I know it's just a first preview, so I say this half jokingly, but imagine they give highlanders green skin before giving them eyebrows.

Unrestricted glamors were such a crime to the lore nuts.
But all race full color range skin and hair is apparently a godsend.
I think it's just associated with Evercold hype. People dont necessarily like it, they just dont think about it because omg evercold.
I think this held true prior to 7.4, as a majority of fantasy-esque glam is from gear which was role-locked, while a majority of modern glams are added as level 1 universal items, but post-7.4 it is no longer the case.
Was it? I always found gear restrictions to be incredibly silly considering how glamour(as in the illusion magic that exists in lore) is supposed to work, there has been times where it was depicted as far more powerful than we use it for, and if anything the limitations were lore-inaccuate.
People doomed the same way over the unlocking glamour restrictions. "Job fantasy is dead! Everyone will be wearing Paladin gear on their Red Mage!" Lo and behold that didn't happen and 95% of people just used it tastefully. The same thing will happen with this as well. There will be the usual clowns going around in their animal suits, but this time in green and pink. But for most people all this will do is give them 1 shade more accurate to their tastes.
I was rewatching the fanfest where this was announced, and some of my concerned may had been misplayed.
Yoshida phrased it as such: "So up until now, hair color, skin color, and eyes have all been-you had to choose from set presets. Now we're going to introduce a color picker for these three things, allowing you far, far more options to customize your character - again, colors that you couldn't have used before, now most of them are going to be open for use"
So, a lot more colors but not all of them. We might be limited within a certain boundary. Honestly as long as they keep the really saturated stuff out it'll probably be fine. It's the player's choice if they want to adhere strictly to lore.
I really love sunstones, and natural ones have color ranges from dark orange to brown to deep teal because the color is caused by copper inclusions. This is a VERY hard set of colors to get to look nice in FFXIV using what's available, but it was my favorite for a while so, by god, I tried.
I don't know anyone that remained upset after the update actually dropped, because players were still primarily ONLY interested in making outfits that looked good, and it resulted in happier players and better looking avatars.
Which is the goal of all of this.
Im not concerned, the people who wants to have it lore friendly are free to do that. The people who dont care are free to do that as well. Who cares if theres ugly or wierd characters running around. I personally find it funny. Its an MMO, other people play the game. Its going to happen that one day you see someone wierd. Who cares.
I just hope we get more options on face, lips, nose, ect. And more makeup options like longer lashes like Viera can have, and eyeliner and stuff like that. And more body options. Like sliders on the rest of the body (like hips, waist, thighs, butt, ect) not just the boobs. And that slider should change too and have it even smaller on the lowest slider and bigger on the highest. Stuff is too similar and its boring as hell to create characters imo.
