If you take out Dmg gear and exp loss, where is the risk in dying? Lets make it hardcore then ... die and you stay dead forever GAME OVER.
As someone who spend a ridiculous amount of time capping back out on FFXI, including on summoner (which no one ever wanted in their colibri or mamool parties), I would just like to say that I'd be happy to see exp loss instead of gear damage. I never once deleveled from 75 because it isn't hard to spend an hour once every week or two to go get your cap back.
The reason I DO want exp loss back? Because certain people can always be relied upon to delevel at events, and every time we would all laugh endlessly because so-and-so couldn't equip their gear. Or leveling up, there was endless entertainment from getting your level, and then party wiping ~right~ after. (Jungle anyone? XD) Sure, it was annoying, but I have some brilliant memories laughing with my friends because of it.
What do I get with gear damage? The joy of switching to my craft jobs and fixing it for you. *twirls fingers in mock excitement*
I say it again, gear durability (and with that gear damage) will still be in 2.0

Here you can see the durability bars besides the equips
And to the exp loss: If we can't loss more exp than to 0% and don't delevel, than it could be ok.
If you can delevel, you need only die once at 50 and you are mostly naked. And maybe buged too, if you have a weapon on that you can only use at 50 and you are suddenly 49 again.
unless they take away the lvl requirements for all gear and make it everything optimal...you know sence level sync is coming in 2.0 anyway and they said they are make'n it where you won't need to worry about having tons of gear sets to do lower content with new adventurers. i could see that being one possible road to travel.
Am I the only one who doesn't think it's THAT annoying? It's more or less just a mild gil-sink that might get in the way when you've been using your gear for a long time and haven't been paying attention.
