Yeah but don't deny you still face the "right direction" or you did until the day you quit, just in case.
I only got cooking to level 51 and I was always asking "what direction do I face to get skillups with xx crystal" in linkshell.

Based on usual people It would be a sin against humanity to have monsters go to sleep at night or only get aggressive at night since XI did it. Playing XIV makes you appreciate just how many little touches they threw in XI in regards to stuff like that though.
As for synth direction, it pretty much becomes second nature to people regardless if you believe it or not, just like moon phases in terms of drop rates. The reason SE would implement stuff relating to moonphases or days is quite simple:
It can affect more than crafting.
Holy shit, what a simple concept. >.>

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question!
You have no idea what you're talking about:
Do you ever stop to wonder why SE would associate a specific element to each day, month, year and direction of both FFXI and FFXIV while simultaneousl refusing to disclose whether or not they have an effect on in game mechanics such as crafting? I think it's absurd to think otherwise.Quote:

In terms of moonphases, there's a Blue Mage spell called Plenilune Embrace which heals the party member and gives them attack and magic attack boosts that varied based on moon phase, given the name. Stuff like that is affected by moon phases and the days but people link it mostly to crafting.
Kira seen FFXI and immediately went into "NO!" mode lol. The only issue was how it was presented to us compared to XI being more straight forward about it.
Anyone who has spent a decent amount of time farming HQ darksteel and gold ore in FFXIV has noticed by now a difference in drop rate on new moon and full moon phases.
The only question is to what degree these things affect crafting and gathering. As you can see by my signature, I was an avid FFXI crafter and devoted all of my time to it. HQ theory crafting went to an extreme of testing whether equipping an elemental staff had an effect on the HQ rate but I can assure you that direction and time frames were the norm.
