Why no regional servers?

Playing with people from other nation, doesn't prevent you from playing. It's not a matter of "rather".

Half the time I don't even know what countries people are from because all they do is talk about the same boring crap anyway. Everyone's the same, more or less. As far as it concerns an MMO, everyone is basically the same.

Your personal experience don't a statistic make. I'd dare say that if your experiences are so dull, it's because you didn't try to get to know people yourself.

Not true at all. I live in Japan and experience the same lag as everyone else. It's not so much the ping rate or server/client transfer rate but rather how slow the servers are. That and how many requests the servers get per second. Remember when the game first came out and it would take 5 seconds to exchange items between you and your retainer? Or changing gear? Some of that went client side, but mostly optimization's were made server side. Something that should have been taken care of in beta.

I'm still enjoying the game SE and as a software developer myself I know how long this stuff takes.

International servers are great idea to interact with everyone in the world. Eventually chat translation will get better. So I could be messaging you in German and you wouldn't even know.

Sorry but pretty sure the majority of the groups were started with that simple statement simply because you weren't sure if they spoke your language or not. But apparently since you can experience the Eiffel Tower or fine sushi cuisine through that kind of interaction, I guess I'll just say I'm envious of you.

Most server "lag" is not because of location, it's how SE has the servers set up. Hell for the most part I hardly ever see any server latency anyways...and I live in Canada.

Also not as many people play the game so that "helps". I would like to see an accurate number of how many people still actively play.

Thank you for clarifying this for everybody, since a lot of people in the English forums think SE is purposely treating them like a red headed step child because they are so important lol. Lag in Japan, Lag everywhere. Even the devs said xiv weighs down on their pcs also, graphically and otherwise. So its a problem that everyone has from the devs to the players, worldwide.

That made absolutely no sense, but ok!

Nothing pisses me off more then not being able to play with a friend from EU just because I have the NA copy. Global FTW. My first language is also not English, I wonder if that gives me an other perspective. I know exactly what it's like to be among a whole group of people I barely or don't understand at all and I've learned to just deal with it and use 'sign' language. The auto translator is a lot like signaling meaning to people and making faces at them. Call me weird I think it's fantastic we get to interact with people from everywhere.

It's funny how you only ever fixate on the minor points of an argument.

If there are twice as many people on my server who can speak my language, that increases the change of meeting a kindred soul, right? If I can't talk to half the people on my server, that decreases my chance of meeting fun people, right? I don't see how this requires anything other than common sense to figure out, let alone statistical analysis.
