What will happen to dated items and dated material ?

I think a good idea for dated gear, would be to give it a legacy system of its own.

Dated becomes >>> old >>> ancient >>> etc.

Each time a stat increase or special effect of some sort. They would be sought after items, because of the rarity and stats. Also a reward for players from the before time that aquired such equipment.

Remain tradeable of course! Nothing worse than rare/ex gear.

Leave them, why not. Let it be a remnant of a time before the change to ARR. People (myself included) always like to have ruins and such from times long ago to visit, dated gear can be just like that, pieces of an age past, but not forgotten.

And for that matter - if they wanted people to steer away from dated gear of any sort to go towards new gear, since they did adjust the receipes and stats so people would want to pursue new gear, rather than the dated. Zero out the stats on the 'dated' gear, render them completely useless outside of sentimental value. Besides, converting them to materia is only dependent upon the item type and its level, not what stats the item itself has, right? (if I'm wrong on that, correct me and I will accept that.)

I cant believe so many ppl want them gone x_x
They don't have just different stats, they also look different from new ones and got better colours and many of us attached to them so much!

Imo, SE should turn em into EXClusive so they disappear from markets but those who care about dated items can still keep em and everyone's happy

I also wish to keep my dated items.
My red and green cotton...! I never made it to higher level than 21 (ish?) on any character and after getting back after almost a year I was quite disappointed with the options there are now.
I'm fond of my items and making and collecting them was a real driving force and I have lot of nostalgic feelings and good memories... My green cotton bandanas, the only things that can give me any comfort now. Velveteen ones just won't do...

In addition I wish them be tradeable! While my characters have the items I like I would really like to reset any spiritbonds every now and then by trading to lessen the possibility of losing them by accident... Also bound items are the horror.
And I may of course have more characters later and might want to borrow something nice out to them.

Currently dated things in markets are irritating (guess why I only have my dateds? Too much hassle!) but any filters available would help with this if they would be listable in markets, how ever markets would be implemented.
(I haven't been following these things, no clue if anything has been said on new market system)

...another name than Dated would not of course harm anything...

I'd rather have them re-done with proper up-to-date stats and still being with "optimal level".
That would make them useful again instead of being relic of the past.

As for sentimental value, screenshot it? That's the only sure way you'll keep them forever and ever.

You are aware that in ARR all pieces of equipment are going to have all colours available? Unlike the current dated and non-dated items in 1.0.

How do you know how the 2.0 market ward search feature work? Maybe there is a toogle to turn off dated stuff out of the search. I just say ^^

I am super against that.
Many people got rid of the dated gear because it became sub-par (too low level, e.g.) a long time ago. Not only that, it's almost impossible to craft them now.
People can't go back and craft some more.
It would be completely ridiculous of the devs to back track now.

While I did enjoy a lot of the dated gear (optimal level ftw!), as with all my gear, I materia'ed it when I was done with it.
I follow Yoshi-P advice: that we should materia it and the dated gear will progressively phase out that way while keep the "materia memory" of it.

Why? I mean... Hell, why? They are just dated items. Give players a reasonable amount of time for selling/spiritbond them and get rid of them altogether. That's a compensation.
People tend to take these kind of things as if there's no tomorrow... :/
