I'm not trying to belittle your feelings. You are entitled to your feelings and, by default, your feelings are justified. I'm just trying, perhaps poorly, to encourage more openness to change. :)

Maybe you missed it, but gathering was pretty much ignored during 1.0 and I just thought that would end in 2.0. Specific examples I'm speaking in regards to mob placements. It was really... impossible to gather especially when hoards of imperials were crowding Iron Lake... for one example.
Another was stats that capped in explicably early and had no noticible effect on anything you gathered for the entire length of 1.0.
Sure they're working on it now but will the end product bring any satisfaction or will it become a chore because so much depth purpose and relevance will be removed to please those who would rather go raiding dungeons?
That's a good point, I'm not a dungeon or end game type of player, gathering and crafting are basically my end game, I do hope the systems in place are challenging AND fun and not totally put to the side, marginalized so it's not really an integral part of the game.
Something tells me that they would not do that though, but stranger things have happened. :P
I'll that other game and see while awaiting more details. Others may not think so but the stakes are high for me. I want to feel happy that gathering will be fixed ay last ...
In all honesty, in 1.0 I could just spend a afternoon having FUN playing the gathering mini-games. While I wasn't a market guru by any stretch at selling things, I found gathering quite enjoyable. When I saw they had simplified it to clicking and chances I was disappointed but open to the change. One of the things I loved about 1.0 was the gathering and crafting systems and how unique they were. In games like WoW leveling tailoring can be quite tedious and stale; didn't have the magic to it that 1.0 had.
For lalas like me and Hiir please keep a open mind to how we can implement it best for everyone. I think limiting it to your garden is a great idea.~
Until then I'll sit tight for more information and try not to worry. :3
I don't really like the idea of a retainer gathering for people. I'm sure some people don't like to gather, but that means you go buy that mats of the AH or whatever that us gatherers used our own time to get. If this really does happen i feel like the retainer should be gone all day and bring back like 20 materials, with only maybe 1 HQ if any.
I agree with Hiir, but lets wait and see what it will be like in beta and then we can start tearing it apart :P
My hatchet is ready...
I know gatherer/crafters are subclass now but I also started as a Miner in FFXIV thinking it was cool to be able to start as none fighter/mage class. I'm ok with the subclass but I don't want the devs to dumb down gatherer/crafters. Lots of JP expressed this as well.
I was just thinking lightly about the retainers doing gathering for you but again I am just hoping the devs already know how some like Hiir and others feel about this and not go to that extent. Still hoping it's something really minor like others mentioned where it's just all NQ low low level stuff or not even regular gathering related but more like attending your own farms in housing and stuff.
you guys seem to be under the impression that our retainers will come back from their "gathering chores" and have stacks upon stacks of 99 items and that will throw off the ballance of things. i don't think that it will be that way, and i for one welcome the idea for retainers to gather for us. no matter how they pull it off, it's a cool idea. and i ..."feel very strongly about it." :)
