I would not call Dynamis/Materia failures because the whole reasons they were made was to expand where players could be since the populated servers were so over congested. If someone doesn't wanna transfer, then fine, that's their choice. There's plenty of incentives. There's also plenty of incentives for new players to create characters on the new worlds. The whole point of these servers were because the player base was growing and the existing servers couldn't handle everyone. This was to alleviate server congestion, login times, etc. They're still baby servers, they're not failures.

Yeah, it is long gone, you know why? Because it took a long time for it to populate. Guess what? That's what it's going to take for Dynamis and Materia to populate. They're still baby servers, give them time in stead of saying they're dead and telling SE to abolish them into other DCs. Some people are happy being on the new servers. How about you just leave it at that.

Actually this is an alt, my main is on crystal, I kept my house on dynamis on alt and moved off the DC because of exactly all the issues I mentioned including the "Dynamis lockdown" which I very much disagree on.

Also good for you really for all that, its great that it worked for you, but it doesnt work for a big majority of people.

The game growth is long gone, it's stagnating and going down as time goes on, so those DC's wont "flourish" as you seem to think they will, that only happens when the game population goes up, not down.

If your main is on Crstyal and your alt is on Dynmais, what do you mean by "seeing friends having fun on discorad on crystal and primal while I was stuck on dynamis?"

Funny cause I still seem to see a lot of new players and people returning to the game. Growth doesn't seem to be going down, I think someone is just burned out and bitter.

no it is actually going down doesn't mean you see alot that the player base didn't suffer but most that have gonna dark are all endgame

The numbers from Lucky Bancho are down over 400k to 500k (as of Q1 2025 iirc) from 1.4m to at the very least 1m if not less, but sure the game is "booming"

Steam is down from 45k to barely 20k if even that, 26k as of patch day and going down slowly again.

We keep saying blizzard, but LOTRO online has neighborhoods and housing that spins up as needed as well. XIV has a lot of issues that really feel like they've been solved in other MMO's but the developers- and playerbase- are plugging their ears and saying "Nu-uh."


Also as someone on Marilith (I just moved this character over) it's not really a solution to just move to Dynamis. I'm happy on my small server but if I want to play or interact with friends, or just viti friends with cool rp spots and houses on Crystal it can be a massive PitA. This is worse for raiders who may HAVE to be on a specific server for those with statics.

Sure you can make an alt, but nothing minus a few mounts is account wide in this game and alts feel like a punishment where you have to redo all your progress you've already done.

To be fair, this is the culture that SE nurtures with their policy of "punish rather than reward" players. It's baked into their design and it shows from dungeons to housing. I'm not at all shocked that the community is what it is, and isn't what it was in FFXI.

SE needs to understand when there isn't enough for everyone, that's a problem and it breeds resentment. We all pay the same sub, and player housing should NEVER have been designed so only a few would get to enjoy it.

For that netbook, I worked around the internal storage constraints by installing FFXI to an SSD card, so FFXI itself became like a video game cartridge. Worked like a charm.

Yep, I remember! Gosh, is that old Alla forum even still around? I left it right around the rebranding to "Zam" and when the mods started whining that folks were rating down that one guy who always had something hateful to say. And I mean he ALWAYS had something hateful to say.

Wild about that kiddo - but it goes to show how small acts of kindness early in someone's life can sometimes set them on a path to success. Hopefully the kid will graduate and be set for a great job.

I'm looking for something more portable - my legion pro 5 absolutely slays anything I throw at it but the thing is a brick. and it comes with a brick. and brick + brick means a very, very heavy bag. Wish this game would run on a netbook! ha!

It actually ran decently on a Surface Book 2 before the graphics upgrade, which was relatively lightweight. The 980 mobile in there took a beating. However, the Surface Book was designed with passive heating, and the laptop couldn't keep up with the demands of high end gaming for long before its started throttling itself.

The HP Omen is fairly lightweight by itself, but it too has a brick for a power supply.

Why not get a ASUS RoG Ally X or if money is tight, a Ally Z1 Extreme? It plays this game really well and it's very portable where you can even play from the comfort of your bed.
