I mean that's the thing right - Why even bother trying to micro-manage my actual sub to get every penny out of it before I lose absolutely everything? I may as well just keep it going but lower the Retainers and Account Type. So I'm basically putting my main account in a maintenance mode.

It's not the best option, but it's the most stress-free. I already lapsed 3 other accounts this month. So that's my "Taking a break".

Is what it is, it's what I consider a break at least.

As you've pointed out in many threads in the housing subforum, it's easy to get a house right now so there's no need to worry if you do unsub longer and lose your house. Just put your furnishings into your inventory or your retainer inventory before you unsub then buy a new house when you return.


You're not going to lose any of those things just because you didn't log in for a month. That's only 30-31 days.

FC master isn't lost unless you haven't logged in for 35 days and can always be returned to you when you do log back in. The FC itself only auto-disbands if there are no other members that have been a part of the FC for at least 30 days. Houses do not auto-demolish unless the owner (or a FC member in the case of FC houses) do not enter the house for 45 days.

Take your month break without worry (unless you can't trust your other FC members, in which case why do you allow them to stay in your FC).

Fully agree. Given that we live in a capitalist society and this game is a luxury, it behooves the player to shop around and view competitor's products, especially when our own is lacking. Only in a competitive free market can we have innovation.

Again the argument falls back to, if you own a house - you have to continue to pay a monthly sub to maintain it even though you are not currently playing the game. So even if you decide to take a 4-month break for a patch - you must be paying money so you can prevent auto demo.

This is one reason I intentionally let my personal medium get demoed a few years back. Though the main one was that I simply never used it for anything. Being able to simply not log in for awhile was just a bonus. Now I have an apartment that I never use for anything instead.

My sub is always on though, that way I can just log in whenever I feel like it. No hassle.

Taking an extended break without unsubscribing does defeat the purpose of taking a break though. The loss of subscription revenue is an important tool in signalling displeasure with some or all aspects of the game.

If you own a house and really don't want to lose it, it's more of a Catch-22 than anything else if you want to actually take a break and unsub. I would love to at points if it weren't for that. Yeah, that's a personal choice, but SE knows exactly what they are doing here. Part of me wonders if that is at least one reason why they insist on keeping housing an extremely limited resource. But yeah, when I want to take a "break", I turn off my retainers and other extra commodities, and pay the base sub price per month.

And it's still not an excuse for longer patch cycles that deliver lackluster content.

Crazy thought here but you know you can actually still keep the sub but not really play it (only hopping in to do a couple of things and then your done).

How many of us have running subscriptions to services but never fully use them 24/7?

In regards to the subscription arguments/complaints for taking a break from the game. It calls into question what percentage of the playerbase actually concerns themselves with the subscription cost for one reason or another. Hell the only time I remember I pay a subscription for this game is when I see it on my bank statement and when I get the email about it charging for the billing cycle. I'd imagine there's a considerable amount of players that are the same as me in that regard either because they don't keep track of their finances or in my case have enough disposable income that I don't have to care.

I mean meh. Subscriptions can add up if you have alot of them. But I just leave them going on auto renew to avoid potential annoyance of having to restart it when I do want to use the service because it will be that moment that something like the billing system will break...
