True but did you not read the rest of what i said, like having to complete certain trials or stuff.
True it would not fix the problem but would be far better then having to do oh so annoying fates

I thought the OP's post had a great idea for them to implement though: increase the drop rate after a certain amount of fail. It'd still involve luck, it'd still involve pointless FATE grinding, but at least after some great amount of time there'd be PROGRESS towards something.
But the other thing that bugs me about the commentors here: the ATMA is essential! Yes, you can go do your Levi weapons and all that, but the Zenith is ONGOING, meaning if you don't get the ATMA/ANIMUS now, you'll be further left behind with future patches, and who knows what the weapons will be like in the future patches, so saying people should forgo an important questline is idiotic. And when all is said and done its a moot point anyways as its just a bad game mechanic. I'm all for including FATE's into the design of it, but there were countless ways to make the system more fun than what it is. This is a game afterall, we're supposed to be doing things that are fun, not mindlessly counting down the hours.
I did read everything you said, actually. Hence why I mentioned the part about people complaining that others got theirs easier than those who put in countless hours in the initial grind (this is on the assumption that drop rates increase in the next update). This is just like the echo update for HM primals. I know several people who hate that it happened because now people can just be handed their relics whereas some players had to put in the work to get past Titan HM without the buff.
Hello, guize, I'd heard you have some problems with farming ATMA
This fate grind system is too stupid ! i dont mind to grind Levi for mirror drop with rate of 0.5%, but at least i know its worth it. but running the whole map from N to S , W to E is kind of waste of time. i have 2 atmas, but i dont think im gonna do this anymore.
Are people still whining about this, seriously? You figure that fans would have just given up by now.
As far as I'm concerned this grind is acceptable. Relic itself isn't required to complete the main game and is entirely optional. I've run around for 20 hours now trying to get atma and have only got 1 so far, but I'm not complaining.
This is almost the same as whining about FFXI's lvl up grind, only there was even worse cause you could actually lose everything you worked for.
Sure, the relic isn't needed "now", but good luck telling people that in a future patch or two when groups start to scrutinize (again) people over not having optimal gear.
whining?
I have every alt at 50 and everyone has a relic, at this pace it will take longer to do atma than all the other time spend gearing, leveling, and questing combined.
I dont mind grinding for a goal but I have not had one drop in 9 days, I play 5-6 hours a day. I have fellow fc member that have gotten them all in a day.
Then it is going to take doing another 30 plus dungens for tombs for one book.
So you'll farm for a mirror drop with a dismally low rate, yet atmas are a problem for you? Give me a break.
Yeah. I love grinding for tombs. I get my shovel, go out into graveyards, maybe even dig up a dead body. Hell, sometimes I even get TOMEstones.
I farmed East shroud for 12+ hrs before getting an Atma. I got the one in Lower La Noscea on the first Fate...lol
I still recommend getting the Lower La Nosc one first. Largest FATE map available, FATEs spread so far apart.
And ending on Water Bear. Smallest FATE map, FATEs comfortably close to each other, RIDICULOUS FATE spawn timer (as in beat one, another one always pops up).
I am posting here in the hope that a comm team or dev team member actually reads it. This is not a complaint or rage. This is simply a set of facts.
Fact: I stopped keeping track of hours spent farming atma around 50h, and GC seals (earned from FATE grinding) some time after that at around 300k. To be fair, some small percentage of those were earned doing roulettes and some supply/provisioning here and there, but I would feel comfortable saying that upwards of 95% was FATEing.
Fact: During this time, I scored exactly zero atma. I understand that the nature of the RNG beast is such that in order for there to be people who get their 12 in ~10h, there has to be people like myself on the opposite side of the bell curve.
Fact: Because of this (lazy, horribly designed, seriously flawed - opinion) system, I have cancelled both my XIV and XI subscriptions. I have been subscribed to both since their respective NA launches. This issue has cured my addiction.
I mostly think XIV has been a great game since ARR. It incorporates (or has, until this fiasco) hardcore and casual gaming in a pretty synergistic way. I enjoyed my time with it, and I would love to say that I will come back when this atma drop system is fixed/increased/updated (as it will be - 4 AK nerfs since ARR).
With the speed at which they are running the treadmill, I would be chasing level 200 gear by that point in addition to being 4 or 5 stages behind on the relic. (At pace, that'll be August.) Staring down that barrel seems more like work than entertainment at that point, something I'm not paying $15/mo for.
Again, not interested in arguing or defending my PoV. Just thought that someone should know that the massive massive misstep (again, opinion) of the FATE-atma grind is costing them customers and revenue - customers that have been loyal to the franchise for almost 30 years. I know I'm just 1/2,000,000 of the player base, but I bet I'm not on my own.
The atma of the twins (central thanalan i believe) has been by far the most annoying one.
2 weeks there and nothing yet
I maybe do 10-20 fates a night. I log in do my roulettes, help out LS if needed then go off and do Atma's. I pick different zones each time and look for lowest populated zones. So I have 2 atma's to be fair I have only been doing this for about a week. I am more dreading the animus than the fates. 13500 myth is just a ton.
This. Is. Not. Fun.
Steady progress, even slow progress, is fun.
I don't even mind fishing (at least I'm catching SOMETHING).
But this? I can't even use a sub-50 class to use the XP. If you have bad luck like I do, it's just a terrible (and possibly infinite) waste of time.
And the more people quit farming Atmas (either give up or get theirs) the more time each FATE takes. So it actually gets WORSE every week.
South Than is actually pretty easy. FATEs were popping around Lil'migo rather frequently and they're easy. There we generally a lot of people around when I went for my first set along the Amalj'aa territory, so the FATEs there were pretty easy to do. Sometimes I even purely solo'd them as Monk in CT gear, so i90s shouldn't have a problem.
Most FATEs in the areas you grind atmas from can be solo'd. Even having your companion helps for most of them.
Well I finally finished getting my last atma and am 12/12 as of last night too about 86 hours to get them all. So about one every 7 hours or so of play time spent farming fates non-stop. I would put in about 3-4 hours of atam farming each night with a few night off here and there to recover from the insanity. Worst times in zones were up words of 10-12 hours quickest drop was 4 hours in a zone.
Was doing one fate about every 5 min or so. Just give a better idea of the number of fates i did.... I was about 500 fates done in my achievement log before 2.2 am now at 1300 fates done after 2.2 ~800 fates done 800/12=1.5% drop rate.
1000 character limit......
Unless those saying keep the current system and have them already put up with that kind of a drop rate, then please shut up during that time I could think of 100 different more productive things to do. It needs to be a measurable system aka like I had to do 65 fates in each zone for atma. That I could live with just needs to be fair and an actual goal like the damn books 1000x times easier then the fates. Tomes alone farming 7 brayflox's longstop (first 2 bosses) runs an hour for 80 hours ~ 28000 myth tomes enough for 18 books. Its smoothing sailing now, by comparison. Drops in FFXI were not that bad I camped mobs for days for a spawn pop, but guess what if you got claim, and killed it you got a drop.
Tiamat, Argus, Khimaira, Cerberus, Nidhogg, Aspidochelone, King Behemoth, Overlord Bakodek, Tzee Zicu The Manefist, King Arthro, Simurph, Serket, Lord of Onzozo, Dark Ixion, Sandworm, Bloodsucker and Fafnir. Plenty to mention that had drops not 100% and took more than 20 hours to show.
However most of their drops could be sold for a large amount of gils, and gils had real money value in FFXI not like ARR.
In FFXI for example if you obtained the "MP Ring" from the coffer at OZ, it just felt like you earn some real money.
Therefore I think the difficulity for item drop in ARR should not like XI as ARR is intented to be a game not suitable for RMT.
Agreed I have the other 11 Atmas got them within a week and a half. Atma of the Goat? 6 days and counting of 2-4 hours a night of farming
Regarding ATMA drop rate, it works like everyone has his own drop rate randomly, maybe it is what RNG refer to ^^;
What is the Exact Drop Rate % of drop? 2% Chance?
Assuming you are farming efficiently...
(leaving when you are confident it will be gold, prioritizing 2 that are near each other over others, prioritizing easy to win fates if alone, etc)
Assuming all of this, your droprate per atma will likely range between zero and 10 hours each.
Anything beyond that is extraordinarily rare. So rare, I have never seen it, and I have over 60 atma farmed at this point.
I don't know how you spend all of your game time and whether farming Atma is all that you do or if you have well geared jobs as well, but regardless, it's difficult to envision getting 60 Atma without a LOT of free time, or very few responsibilities pulling you away from the game.Quote:

Most people do not have this opportunity for various reasons, not the least of which are school and/ or work. As such, the time they do spend in game is likely more limited, and therefore, spending 10 hours with practically nothing to show for it is exceedingly frustrating because those 10 hours could be spent on something that is measurably more productive.
I myself only farmed one set of 12, and once I dedicated my time to farming them without thinking of doing anything else and focused on the goal, I became much less frustrated with what I was doing. I also used it as an opportunity to level my chocobo companion and spiritbond gear so it wasn't completely wasted when I spent 3+ hours farming an Atma.
I've said this before, but I am personally convinced that SE designed the gating of this specifically to make the "average" player pick their favorite class and move on to other stuff after.
What could be advantages of wanting that?
A more distinct spread of classes in the high end content comes to mind.
Patience is a virtue... I got 7 Atmas Already...
why are people complaining? the system has changed and relic weapons are no longer necessary. The reason SE made atmas in this way is to annoy players to discourage them to even want to upgrade there relic as they want to discourage everyone having the same weapon and to encourage some players to go after other weapons such as primal extreme weapons or even turn 5 weapons as both beat a zenith and atma weapon.
An animus weapon is on par with an upgraded tidal weapon and of course best weapons in the game atm are from turn 9. Of course got soldiery weapons as well.
They kept the relic line going for people who actually like a mindless grind in this instance for atmas. However they will keep releasing new weapons obtainable by other means that will be on par and better than a relic. If you don't like the atma grind just give the relic a break and go for something else because trust me you don't need it any more.
It is an obvious time sink to keep people entertained long enough for them to release more content. Problem is the time sink for most is not enjoyable. I pretty sure the people who enjoy it are in the minority.
its random. get over it. its been the nature of mmo's for a looong loong time. They make it too easy and it negates the other problems they were trying to solve such as keeping people doing fates to help levelers as well as keeping people out in the world so it doesnt become a barren joke of an mmo world like wow.
For those who like to QQ I have atma on every job and animus on one. I wont bs. I certainly dont intend to get animus on them all but are you seriously griping about being given company seals for earning a better weapon? I can say with near 100% certainty that every person crying is a post wow mmorpg player which barely constitutes such.
I imagine if you knew what it took to get an epic weapon in a game such as everquest you would boycot it and shoot your cherios out of your nose. Ironically i found nothing wrong w/ that and didnt complain there either. The developers make the game and the design choices, dont like it? dont play it. SOmehow, somewhere along the lines the children of this generation have gotten the idea int heir heads that they can just complain when something takes a bit of effort, and the dvelopers will just "adjust" it to appease them.
Just as much the greedy devs fault for literally rewarding this behavior by doing so. Money before legitimacy and purity of the genre i guess.
Signed - someone who is absolutely and utterly fed up with the games being dumbed down to the point of infancy. I invest alot of time and hard work, time and time again to earn something and the pride which goes along with such. Only to have the devs nerf it the next patch. SOmehow and for some reason I kid myself into thinking this wont continue and was a one-off tragedy... however its becoming more and more obvious, I'd be better suited just waiting till the content is a patch behind. Then you can progress/gear twice as fast and 3x as easy.
So much for continuity, immersion etc... ugh. Dead horse I guess. The bell curve constitutes that I'm far outnumbered as far as stance on the issue, and thats ok... but for the love of god must I wait for Pantheon to launch for even a taste of a prod company who values the genre itself over the population blizzard drug in?
Let the flames fly.. I may even pop back in to pretend like i care.
Awesome 1000 character limits are cool - and practical. Oh wait, no they arent. /mourn people who try to post something informative. Obvious SE doesnt read the forums. So many people have had a fit over this, you would think they would fix it. One thing that MAKES sense to fix. Then again, they need to adjust the echo buff for the people who dont want to put the effort into learn mechanics and somehow believe because they pay the same as anyone else, theyre entitled to being able to kill all the same shit.
