The dilemma for me isn't whether or not I can play with friends, it's whether or not I'm going to be punished for supporting Square-Enix and FFXIV by having my character - the one I've been leveling under the pretense of keeping him in 2.0, the one who has a number of achievements and items that won't be obtainable in 2.0 - restricted to a server that for all we know may remain a Japanese server after the re-launch, in which case I'll be subject to continued latency issues, as well as a lack of new English-speaking players who will all most likely migrate to the new regional servers instead. The regional server issue might also mean that there aren't many players on in my timezone's primetime, leaving me at a disadvantage for content.
Also as a roleplayer, if Yoshi-P follows through on his plans for an official roleplaying server, that means I'm stuck either having to reroll and again, lose everything I worked for under the pretense of keeping my character, or waiting for transfers to become available, meanwhile missing out on the burgeoning community that is (or at least should be) so important to roleplaying in an MMO.
