If you call it chars "toons" expect to be corrected. Ditto with calling DRG 'goons'. WTF comes up with these stupid terms??

I also cringe at 'DPS'.. because it means 'Damage Per Second'... which tanks, healers, and support classes do as well.

'DD' (Damage Dealer) was what we used in FFXI, and it is a far more accurate term for the role. Sadly though, the 'DPS' train has left the station and it's coded into the game... :(



But anyone who insists on using the terms 'Toons' or 'Goons' will find themselves company to RMT, gil-sellers, and obnoxious asshats in my /blacklist

I'm not sure I would blacklist anyone over it but using 'whisper' also gets me. I mean you have to type /tell -- is that hard to get it right? lol

I call them characters, because I'm a Pen&Paper-grown RPer.

People who flip at other people calling their own, paid-for collection of pixels something they feel comfortable with, I call immature assholes.

Different places in the world and different cultures have different naming conventions and we would be intrigued if somebody start using a different term. Using your example, if somebody came up to me in the UK and called a car an "auto" I would notice pretty much straight away. The same could be said for if somebody called it an "automobile" - you would immediately assume they were posh.

Same goes for games so I don't think it's an issue being interested in this. I personally use character because this game is a lot less cartoon-like than most MMO's out there, and the name "toon" became a big hit from WoW where the characters are considerably cartoon-like.
