Fantasia or Not Help people choose!

Whew. Now that I'm off work, I'll edit this post with my responses. This was a lot to go through, but really fun.

In order of posting:

Silverhope: Au Ra. I love the look of your Au Ra. While you have a very nice highlander (I usually don't like them, but I do yours), your Au Ra has an air of fun about her.

Leep: Au Ra. Your Au Ra keeps all the badassery of your Elezen without sacrificing any of his suave charm.

Kukajoo: Au Ra. Your Elezen says "I'm gonna hang out over here" while your Au Ra has a much more commanding presence.

Hivernica: Hard choice. I'd say keep your Elezen. She looks like more of a calculating leader. Your Au Ra is lovely but seems to be more of a curious back-line sort.

Yamimarik: Hmm. I like both, but I think I like your hyur more.

Ashkendor: Swap. The Au Ra is baller.

Mimilu: Don't change. I really like that Roe. Not many can make those well.

Lillia: I'm a huge fan of potatoes and yours is super adorable. I'd say stay.

Elim: Tough. I don't normally like miqote but yours is nice. I really like your Au Ra, though.

EA9Sol: I like the colors of your cat, but I like the look of your Au Ra. Maybe try the sames scheme on a Xaela? Overall, I'd say change.

Zenaku: Change. You have a nice Elezen but that Au Ra just calls to me.

Indiction: Change. The Au Ra is like a more mature version of your catboy. I really like it.

HakuroDK: That's one of the most attractive male roes I've ever seen. He's got a bit of danger and sultriness to his look. Keep him. Your Au Ra looks a bit flat; like something's bothering him, but he doesn't know what.

jumanjilover89: Tough. Your cat looks wild and untamed. Your Au Ra looks creepy and devious. I like both, but it kind of just depends on what you're trying to project.

Zumi: Au Ra. I think she has more dimensions to her.

Slipikin: Au Ra. She looks like she means business.

Shyluv: Your Elezen. I like your Current better than the duskwight, but they are both very awesome. They seem serious and focused, while your Au Ra looks a bit aloof.

NintenPyjak64: Au Ra. That Au Ra scares the crap out of me... I like it.

Mahri: Au Ra. She looks like she'd be awesome to hang out with.

Onikimaru: This is hard... I really like how angry you catboy is. He's one of the better ones I've seen. I'd say stick with him.

Keydah: I really like your miqote (and I usually don't like catgirls). I'd say keep it or try to put the same black eyeline on the Au Ra. That facepaint really brings the whole character together.

AzureZenorag13: I like your miqote better, but I think it's just a color scheme thing because I really like your Au Ra's features. Try giving her your Miqote's coloring.

Skeith-Adeline: I like your current very much. I also like the white-haired Xaela. You're gonna have to make that call.

Cyrus-Wallace: Go Au Ra. She's got the same grace/command as your Highlander, but there seems to be a bit more oomph to her.

Raminax: I LOVE that Raen. I prefer the darker eyes. Your midlander is nice, but the Raen has both joy
+badassery.

Glaereth: Au Ra. I like your catboy, but the Au Ra has more of the menacing look your catboy is trying to do.

Mirakumi: Au Ra. She is AWESOME.

KaiKatzchen: Au Ra. I love her colors.

Alleyia: Au Ra!! The last one with the peachy hair is amazing.

NorthernLadMSP: Au Ra for sure. The light purple. She sticks out to me more than the others do, but it might be because I like her features the best.

Iromi: I don't normally like catgirls at all, but you have one of the best ones I've ever seen. I say stay. Your Au Ra is super lovely, too, though.

bizarrejelly5: Au Ra!! He looks less bored.

Noshpan: Keep your highlander, change your catboy to Au Ra. They both are awesome.

Tachyon: CATBOY!! KEEP IT!!! THAT CATBOY IS ONE OF THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN! HE'S LIKE CAPTAIN HARLOCK HOTNESS!

FlareR: Holy crap that Au Ra is bad ass. I like your potato, but the Au Ra wins this one.

DoctorSecksy: Fem Au Ra. She's in charge of everyone around her and she knows it.

Akira: Au Ra. I like her coloration. She's a bit more cuesty, but I think it works really well.

MaethusXion: Whoa. I like the Au Ra that's just a simple fantasia with your color scheme. It looks really freaking great with Xaela and that horn/face type.

Kaelah: Change to Au Ra! I really like her features and those colors look great with Raen horns.

Pomelo: Au Ra! I like your Roe, but I love the features/colors on the Raen. She's fun without being intimidating.

Fuma: Change to male Au Ra. Your current is scary, but he looks like the crazy kind of scary (like Sweettooh from Twisted Metal) Your Au Ra is scary, but it's the creepy cold-hard-killer kind of scary. So really, it just depends on what you're aiming for.

KaijinRhada: Change to Au Ra. Soft(left) nose and skin3. Your miqote is pretty unique, but I think horns bring a lot to your look.

zemogFC: Change to Au Ra. I really like her a lot, but probably because she's similar to mine. What lip/skin color is that? Your lips looks more red than mine.

While I've really enjoyed looking at the characters being posted here and in the "Show your Au Ra!" thread, I'm actually inclined to agree with these two posters. On the other hand, I think that most people posting have already made up their mind to change, they just want affirmation that their new characters look good, and there's nothing wrong with that, either.

I've loved seeing some of the awesome looking Roegs, Elezen, and Highlanders in this topic, though. Keep 'em coming, everyone!

Thanks everybody for your replies! I've been thinking on riding the Au Ra train but as the early access gets closer, I was thinking about their "original concept" which was given by Yoshi-p. Female Au Ras being a shy-type race, somewhat "weak" looking and giving the feeling that you need to protect them. It's the exact opposite of my character's concept: A strong woman or a "true warrior" as she calls herself (My character is actually pretty muscular, dat muscle slider to the max). Like Mimilu said, tough and battle-worn. With a strong attitude but full of pride. It's pretty much a female version of Vegeta. >_> I love Vegeta. Everybody should love him too.

However there's something mysterious about the new race and I want to see how they look in action. I think I'll give Au Ra a chance, I didn't use my Fantasia that SE gave me during the ARR launch and I'll have a second one with the HW release. I'll use it for 2 weeks. Let's see how this turns out. I'm really attached to my current character, since it's the one I keep using since launch (midlander in beta 3 but you might know why I changed to highlander at this point) Thanks for your time and effort, guys, I luv you <3

I can understand why this is a hard decision, both look pretty. I would suggest saving this character look in Benchmark and making an alt in Heavensward. Try to walk around with it, do a few levels.. maybe a dungeon and then decide.
I tried it a few times and I can say that many times character looks nice in creation but after playing with it for a while you won't like it.

I tried the face paint out on the Au Ra, but it just looked kinda weird to me. It makes her eyes look creepy instead of pretty. x: But thanks!

Mmmm in my personal opinion your miqo'te is super cute. You've made a nice design with the Au Ra but your miqo'te takes the cake!.

Thank you for your input guys. <3 I do love my Miqo'te too, but I find the Au Ra adorable also. It'll be a hard choice. I deffo won't be doing it without making an alt to test it first. :3 Have kitty saved too. More opinions welcome!

I'll do some more of the list from where I left off last time:

AzureZenorag13 - Stay. I think the facepaint in that colour suits your Miqo'te more. It might look better on the Au Ra if it were the same colour as the scales, I think the red on black face scales/limbal rings/missmatched eyes is a bit too much. I'd also be interested to see her without the limbal rings.

Skeith-Adeline - Change. I'm biased though, not a big fan of Highlanders. :3 It's a hard choice which Au Ra though! I love your 1st and 3rd Raen and your 1st Xaela. Maybe flip a few coins? xD

Cyrus-Wallace - Draw. This one is tough for me. I love your Highlander! But your Au Ra is also very nice. I think while badass, she also has a hint of softness in her that your Highlander doesn't. So I guess if you want to look both kick ass and gentle then go Au Ra? x3

Raminax - Change. YOUR RAEN! <3 /fangirls. He is amazing. About the eyes, I think the lighter shade is more striking, they stand out more.

Glaereth - Stay. I personally prefer your Miqo'te, he's very handsome! I find I often don't like male Miqo faces but yours is really nice.

Mirakumi - Change. I love your first Au Ra. Her eyes look gorgeous!

KaiKatzchen - Draw. I'm sorry! /grovel I cannot choose! lol They are both lovely. Your Miqo'te has always stood out to me as very unique, so it would be sad to lose her. Meanwhile your Au Ra is also lovely!

Alleyia - Change. I adore your last 2 Raen. (The pink themed one and the last one.) I think I prefer your last one, I love that hairstyle.

NorthernLadMSP - Change. I love your 3rd and 5th Au Ra. The 3rd looks very desert princess and the 5th looks like a mermaid!

Iromi - Change. They both look lovely! I love how you have essentially captured your Miqo'te as an Au Ra. I like the Au Ra more just because her horns and scales make her more striking I suppose.

bizarrejelly5 - Change. The eyes of your Au Ra hypnotise me. O_O

Noshpan - Female: Stay. I think the Au Ra skin is a tad too dark. I don't feel like I can really see any of her features. Her eyes certainly pop as a result though.
Male: Change. This is one of the first white themed males I have really loved the look of, go for it.

silverhope - Stay. Of those three I prefer your current, I do like her hair colour on the left variant though. :3

Tachyon - Change. I think your Au Ra face has more character somehow.

FlareR - Change. Holy moly!! He looks freakin' awesomely scary. I mean that in a totally good way though lol.

DoctorSecksy - Change. I like the male. :3 His smile is cute.

Priya - Change. oooo wow you are proof that brown hair can be beautiful! I love that shade. Her eyes are very striking too in both races. Your Au Ra has such a winning smile.

Akira - Stay. I like your kitty more I think.

MaethusXion - Change. I like your 3rd. (Xaela medium skin/evil) I think it is the highlights that do it, they look good.

Pomelo - Draw. Flip a coin! lol. I love how unique your Roe is. But I adore your cute looking Au Ra. That is also one of my fav hair colours on her. :3 She'd be perfect with freckles! (GEIF US AU RA FRECKLES SE!)

Fuma - Stay. Your Roe looks more badass. or...
Change. To the Elezen! She looks deadly and sexy. :O

Velthice - Stay. I'm a fan of tan characters.

KaijinRhada - If you change I say: left nose. Skin 3. Hairstyle 2 or 3. If you stay cat then stay moony. I like the skincolour on that one more with the hair colour. Now my opinion... Draw. Sorrrrry! They both look so awesome I cannot decide. lol.

zemogFC - Change. To your Highlander! I love her witchy looks. Either that or stay kitty.

Zumi - Draw. I said change before but now I find it harder lol. They both look nice. I guess the horns add something more if you want a more "interesting" appearance.

Colorful - Stay. Oh my gosh your Miqo'te is so cute!! She makes me think of Snow White for some reason. xD

Zerophiliac - Stay. I love your Lala's ghosty look. It's kinda spooky but awesome.

Red_X - Change. I'd change to the 1st one, he looks like a villain! :D

Mitsuyo - Change. I like your 1st one. She looks like she is plotting something eeeeevil lol.

I'm trying to think of reasons but I cant. I'm still a little torn on if I want to change or not though. xD

I am in the same boat as you! I love, adore, whatever other words - my Miqo'te. I'm not thinking of changing because I don't like her. It's more so the fact that I've played Mithra/Miqo'te for over 10 years now, and while I adore the other races (on other people), I just can't play them and I have tried - it just doesn't feel right. Au Ra is the first race that I could see myself playing other than Miqo'te, so I'm wondering if a change would be nice. I was thinking along the same lines as you, that maybe a alt is in order... (even though I can save my baby's design and change back any time). Also it doesn't help that I am in die hard love with my Au Ra. <3

Also, no worries! That's how I was with you as well. Your Au Ra is so lovely, but I have always adored your Miqo'te since - forever! But it's funny - to me Kai just looks like another Miqo'te in the batch, but you're not the first to say she's unique when it comes to how Miqo'tes look. lol I don't understand how she is unique, but I must have done something right~! Aw, thank you for your input! <3~ Since they released the benchmark, it's been growing on me. I'll give it a try for a couple of weeks and who knows, I might end up using it as my main. I've got exactly 2 Fantasias for that purpose.

I think you did great with keeping the essence of your character in your Au Ra. Personally, I love your current character but with the haircut you have in your signature. Your character always gave me that impression of being a true gridanian, devote to nature and, for some reason, you look like a druid. The Au Ra is lovely but I love your cat.

Ashkendor: Au Ra. I know you want it.

Yamimarik: I like how your Au Ra has those scaredy cat eyes X3

Kukajoo: Are you kidding me? Your Eleven is way better than everything else. Ever. Stay. Don’t change. No. Stay. Someone sequester his fantasias.

Leep: Elezen FTW!

Raminax: your Hyur is so simple but different enough to other hyurs.. I like him more.

Fuma: Male Roe, it seems to express you better.

Velthice: I prefer the full brown palette, more appealing.

zemogFC: I like your Highlander but if you want to try I prefer the Au Ra.

Zumi: The Au Ra is kind of plain, stay Miqo’te ;3

I know what you mean, I kinda feel like mine isn't particularly unique either. Her face type specifically, I see it often! But I suppose that is true of most races anyway as we only have a handful to chose from.

Thank you all for your feedback. :3 This is why I wish I could somehow preview my gear on my Au Ra. I'd like to know if she could pull off the same look, I like the naturey theme as a WHM since they are all about being one with the forest and whatnot. I'll probably stick with my Miqo'te, or if I do change, maybe do it a few weeks after launch but change back later teehee.

Urgh I just did a guildhest and 2 of the other players were also female Miqo'te and they both had the same face too. :3 This is why I am tempted to change. I guess it'd be wise to wait a while after Heavensward to use that as a reason to change anyway though, looks like many people will change. :D

I've been noticing the same thing haha In all my FCOB PT everyone nearly is a female miqote...haha now and then we will see a hyur or maybe even a roegadyn. My friends and I play this game we call count the cats lol. T_T

I have to agree with silverhope about the Au'Ra though- that same scheme (and to extent hairstyle) is pretty common. Not inherently a bad thing, mind you, just very popular.

I agree, you know there will be that initial flood of people changing - and then a flood changing back~! I think we just need to do what makes up happy, cuz no matter what we are gonna find people that look like us lol. XD

Oh why not. I'll go ahead and add my character to the mix. For some backstory, I spent all of FFXI as a Mithra and I've been a Miqo'te in FFXIV since the start of 1.0. With the forthcoming addition of Au Ra it's become a serious contender as something I could realistically switch to and feel comfortable with it.

Some comments. These two characters were created with different personalities in mind. The Miqo'te being kind and gentle while the Au Ra is meant to appear more protective of one's self and less social. Consider them two sides of the same coin. I have grown quite attached to my Miqo'te, particularly liking the idea of being a black cat as I like to say, however the Au Ra I have created feels quite captivating and may be a more fitting representation in terms of personality.

I'm glad you like her eyes! They are intended to be the focal point and that holds true for the eyes of my Au Ra as well. When I first created my Miqo'te for 2.0 she started out with a different look, but only two weeks in I used my free fantasia to change her appearance and it was at that time when her eyes were made violet. Another comment down below will elaborate a little more on why I made that choice.

I'm glad to hear you like them both! It is true that my Miqo'te has a somewhat monotone appearance while my Au Ra has more contrasting features that make her "pop" more. However that isn't to say that I consider my Miqo'te to be lacking in any way. Just a different aesthetic style with simplistic beauty. My Au Ra also keeps things pretty simple, but just a little more stylized.

It's funny that you mention that considering it's been a long standing person debate for me for many months. Having a character with blue colored eyes has a special significance for me, however, when it came to my Miqo'te and trying to make her eyes blue it felt "forced" for some reason. Maybe it was because of her overall tone, but going with violet seemed aesthetically more appealing. To this day I'm still conflicted about that decision despite feeling that the choice I made was the better one. Now with Au Ra, because of the blue scales of the Xaela it helped to make blue colored eyes feel completely natural and would allow my character's nickname to actually fit.

I actually have one of my retainers outfitted with the same appearance as my healer glamour with the intent of using a retainer fantasia to get a look at how she would appear wearing the same gear before committing to a fantasia myself. Doing that has actually already helped since the second draft of my Au Ra had a lighter tone which I noticed was very close to the tone of my Hyur retainer. I didn't like it as much and that's what got me to go back to the character creator and push her tone a few shades darker to bring her closer to my Miqo'te. Oh and don't worry. I mostly posted here out of curiosity in hearing what others would say. Concluding thoughts down at the bottom!

Thanks! I think they both have an amazing personality, though I think the reason why I consider my Au Ra to be more "all encompassing" is because while her outward expression is stern, through the use of emotes she can be expressed in a humble nature. My Miqo'te could come off as shy, but much more energetic when expressing herself.

I want to address this comment specifically as I notice a lot of the feedback I've received talk about eye color in particular which is an important point of discussion considering her eyes are a major focal point. I do have an attachment to having blue colored eyes, but I also recognize that the violet color I chose for my Miqo'te is extremely pretty. I made a quick edit to my Au Ra and changed her eye color to match my Miqo'te, though set to the same brightness level as her blue eyes seen above.

I really appreciate this comment. ^^ When I first got my hands on the character creator I initially overlooked face #4 believing it was too "aggressive" for my tastes. Later on I went back to take a closer look and came to realize that it actually was my favorite of the four. I'm so very happy with the way she turned out.

Thanks! I do think the violet color works well with her tone, but I feel like it clashes a little with the blue scales. If I could make the scales black I might like the overall look better. I feel like I need to work around the blue scales, but that ended up working in my favor in regard to actually making a character with blue eyes. I probably won't leave it up to a coin flip, but I get your meaning. I'm quite happy with both of them!

I feel like I should post a picture of my Miqo'te with blue eyes to be fair. I'll be added that! Both eye colors are pretty, but I ended up going with what I felt worked best for each character.


Concluding Thoughts: I greatly appreciate all the wonderful feedback! Both characters were met with praise and that makes me happy, though there does seem to be a slight tip in favor of Au Ra... maybe. Comments are back and forth or equally praise both. The main factor that makes the decision so difficult is the simply fact that I've had my Miqo'te for close to two years now. Even longer if you dial back to 1.0, though her appearance was different back then and technically a different character altogether. Not to mention having played all of FFXI (the only other MMO I invested years into) as a Mithra it's hard to imagine myself as anything but a kitty cat. If I don't switch it will purely be based on the attachment I've developed for my character. It's hard to let go of that and change even when believing that such a change would be a positive one.

As for my ultimate decision, it's undecided! The character creator, while extremely helpful, isn't enough for me. Until I get to experience all of their emotes as well as what it's even like to simply run around, I don't think I can make a decision with complete certainty.

Just an average day when TT came out everyone was playing the imperial to get his cards noticed how almost everyone was a Miqo'te except like 2 people. But the Miqo'te numbers probably will go down some at HW launch.

Elezen by a mile. There's nothing "wrong" with your Au Ra, exactly, but it's very "same-y" to several posted in this thread and others. Meanwhile, in all my travails of Eorzea, I have never seen a blonde Elezen except on males or NPCs.

Thank you for the nice compliment, my eye color for Au Ra is the color I aimed for with my lala too. It became more of a 'trademark' thing for any alt I made as well as time went though I know other people use that color too. :)

so I guess not too much of a trademark but just more of a color I make sure to pick a lot because I love it so much. xD

Better view of my Lala's eye color, since I noticed the lodestone picture for forums avatar sort of lightens it and makes it look dull and the other one i took was her emoting so it makes it harder to notice. :D
