Realistic equipments or More fantasy equipments?

if the perfect mix with 5:5(fantasy/reality), FFXI is at 4:6 and FFXIV is at 3:7.

It looks like the artists came up with some sweet looking class/job specific armor sets, so I think they are spicing it up a bit.

Weapons are definately lacking. Need more elemental involvement at least. Offensive spells should be impressive not subtle. Things I would like to see eventually: (links to pictures are underlined)

*Elemental arrows with unique effects (Flaming arrows actually burning in active mode)(Current bows look very nice imo)
*Flaming weapons (No idea who this is but his sword is on fire)
*Frozen weapons (Ice dagger)
*Weapons crackling with lightning (zap)
*Earthen weapons made from unique ores (mythril blue, darksteel black buster sword)

I kind of hate oversized weapons myself.

Heck cloud even toned it down after 7

I would prefer more fantasy themed equipment, but I agree with toning down the MORE BLOOM = MORE POWER thing MMOs seem to love. I would love to see some kind of colorful armor that reflects the almost Renaissance vibe the game has. For anyone who's seen Kamen Rider Kiva, I would love for instance a set of stained glass armor like the Fangire had.

I dont think you have to make everything glowy to make it look interesting.

I like the gear in game at the moment. But, in saying that, I also liked the concept art for the gear which is soon to come.

FFXIV has the best gear out of any game so far in my opinion. I don't find it boring.

Ya fantasy all the way, all the gear in the game right now looks really cool and all, but all the colors for the armor pieces seem kind of dull, like really bland colors, its probably because they were trying to keep the color palate a little more realistic. But from Yoshi-P's newest sketches it looks like hes going for more fantasy-like gear :).

Depends on the class. Something like Monk I would like to have realistic gear but for something like Dark Knight I like fantasy gear. However, I don't like all the gear to be fantasy. Like 4/10 fantasy, 6/10 realistic is what I would prefer.

i like the more realistic approach but some epic fantasy equipment wouldnt hurt

Have you saw the new Gear coming up? the one that look like dark knight? all gear would not be all reality look at FFXI the starting gear look pretty much like something you can see in real life from the Monk level 8 gear too the level 7 gear and the rest was just a copy of the start gear. So don't jump and say it all be like that when the new gear look pretty bad ass from the art work so far.

I myself would prefer armor and weapons that look cool and look practical at the same time, for example the gladiator hauby outfits actually look like something a knight would wear in the olden days with a few asthetic additions. I'd really rather not see silly looking armor that would be inpractical and unsafe to wear in a combat situation, and weapons that are bigger than the person wielding it and would be impossible to lift, much less swing around. (Buster swords are a good example of what I don't really want to see in XIV)
