Need better incentive to Commendate

I think commendations are fine, but the mentor requirement for 1500 makes no sense. It only exists to delay meeting the requirements.

If you play well and don't do anything that might annoy people you'll get the comms eventually. I've heard the advice to play healer before but I'm sure most of the mine are from DPS. You will be at the whims of the rest of the party though. Some days you will get many and some days you'll get none, even if you carry a group. Try to top DPS on DPS classes and use your party mitigations. On healer use rescues (only if it will help) and keep low HP/vuln stack players alive and res quickly if people die. On tank use your party defense tools and external heals on players that take hits.

If the player is a Lala wearing a frog costume, they get a com from me even if they sat on the floor 90% of the time..LOL.

I generally com one of the DPS, especially if they performed super badly. I call it, consolation prize, hahah. No need to be super sweaty with the coms.

I usually commend people with funny names or outfits.
People also give appear to give out commendations often in frontlines, at least from what I experience so perhaps OP could get some from there.

I'mma be real, if I see a healer not DPSing or not, well, enough, I will not comm them. This goes for most of my FFXIV friends as well. The comm goes to whoever tried and contributed the most to ending the roulette's duty quickly, although bad players who wanna learn also get it . Or, y'know, have a decent personality. Green DPS isn't something you can 'opt out of' without literally standing still doing nothing or overhealing, both of which are basically just laziness or a fundamental misunderstanding of the game.

/e: Also, yeah, Frontline and casual CC does generate tons of comms too... if you pull your weight.

Ability to comm everyone quickly turns to 'it is expected to comm everyone' quickly turns to 'denying a comm to the person who made the most negative impression on me' rather than 'giving a comm to the person who made the most positive impression on me'. Then people will be like, 'I didn't get a comm, people hate me' rather than 'I didn't get a comm, no big deal, there's only so many to go around' or 'I did get a comm, someone recognized I did something useful or they just liked my leather pants'.

It would also negate the nice warm fuzzies we can collectively give a player when everyone recognizes that they are the reason we cleared the fight and giving them seven comms.

That's why I think we can't comm everyone. Keeps it positive.

Commendations are fine as they are, honestly. I don't really like this 'everything ever has to be incentivized' mentality. It's a vidya game. Incentive should be the enjoyment and engagement of the journey!

I commend folks who I think did well. Nothing else really matters. Sometimes people leave too early, so I just go with whomever but it rarely feels good.

And I’mma be real with you, hardcore players who pay attention to healers’ DPS output are not your best target audience for commendations because there aren’t many of them. Yes, cast your damage spells when healing isn’t necessary, but also don’t be stingy with your GCD heals. The normal, casual players will appreciate it and thank you for it. Save the green DPS for the Savage raids.

It seems like half the time folks are doing a scramble to get to the exit... So I commend whoever is still there when I open the panel.

I'm not a hardcore player. In fact, I rarely touch Savage at all, I usually do the start of a tier before getting bored. And again, my equally non-hardcore friends (haven't set a foot in Savage since EW) also would never commend a healer not pulling their weight to contribute to a quicker roulette. If you someone GCD heals in normal mode 8-man content, that's a sign of personal ineptitude. Not everyone who does the bare minimum (i.e. healing with OGCDs and putting as many GCDs into damage as possible) is hardcore, no: we just like playing the video game and engaging with the battle system.

I realize that people who unironically think Extremes are hard think that the idea of minmaxing outside of Savage is sacrilegious, but in dungeons and 8man alike, a bad healer can make a duty take 1.5x-2x as long. In dungeons, damage is mitigation because the packs dying is actively helpful. In trials and 8man, there are some rare healchecks (Seat of Sacrifice, Zeromus, M11?, there's lesser ones for fake soft enrages like M4) but you rarely ever need your GCD heals and, again, you have enough OCGDs to spotheal bad DPS because tanks have a decent mit kit and barely die to autos anymore. Moreover, most 8man content has DPS die from raw damage if they get too many vuln stacks, shields nonwithstanding depending on your comp. What I'm trying to say is... Engaging with the game is not hardcore, and just because the circles you've witnessed don't care to actually try to make the most of a fight, doesn't mean that that nobody else does.

e/: src: I get plenty of comms doing my thing optimizing boring roulette fights for the heck of it, lol.

*Disclaimer for those who need it: WHM is different because lilies are a gain after you get Afflatus Misery. In dungeons, SGE Toxikon is always a gain due to multitarget and therefore frequent shielding is a gain as well. SCH is highly duty-dependent and AST is... fine, it's AST. Obviously, you gotta single target GCD heal in ancient ARR dungeons, but as soon as the toolkit is in the right state, you should phase those out immediately.

I'll comm the best portrait, even if you're really bad.
If everyone has a default DMV picture, nobody gets a commendation, even if you're really good.
