FFXIV wheres the MMO?

I really don't see much difference between fate grinding and exp camps with a party. Really the only differences are that you change camps more often (depending on which fate spawns and where) and having the OPTION to do them in a party or solo. Fate grinding in a party is more efficient since you are guaranteed full exp on any mob your party tags regardless of if you did enough damage to it. I was in a full party fate grinding with some people I met in /shout and we had a blast running around Coerthas fighting NMs, dragons and other monsters. There's also dungeons if you get tired of fates, just because they aren't quite as efficient as fate grinding doesn't mean they're not an option. Imo people that complain about not grouping with anyone while leveling are just imposing it on themselves, if you really enjoy it so much why does it have to be the most efficient way to level up for you to do it? (even though fate grinding in a party actually IS the most efficient way to level)

IMO, Squeenix is approaching this the way a heavily story-driven MMo should be approached. Leveling is being treated as simply a means to an end. You level so you can do higher content. And the level really doesn't matter in some of the content, as it takes skill to get through a bit of it. As you experience the story and do the huge amounts of content in this game, you happen to level up. You don't contentrate on leveling, because the content is so good that you barely notice. At least, that's how it seems to me. Leveling happens, but as important as it is, it's just not... important. I hope I'm making sense to someone. lol

I consider games like WoW, LotRO, and FFXIV to be MOs, rather than MMOs. Eve Online is the only one that gets the 'massively' part right, in my opinion.

In FFXI, you were basically 'required' to party with people in order to progress. This, for better or worse, forced community interaction. The forcing of interaction increased the probability of meeting people, and making friends.

In FFXIV, you are almost never 'required' to party with people, and when you do, it can be with 'anonymous' people through Duty Finder who you will probably never meet again. This does not increase the probability of meeting people or making new friends.

You CAN go out of your way to meet people, yes. But now it is optional (and easily avoidable) rather than forced (and almost mandatory). This can hinder new people to a server (who will either join linkshells due to advertising rather than interacting with people first), or having to be of an 'outgoing' nature to walk up to a stranger and say let's be friends.


Since I've returned, I've made ONE new friend (fortunately I have many LSs and FC friends to chat with). Ironically, this new friend was made as we were waiting for Duty Finder to come back up.

There are exp parties like FFXI and 1.0 used to have, but they're currently rare. You will just have to wait until a lot of people finish all their quests by leveling their main class. Right now 2nd classes are very boring to level because it's mostly just pure grind since you can't repeat quests. I'm really looking forward to group leveling again!

I really don't see why people complain about options. It's never good to "force" player to play a certain way. I personally think it's great that you can get by solo so well up to max level, that the option exist.

Now if you're only playing MMOs to play with other people why the hell are you rushing to max level and just solo-farm then?
Why not party up with friends and grind monsters with chaining or do dungeons and FATEs together? There's nothing in the game that is punishing you for partying up with friends.
Besides now you're max level on your own and have to wait for your friends to get to max level before you can tackle the end-game content.

Also FATEs are exactly that... MMO content. Or did you solo all the FATEs by yourself?

TL;DR: Party up with people if you want to play with others... Why do you need the game to spoon feed you parties? Force yourself to make a party instead.
