Dawntrail character graphics update - opinions, requests and discussion megathread

yeah the new AO/ SSAO options and even some of the previous ones, in this new patch / version, are defining with some kind of more "ray traced" or overly realistic shadow / light approach the face structure / sculpt or normals in ways that really looks uncanny a lot of the time, deactivating it helps almost finding some of the previous ways the game was rendered, but it's not the totality of the solution. But it helps.

.... On the JP forums they organized a new proper feedback, no discussion thread immediately and said "We appreciate your cooperation in the international area." so I wanted to see how things were going here, but I don't know how we're supposed to organize ourselves when everyone is being extremely emotional in their posts across several random threads without considering how difficult it's going to be to report proper feedback, and people who don't care can't resist posting anyway.

My main issue with my character's face is still very much present. Aside from the eyes being weird (as continues to be brought up by a lot of people), the mouth is completely different. I think the issue is largely with the texture overlay, but either way, to me, it's one of the biggest factors that makes my characters look different. I also wish to point out, that although the game itself has been updated, it should still be possible to access and compare the old models via the Shadowbringers benchmark. I don't know if it's still downloadable, but it should work just fine I think.

I was iffy on how I felt on how my character looked in both benchmark tests. Upon logging in for early access I absolutely HATE my WoL now. This is sadly not the same character I have been playing the game with for over a decade. I even messed around in the benchmarks beforehand to see if there are any changes I would like and there just isn't. I logged on and have just been talking with everyone instead of playing because I just cannot get over how dissatisfied I am with my character now. This is not the same character for me. I honestly don't even feel like playing the game anymore because of this.

Also, previously the neck to face ratio of hyurs was hilarious, but they actually didn't solve this, they actually amplified it, in a bad way.

I was hoping they noticed this and would reduce the circumference of the neck on hyurs but nope xD.

Swole neck is as deep as 2 times hyur's face depth. when you see it, you cannot unsee it.

When i chop oak trees in the forest, i store them in my throat.

it's so weird that the ears seemingly are unaffected by the hair updates. the light doesn't reflect off it correctly, and even appear an entirely different color under certain lighting conditions.

100% with you on this. The first couple of cut scenes have made me want to quit playing. Really seeing my character from in game cut scenes, it looks nothing like how it use too. And my Au Ra version looks even worse to me. All I see with my Miqo'te is what I would describe as "fat face"

I just want them to give us the option to go back to the old character models. Because I hate this model update. I was also on the fence with the benchmark, but that is no longer the case seeing it in game.

I will post more detailed feedback later, when I've had some time to calm down. Everything that is an issue in the benchmark is still here, if not worse. Eyes are too small and misshapen, eyeliner has been lightened to the point where it may as well not be there, lips and philtrum are the wrong shape, lip color shape has also been changed completely. I don't even want to play the game anymore.
