Isoulda and all the NPCs for the 2nd riddle only give a hint as to how to solve the riddle. They have to relation to the desination you must go to.

If you talk to Valiant Hart, he gives you a clue that's something like, "I only know how to do arithmetic with numbers, not with letters!" This implies that it's a math puzzle.

I got the SWORD + SWORD = DAGGER on my game, but I saw the THAUM + ATURG = METEOR in this thread and had to solve it too. Magnesium02's solution is correct. The THAUM+ATURG one was a lot harder.

I hope they have more quests like this. The way they made it so that different people get different puzzles was brilliant.

im having problem with part 3

In the Mara guild i found a book that says

A deliberate display of emotion, as befits the situation, can be effective in deepening your relationships with others.

I can't find any NPC to talk to at Thal's Respite.

With situational emoting... can you do them anywhere in the area, so long as the area "label" has ticked over on your screen? I am in the spot for Hylfyr's band of cut throats and brigands, and I've emoted all over the area (but watching to be sure parts of the area are not described as the adjoining area). Nothing has popped for me yet...

I talked to the market guy, got the list, I am

G of A = Sunstone Earrings. I am 50 GSM so HQed them. I have them in my inventory, came back to Valiant Hart and nothing, I clicked on the message icon next to him and nothing?

Who do I turn the item in to? Do I have to Normal Quality them for it to work?

Nevermind, someone in my LS told me. You have to EQUIP the "X of Y" item on you. I just had it in my inventory. Being 50 GSM, I automatically HQed it, and thought that was the problem as well.

I've never even heard of a math puzzle like this before, so I was highly confused looking at hints how it's even possible for it to be a math puzzle, where do you get all the numbers from, and just how does one get to SWORDAGE from the original, etc.

I can kinda understand how it works after looking it up, but then again kinda don't. Good to have people smarter than me on math around.

I have riddle #1, talked to the guy in the thaum gild, talked to both npcs in Thal's Respite hut, yet I can't seem to move forward with this quest. Any suggestions?

Let me explain:

Each letter stands for a different digit. You have to figure out which letter stands for which digit.

Since SWORD is 5 digits and DAGGER is 6 digits, we know that D = 1. After all, even if you add 99999 + 99999, you get 199998. The leftmost digit (D) can't be any higher than 1. We assume that it's not allowed to be 0, because that's not really fair.

Since D = 1 and we know that D + D = R, that means 1 + 1 = 2, so R = 2.

Since R = 2 and we know that R + R = E (there was no carry), that means 2 + 2 = 4, so E = 4.

Unfortunately, there aren't any E's anywhere else. However, we do know that 1, 2 and 4 are taken. We also know that there was no carry after we did R + R = E.

We know that W + W = G and O + O = G. If you try any digit 5 or higher for O, you'll find that nothing works for W. This is because the carry messes it up. For example, if O = 7, then 7 + 7 = 14 and G would be 4. Carry the one, so 1 + W + W = 4 (or 14)? Doesn't work. W can't be two different numbers, and it can't be 1.5 or 6.5 either.

Therefore, O must be lower than 5. Since 1, 2 and 4 are already taken, we know that it must be 0 or 3. 0 doesn't work (O and G can't both be zero), so O = 3 must be true.

Since O = 3 and we know that O + O = G, that means 3 + 3 = 6, so G = 6.

Since W + W = G and W can't be 3, then it must be 8. That is, 8 + 8 = 16. G is 6 (good) and we carry the one.

Lastly, we have S and A. All we have left is 5, 7 and 9. Don't forget about the carry. Just guess and check, and we find that S = 7 and A = 5.

Can someone help me with Isouda's part of the quest. I know it's supposed to be on Gridania's side of the White Wolf Gate, but I just can't find the ??? mark.

I need to find her, too, for my part. According to the Lodestone, her location is Lower La Noscea, X:20, Y:38. Hope you find her there!

You have some of the numbers wrong... each letter is represented by 2 numbers

A=01
B=02
C=03
D=04... etc.

I have the same puzzle but with different numbers.

I would have never figured out this quest without coming to this thread.... apparently there are insanely intelligent people somewhere out there and they are expected to be wasting their lives playing FFXIV like me lol

I can't find the white orb (???) underneath the Leatherworker guild. Looking around for hours... Can someone help !?

I found it !!! :D

The pain of this quest is that you have to check all locations anyway, at least in my case as no matter what I deciphered the result was different anyway.

From the get go I had to travel to other locations despite the deciphering because the deciphered text NPC at location often didn't respond and had to go to the other NPC to push further the questline.

I have no idea if this is intended or broken but sure was interesting to play the actual explorer :)

I gave up on this quest cause all I know how to do is collect goobbue asses.

To the Site Admins and Devs,

You must pardon me but I'm necro-ing this thread for good reason... I'm genuinely wondering if this type of game play will return (just posted in the Suggestion forums as well).

Can we please get these types of quests in 5.0?

While there have been no other pure riddle quests, there has been a few quests that leave you to figure out the objective for yourself.

There was one attached to a seasonal event recently. I welcome quests like this, but having it be limited time was a bummer, I couldn't solve it before it went away.

Yes I did... and was fortunate to have people who provided guides, videos and images. Those were great and the OST in Matoya's cave "The Mushroomery" is actually one of the BGMs in my private room at our FC house.

Back to the topic on hand, what sets "The Greatest story Never Told" apart are the riddles... and that's what I enjoyed the most.
