TBH we need 50 more NMs like Tanaka added, decent drops + fast respawn + something for crafters to do.
If there are open world HNMs like in XI it's just going to lead to botting.

100% wrong. The new system is for alliance based content and he has said so himself. Apparently you do not know how to read or understand how the minor details of the claiming system we have received which will allow players to work together as a whole instead of always being at each others throats.
Loosely translated even Reinhart himself said something along the lines of it being so and he isn't 100% sure everything was translated appropriately or have come out in they way they are supposed to mean. Very common mistake when translating Japanese to English. Claiming bots won't be needed because of the way the NMs are being handled because everyone gets a crack at them. It was always the most rare NMs or the ones that dropped rare loot that had claim bots on them while the low selling item or rare/ex gear didn't have bots around and the NMs that popped fairly quick as well. HNMs though on this game roam and spawn in wide areas making it less likely to see problems from bots.
I guess what I really should be saying is it is too late we are getting one of the two they are deciding upon whether you guys say no now or not. They took results from the poll and are decided which of the two to implement, read the translations carefully and you will see they are deciding on two systems atm. If you don't like and refuse to give it a chance just do us all a favor and quit this game now, but before you do give me your account info. I will find a use for it. :)
They havent even said HOW they will do this yet and your petitioning to have it cut. What if someone jumping in on your mob could only happen if you use a call for help button like in XI? Not to mention, you would prefer the current claim system where, if you havent claimed a mob but hit it, you lose xp on it? Really? If you start the fight, and someone unwanted just walks by and kills it, it even says right here that you would still get the drop. I see no problem with letting them do what they have been doing since December, and thats improving the game. Why not be patient and see instead of jumping all over them for a paragraph response that in no way outlines how they plan to impliment what they are talking about here.
If your worried that the game will be more instanced than old school, I would relax. It states many times in this exact same interview that they plan on still having plenty of field mobs and nms for us to do what we like with. Give them time to work instead of assuming you know exactly how its going to be all gloom and doom style.
Doing his job is also making the game as playable as possible. Making sure that people from all walks of life can enjoy the content they have come to love. I think as long as they continue to have balanced end game content, including: Ground Kings, Pops and Instances they will be able to accomplish that. I think many of us are concerned that everything will be instanced and some of us really appreciate the competition of World NMs.
1. Game is low on players, therefore, lowman groups and such are a priority. Once those customers are taken care of they can work on large scale content for ps3 launch. I believe that's why he's messing with claiming system, I think they have problem separating claim systems like they did with regular mobs and campaign mobs in XI.
2. This sense of accomplishment can be done without excluding people.
Quoted from 2nd poll results, by Yoshi-P:
With the overall results on both polls and the overall changes we've seen since them, I think it's safe to say that Yoshi and crew made up their minds beforehand. People asked for content, we got targetting fixes. We asked for AH, we got "beefed up" Market wards, etc, etc.Quote:
Player opinions are pretty evenly split on this one, and the regional breakdowns are varied a bit as well. I'm kicking myself for not having put in a third option combining the other two: Skill and experience going to all parties, and loot going to only the first party to deal damage to an enemy.
I personally think that this mixed option (skill/experience to all involved parties, loot to only the claiming party) makes sense. Well, the official FFXIV forums will be going live shortly, and I'd very much like to open this topic up for discussion there to hear your opinions. I'll be posting, too!
I'm 99.999999% that this is how they will be implementing this system. Bots are not going away any time soon, you can bet on that.
Edit: And seriously, don't give me the "if you don't like it you can quit" bullshit. It's a legitimate discussion, accept the fact that not everyone is going to agree with you. Grow the fuck up.
I like both instanced and Openworld evenly available to players. However i like the latter more. For me Instances are like inviting few friends over to your house and playing a game, i want open world stuff in MMORPG. I want to beat something and tell other i did it without them saying "Fraps or it didn't happen". I like how open world stuff teaches new players how do stuff by watching veteran players even if they are not in your party or Linkshell. The game is already low populated, last thing i want is making people do stuff in closed off areas and never see players outside cities.
Whats wrong with competition, i dont understand this? do people want stuff handed to them? want to have EXACT same gear as EVERYONE in town? thats what happens with 5 min respawn NMs and Raids, everyone get everything. I agree longer wait time =/= challenge, but it will make it so everyone will have the gear. if its quick repop, decrease the drop rate.
I kinda understand why people don't want the 3 hrs windows, i know cause im not in highschool anymore and dont have much time, but what makes you think HNM in FFXIV = 3 hr respawn? because FFXIV copied everything like FFXI ?(yeah right..wouldn't be in this mess if it did).
i think respawn time will be scaled just like job abillties in this game are, berserk in FFXI has 5 min recast, Ferocity in FFXIV has 1 min recast(of course duration varied but thats not the point, almost all skills have 1-3 min recast compared to FFXI's 3-20 mins and 2hrs).
Bots gonna exist in every game, people will eventually try to break the rule, but completely voiding open world stuff is idiotic(mind open world not = HNM/NM only), see item pop NMs, weather pop NM and other stuff that are not timed/windowed. one way to reduce claims by botting is to increase spawn area(like how FFXIV have it now) if someone where to use a program that can pos-hack and claim, it can be easily detected, also that "1-3 sec of immune to claim" FFXI had to help people with bad connection and prevent some bots.
Lol, please heed your own advice before you spew it forth. I truly accept that a lot of people have a different point of view than me, hell the thread starter is in my LS and I don't have any problems with him other than a conflicting PoV. I also understand that me and you have nearly complete different PoV on most topics and I am not saying I am right and you are wrong but I was saying if you are going to go about in they way you are by pissing and moaning then you should just quit. It seems like you are fighting the game tooth and nail at everything they try to change and if you want something different, the simple solution is to play a different game.
Actually I was slightly wrong I was saying they are deciding between two systems but in actuality they are looking at implementing two systems as stated below from the translated articles from Famitsu by Reinhart.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...er-2011/page26
Link to Reinhart full translations. Goes onto the next page I believe as well. If you haven't read this yet, you should.
Like I said before, they should add about 50 NMs that work like the ones that Tanka did that will drop above average-good gear. However, the best gear should be reserved for progressive content that people will have to work on instead of claim/get best item in the game like XI did. That's just stupid.
If you want to debate like an adult, cool. I enjoy a good debate. But don't act like a child and tell people to quit if they don't like something. I for one am thoroughly enjoying the game as it is now, though it definitely needs a lot more work.
Don't get all pissed because I've proven you wrong multiple times in this thread even after you've admitted them all after the fact. I'm not pissing and moaning like you seem to think I am. All of my arguments have valid points to them whether you see them that way or not. And all are based on the (limited) info we have at the moment.
You on the other hand, post your own assumptions (which is fine in most cases) then get mad when you are proven wrong. You then go on to claim that I am misinformed and link info, that I've already seen before mind you, which doesn't even have anything to do with this topic.
Think before you post, and know what you're talking about. And do so in an adult manner, if you want people to take you seriously.
Can also add this suggestion:
Quote:
About claiming, why not just a "Help me out!" button and everyone can enter the fight. That's the simpliest and most logical feature.
Could be shown by a glowing or pulsing icon above the player's name and why not a change of monster's name color.
I can't see this system being implemented without lots of harassment and annoyances occurring.
Have you not been reading my posts? Obviously not, I have cited a few articles posted by others but I have yet to speculate anything. I have been saying let us wait for future posts from Yoshi-P before complaining about something we do know not the details of. Being dramatic? Made me LOL again.
You have proven me wrong? When? I have yet to see one time where you have done so. I guess in your own little world that just may be the case but in reality and actuality it is not. I have caught myself in one error when I said they were deciding between two systems and they were actually deciding to use both systems. I am not getting mad because you have proven me wrong on any occasion and and just returning the attack back at your in self defense. I admit in one post I wasn't directly writing to you but to the complainers instead(not people with different opinions but people who all they do every single post is complain about something or another). But Meowy, regardless of what we have been saying back and forth I still have respect for you and your opinions even though I don't agree with them.
LOL. Can I hire you to be my Jester follow me around in real life so you can make me and all my friends laugh? I might even tell one of the girls to smile at you so you can melt like butter. There is a first time for everything, even a non important bloke like yourself. :) Anyways I'm done playing your troll games, begone until I summon you forth once again. rofl
Good night child, it is past your bed time. You have school tomorrow kiddo. Plus I done playing your childish games. Heck I done with this thread. Have fun trolling someone else.

We are working to rebuild the battle framework, which will involve large-scale revisions to the enemy claiming and linking systems as well as the damage algorithm.
Proof enough for me that this is in fact the system they have decided to go with. Anyone can clearly see this if they read between the lines (ie: different color name displays to reflect your reward entitlements.)Quote:
-NEW-
Changes to enemy display name color to reflect your entitlement to battle rewards (based on adjustments to the way enemies are claimed)
Hate to say it but, told ya so.
@ Dargoth: You are welcome to scroll back and reread the discussion you and I have had. There was at least 2 times where you admitted you were incorrect. I'm not going to quote them. Let's agree to disagree and get back on the topic. It's not doing us any good by fighting with each other.
Unfortunately I think that's highly unlikely. I half expected this change to come with 1.19, and I was correct. Unless everyone and their mother despises the new system I don't see it ever being changed.
Best we can do now is ask them to implement a toggle for All/Party claim systems. And to make sure that open world content is still designed to be plentiful and challenging.
I agree, even when this thread and the thread before it were started, it was likely already too late. The 1.19 patch outline confirmed that.
This change alone is a potential game breaker for me, and for quite a few others, I'm sure. Regardless, I will still give it a chance. But in my eyes, the shortcomings of this system far out-weigh the benefits, if there are any benefits to begin with.
Either way I like the new system being implemented because it is something above and beyond what I have seen in a game yet. It is something new and refreshing to me personally, some say a similar system was in Aion but I didn't play that game. Too me it opens up a couple doors of possibility here, pure competition where instead of crap talking you can prove you are better at what you do than someone else but that is a double edged sword in the sense that it is possible to grief others unless they have some sort of countermeasure for this system and we will find out the details later. Also the other door there is common courtesy that is there supposedly with the Final Fantasy community, most people claim that this community is so much different than communities of games like WoW this is how we will find out if that is true or not. Would Diplomats be a prick and attack Perfection's claim? No, because of respect and common courtesy even though we as a whole don't care much about that other LS.
What if a LS was losing to the mob and asked for help and they already had it more than half way dead. They done the most damage and even if you help you will only get some of the loots the smaller spoils, while they who did the most work reap the most benefit. Sounds fair enough to me under the proper circumstances but as I was saying let us hear the full details and see how the system is going to work in full without drawing too much on speculation.
If they wanted to have content that involved a massive amount of people (dynamis, beseiged) why would it not be for that one case? It just doesn't make any sense and it's pretty much the final nail in the coffin to any open world content being considered "challenging".
And why do this while adding more NMs...? Oh well so-and-so got claim and is going to get the drop so other people will help them kill it why..? More like people will get behind it and freckin' spike flailing it, or get hate and try to kite it away or in circles or something outrageous.
I guess it will be back to LoL after everyone has all the items from new beastmen dungeons (that of course will have 5 minute re-enter times and all the good drops will be 3 feet away from the start to keep baddies happy).
I saw it in runescape in 2001. It was dumb.
LOL. Yeah right.
Or people could put on their K clubs and feed it TP so you wipe.
Open world content is dead with this update.
Better off renaming the game Final Instances XIV.
I will believe this when I see it, and vice versa.
Bottom line here is we don't know the full details. All we have are a translated Famitsu interview and a bullet point in a producer letter. Expressing concern over the upcoming changes is one thing. Flat out saying NO CHANGE WHARRGARBL without even knowing what the change is about is foolish. That kind of mentality is why we won't have hoverboards to ride on by 2015.
Except that this is not how it's going to work. I keep saying that. It's been mentioned by Yoshi twice, and Matsui once, and it will be confirmed on the forums shortly, according the the producer's letter. You can quote me on that.
I totally agree with you Visch, I wish we could change it. Everything you've said here is the same stuff I've been saying this entire time.
While there are valid concerns here, I believe few of us know what they have planned for content revolving around the claim system. I believe most of us are going from past experience from other games, and I am glad they will go through with their plans. The fact is, we do not know details on specific mechanics or have no idea how the content will work. I believe since 1.18 we know Yoshida knows what he is doing, he is able to bring challenging and fun content to the table. Please... for future cases, dont reject an idea when your basis are non official translations and there are no details what so ever on how things will work out.
They have confirmed now, with the last letter how this might work, but still, we have no details. Wait... just wait...
Alright, I am done posting here. The problem is you are going to believe what you want to believe no matter what til Yoshi-P himself comes out and explains how the system is going to work. You assume you know exactly what they mean by the lack of information we have gotten and flat out refuse the possibility of a better system whether you like it as an individual or not. Most of your are like arguing with a brick wall and no matter what anyone says you aren't going to budge until the human wrecking ball Yoshi himself does the job.
This conversation was never a debate it was always a one sided argument and I started on the wrong side. Either way this system is coming and I am going to love it, because I already enjoy the idea of the system without the details. Either way I will have fun with the game even if it doesn't quite live up to my standards, hell I am still playing it after the mistake of such an early release and the failure that followed. Anyways have fun agreeing with each other.
I'm sorry I loved everything about 1.18 but 5 minute re-enter time. Just like I love everything about 1.19 except this bullcrap.
I'm not jumping off the boat until I have to pay monthly for something I hate but SE should have learned their lesson from what happened with surplus on release. People were spreading false stuff about it before anyone even fully understood it. And even after it wasn't that bad people STILL cried for a full year almost about it!
Noaoki Yoshida plays alot of Rift. Rift has a generic claim system like most every other MMORPG. But it also has some other type of system that kicks in when a Rift event occurs.
I can't break it down technically, but every monster created from a Rift opening event is able to be attacked by anyone. When they die and drop loot, even if you helped kill the mob, you can't always pick up the loot bag. I haven't played Rift in a while so I don't remember if you still get some XP from helping make the kill or not.
Anyway, my point is that Naoki Yoshida may be taking a page from Rift with this new "no-claim" claiming system. It is a decent amount of fun, believe it or not. Bounding over a hill to see an adventurer surrounded by spiders and charging in to tackle a spider (or two if you line up the tackle real good) and help out sounds pretty adventurous if you ask me.
But time will tell. I'll get upset when this system actually starts being a pain in the ass, versus preemptively feeling the pain 1 month ahead of time.
Its been done in other games, and honestly it doesnt matter much/is interesting. Some of you have ffxi background, and live in that world. Im not saying the execution will be perfect, but in reality, the system itself is not bad, and it offers a different and entertaining world experience.
As far as spike flailing people and purposefully messing them up, the solution is to have mechanics that dont work easily like that. As far as killing people and profiting, most games rememeber the whole battle as long as the monster is alive, so that may not profit you. Also if the NMs are on a small timer, as in you have a limited amount of time to beat them, people wont profit by letting you die and waiting.
The plan is to make it so its actually better for people to work together, and have fun, without having to be in the same group all the time. It also allows for some more epic fights, and a feel of us versus them. Its open world, the whole idea of claiming is against the concept of an open world.
loot can be distributed like first claim gets an item that may be one in a series of items that allows you to pop a one party version of the monster that gives you an additional chance at some fat loot.
And the loot distribution for the big open world non claimable nm can be the same thing, but drops randomly to any person/party who had a certain level of contribution to the fight.
Dont be limited by old ideas, and recognize that they can actually make open world events/NMs that everyone has access too, and make some instanced events that only certain people get access too.
far as battle mechanics, for certain behaviors the NM can have party based enmity, so to really get the monster to turn toward them and face the late comer, he would have to have gotten more hate than the entire other party.
The monster can have certain moves that are for annoyances like those, moves it uses on the highest enmity players, and moves it uses on the highest enmity party. the highest enmity player moves would be like single target long range abilities, or moves that it uses without changing position, like a single target tailswipe, or rear foot stomp, or spell, or ability like fireball, or thunderstrike.
The old mechanics for boss fights were based around single parties, you can make new interesting fight mechanics based around an open world system
