100%? You FAIL!

This isn't the special olympics where you can win some medals just for showing up. Too many successes will devalue my own synth. You need to accept that failing and losing is part of real life, just like it is in game life, otherwise it won't be realistic. You need to learn to embrace the struggle, because when you succeed, it makes it that much more sweeter.

I honestly don't have trouble synthing. It's really just a game of arithmetic.

If your Durabilty + % Complete is less than 100, then you are in the process of failing your synth. You need to play it safe by using the Standard command and/or use your special abilities to pull you back that 100 total. If your Durability + % Complete is higher than 100, then you can go ahead and take a risk with a Bold command or two to up the Quality.

Using this method, I rarely fail a synth. Only when I'm attempting a synth that's 4 or more ranks higher than me do I start to get one or two failed synths.

The problem is that the system as is relies too much on randomness. Your stats make very little difference, and the same is true for your gear. The only things that makes a difference are rank and (arguably) abilities. The other 50% is basically luck. That percent increases sharply as you go higher above your rank.

Agreed.

I'd do the following to fix crafting:
1)make synths 'harder'
2)increase potency of abilities
3)reduce overall effect of luck

Ideally, one should be able to overcome the effects of luck by using abilities, but currently that isn't the case. Luck and relative craft rank are still the biggest factors.

Sometimes, you just have a bad day.

I dunno when it happened because for the longest time I loved the crafting system here.

But now its just a huge PITA. I never thought anything could make me miss the randomness of XI's crafting system, but compared to the current state of crafting here where it's just even more random, and it takes 10 times longer to finish the attempt - I'm beginning to feel the ever unpopular "I wish this was more like FFXI" stance for crafting. :P

In fact it made me start crafting more in XI lately. But here? I don't even bother anymore. A shame because I love the animations and the whole system was fun before the complete randomness of success at any rank and overzealous chaotic elements started creeping up.

I mostly only skill crafts through leves now, much to the dismay of my retainers who are still holding onto piles of crafting mats, waiting for me to like the system again. So, its especially in the case of locals for me when the 100%/zero durability nets you less sp that I agree with the OP. Even if the item is considered too damaged to keep (0 durability) it was in fact completed (100%). You should get 100% sp off of it.

Considering that I like the system as it is now and it doesn't need any revamp, I'm gonna say my 2 cents about how it would be nice to be, but it doesn't have to.

I find the 100% failing very. Very. VERY frustrating, but it's kind of alright. If you complete an item with 0 durability, if you'd use it it would turn into a plump of useless puke. Regards on how frustrating this is, I'd keep this one.

I agree to the randomness of the success though. When I've crafted a better hammer for my Blacksmith, I was thinking of "Wow! Now sh*t just got real!", and at the end I found myself failing slightly less, but still markably.

I like the system as it is though, as it gives me more satisfaction when I do things. I don't like to craft when I'm sure something is successful; it doesn't give me any satisfaction or sensation of success, just a "woo hoo. I did it.", but with the actual system I really feel like "I've tried so long for this and now I did it! Man I'M SO F*CKING [SIZE=5]HARD[SIZE=6]CORE[/SIZE][SIZE=7]![/SIZE][/SIZE]"

I think that it's fine the way it is. I'm new to crafting, but if you make an item with 0 durability and it reaches 100% completion, that item is still broken, and because it's broken, shouldn't count towards a completed item.

It'd be like if Wal*Mart decided to sell you a CD that was snapped in half. It's a complete CD, but it's useless because it's busted. The same logic applys in games. You're not going to want to buy something that's broken, so why would they program a game to do that, when artificial intelligence is attempting to make a computer act human. It's only right that the item should be discarded.
