be powerful, I can do plenty of relational database functionality with just creative applications of filter(), transpose(), arrayformula(), and {}. It's only really a problem on my desynth database because Google Sheets doesn't really approve of my convoluted and numerous references to my 3,000 row, 30 column database (it takes literal minutes to fully update that sheet whenever I change anything).
Wooo thanks for the tutorial! That is really appreciated. I can't wait to start XD
Finally discovered SC09 from visiting SC08. Still no luck with SC10 tho. Sending it out to 7-8-9-11 now. (11 before 10 xD)
I assembled a google doc spreadsheet to track my FC's materials as we assembled our airships. I've tossed a copy of it out here for anyone who wants it for their own tracking. The last two ships I don't have access to yet in our FC but I'll update the sheet as I do!
Airship Build Spreadsheet
I have made a similar Spreadsheet for my FC :D
Thanks for sharing your spreadsheets, you two! I think I like the one with the SFW title better <_< I'll check the other one when I'm somewhere I can read it!
Bonzai and I are trying to run some formulas on the data to see how stats influence things. Let's see what we find out!
I SFW the title to my spreadsheet it was a copy of the private one my FC is using and I didn't see that I hadn't changed it!
Hey everyone,
I've been reading the guide and now everything seems more clear than ever. However, our FC has been having issues discovering Sector 05. Does anyone else have the same problem?
Our airship is Rank 19, it has 3 Invincible parts and 1 Enterprise part. For the past two days, we've sent her ONLY to Sector 02 in hopes that she unlocks Sector 05, but no luck.
The voyage log has mentioned violent turbulence though... are we just unlucky?
Just returned from her fourth voyage around sectors 5,6,7,8. It's like sector 09 doesn't exist, lol.
She has Enterprise Forecastle and Enterprise Hull. Tried different combinations like 5->6->8->7 and 5->7->8->6, with no luck discovering sector 09.
But we discovered island 10 from our first trip to 7->8, and it was even without the Enterprise Forecastle.
Now she's rank 27, and it looks like this:
http://imgur.com/UolJC9N
All of the previous sectors were unlocked within one or two trips around their vicinity.
So I would say that RNG factor here is rather big, maybe it even grows with island ranks.
Found sector 15, there's gold in dem dere islands!
http://imgur.com/J2Rh9cH
Sending airship to sector 14, will be back Thursday. If it's like sector 08 I imagine we'll have our 3rd airship unlocked when it gets back.
That is baffling! xD Even if stats are important, you definitely have your bases covered with those parts... And we've only had reports that it unlocks from sector 02. So it's hard for me to imagine another reason besides bad luck. Still, keep us updated!
Sector 12 located
This may have been mentioned elsewhere, but it seems as though sector 12 is unlocked from sector 10! The SS Rubber Ducky just returned after her discovery:
http://i.imgur.com/kY6IBPO.png
http://i.imgur.com/Jo67Tpg.png
I'm also dying to know which sectors 13 and 14 are unlocked from :D If you do unlock it from visiting 14 it will help us know whether you have to visit all the sectors in the silver group or just the final one \o/
And I didn't scroll down far enough in my sector list it seems xD I can take another look when the 2nd airship returns later tonight
I'm really starting to believe the RNG is big too. D: I wish I could be more helpful!
More about sector 12
I should add that there was no marking on the map in the same area as sector 12. On the other hand, the sectors do seem roughly evenly distributed on the map so far, so whenever there seems to be a "hole" that might be a good reason to look again at that area.
Heres what the map looked like before sector 12 was discovered:
http://i.imgur.com/MeiO7zH.png
Just opened 13th sector 8-9-11 All parts invincible, forecastle Invincible II.
Log didn't say anithing about opening new sector. But I had message in chat "Sector 13 has been discovered" http://i.imgur.com/ZfCXrz1.jpg
It seems you need 11th sector to discover 13th
