They're thinking about job identities for 8.0

WELL !

Until the famous 8.0 release with LOTS of copium for everyone. Why not asking for a ARR / HW Classic server ? I would gladly wait for 8.0 and play on a Classic server on the side ~~~

Look at World of Warcraft. They have it ! It's not impossible. Heck, it's WAY MORE EASIER AND POSSIBLE for FFXIV than it was for WoW at the time.

What would they even do with WHM? They practically gave away it's abilities to other healers that have since them been chopped up and renamed, removed the elements it was associated with and gave them to whatever class would be willing to take it.

It literally just throws glitter at people now and even PLD can do that.

I'm not sure if they'll actually focus on job identity in 8.0 considering the way everyone is getting even more homogenized in Dawntrail.

We'll have to see but statements like these have been said in the past and in the end nothing changed that much.

I doubt we’ll see a satisfying overhaul when accessibility seems to be top priority for their design. Even in modern gaming, skill expression and mechanical depth are usually the first things to sacrifice in the name of accessibility.

From previous interviews, it seems like 8.0 will be when the levelling system gets revised (i.e. reset vs. alternate system). That also may be the time when they re-evaluate alternate entry points into the current story campaign (i.e. uniform start from 6.x/7.0 vs. modular system where players choose how to playback older expansions). These two issues are interlinked, because it comes back to the new player experience of being caught up and brought into current content.

That in turn links into how jobs level. A lot of jobs have uneven levelling experiences because of the traditional practice of ripping out actions to make room for new ones instead of just upgrading them. A change to levelling systems likely will require them to adjust where actions are acquired on all jobs. That means reviewing absolutely everything.

I understand the importance having a personal roadmap, but I think the timing here isn't very savvy. Would have made more sense to not discuss the plan here at all, and then start introducing in the topic midway through the next patch series.

No new jobs for 8.0 all jobs are getting a major rework, look forward to it.

At least they are aware people don't like this. Its many possible they just didn't have time given dt had a graphics and character model rework. So 8.0 makes more sense for what might need to be a massive overhaul. But.. that said..risking it all on 8.0 could be foolish. Bevause what if we run into a clash of ideologies again? Then we waited 3 years for nothing. It would have been wiser to slowly implement those little bits of identity NOW... when they could actually use the feedback.. but nah.. we get ugly enshrouded sch (whyyyyyyyyyyyyy) god knows now 8.0 will just be tiny changes to test the water and we won't REALLY see this till 9.0. Honesty there's no way I'm sticking around 6 god aweful years of this. 3 is already asking a lot. I'm not getting younger

Honestly. That would be wise imo. I think now there are just TO many jobs. Its like a clown car.. absolutely ridiculous. It also means balancing is a nightmare and massively restricts what kinda evolution jobs can have. Especially if u want to custom build ur job. Less jobs = MORE JOBS. Even if it's just for now

Even if they actually address how samey every job feels and actually make them more different in 8.0, it's going to be a very slow process. This dev team is not known for making big changes all at once, we're probably looking at 9.0 or later for when we'll get jobs that are actually distinctive and have an identity of their own.

They really could've taken some small steps in DT and then made bigger changes in 8.0 instead of telling everyone to just wait 3 more years for something to maybe change.

I mean, they did it for pvp, so when there is a will there is a way.

They just don't want to.

And that is just something that I do not fully believe. The guys upgrading the shaders, textures and animation are most likely not the same people that work on class design. If they are the same people then Squenix and Yoshi-P are literally sacrificing the health and fun of the gameplay and community for a minor graphical update that only a few people asked for, while ignoring the large unhappy crowd of people who would rather have interesting gameplay then more grass on the ground.
