Yeah, I don't care about voice acting. I play the game with the volume so low that it wouldn't matter most of the time, anyway. I'd rather they put their time, money and efforts into creating a better infrastructure and interesting updates and expansions. I don't need the NPCs to talk to me to understand what's going on.
I find that games with less or no voice acting are able to tell better stories, so I am pretty happy with the way it is so far.
OP is maybe overstating it but he's right. Having to read text really interrupts the immersion which this game is doing better at than most MMOs. Having to read means you can't watch what's going on. At this stage in gaming, voice acting is standard. To those that are complaining about the quality of voice acting, I would say it's on par with any other FF game, which you liked enough to buy this one. They should have at the very least added voice to all the main story line quests. If it's a cutscene, it should have VO. Having to read while stuff is happening distracts from the beauty of the game. The worst part about it is that they have very spotty VO sequences, so you never know if it's coming or not. Also, the inconsistencies just make it seem like they ran out of time/money to finish it. It makes the game feel rushed, which I'm sure it was being that this was a rerelease of a game that was a net loss in the first place.
Thought, these are all low level quests right now and most people will be done with them in a few months and never care about the voice acting in them again. I just hope that any new content and repeatable high end content has it. People shouldn't just fanboi it up and say we don't need voice acting. The community should publicly express their desire for more of it so that more gets done in the future.
P.S. what's up with this 1000 char limit?
Dunno about killing but it's kind of weak, and it's the kind of stuff that happens when the game has to be playable on an ancient and limited console.
Wow, so much hate against OP's suggestion. After years of playing FFXI's story in silence (enjoyed it) and then switching to SWTOR and playing the story there, I really felt much more immersed in the story, sure like someone said it didn't save the game from it's current state, but believe me I would have NEVER touched SWTOR without that big selling point of everything voiced. With good voice activing it really can make a HUGE difference.
I'm fine with the game's current state, but what's wrong with adding voice overs? if you don't like the voices, can't you just mute it? Both sides win.
The way it stands right now, I have to struggle to read the tiny text dialog in my resolution of 2560x1440, and it really isn't helping much in getting me involved in such a nice story.
It certainly isn't killing the game. What is there is done quite well.
However there seems to be hard cuts in what is and isn't voice acted...which feels off.
Also the scenes that are not voice acted are totally silent. No music, no sound effects...it does make it seem like they meant to voice over the scenes fully but then stopped short and shipped as it.
And yeah...3 or so years ago, it wouldn't have mattered...however a game of this quality with partial voice acting does seem a bit strange. Im certainly not complaining about the entire game not being voiced...but it did take some getting use to, and I feel that finishing all the voice over scenes would have improved the game.
