Because a war between a greedy, ambitious empire and 3 total opposite grand companies is full of rainbows and butterflies.
Yeah, war is totally not yucky.

I was just thinking the same thing. I don't know if anyone else responded to that too but there was also blood shown in the cut scene when sephiroth pulls off the stuff from Jenova as well as the whole trail of blood he left in from Hojo's lab all the way up to where he killed president shinra (Damn that backstabber litterally and figuratively) uhm I also believe they showed bloodied parts in Crisis Core as well and also if we want to talk movies in the advent children complete blue ray they added in blood when Cloud is shot in the face by kadaj's gang. others wheren't as graphic intense so i can't tell
so. . .we need blood to make the game look better?
But it's a game war. No corpses emptying their bowels on death. No soldiers belching, farting, or pooping in the lalafell's helmet. Nobody even takes a bath or changes their undies. None of that yucky stuff.
All that happens behind the scenes. Including the blood and gore. When defeated by a head-rip ogre, he does indeed rip off our head, eats our corpse after playing around with it, just before our body reforms at the aethryte. Or why the Phoenix Down / Life spell didn't work on Aerith? They don't show that Sephiroth slices her down the middle, cleaving through bone and flesh, right before hacking off her torso. Phoenix Down doesn't work after that.
But if they placed all of her limbs and head in an urn, then burnt her body into ash, then used Phoenix Down on her ashes, they could have brought her back as a whole person. If only they hadn't dumped her parts in the water.
This isn't Game of Thrones(which is still great despite the unnecessarily obscene amounts of sex and violence) , and Final Fantasy ratings(and ratings for other pieces of media for that matter) have never suffered for their lack of copious amounts of gore. This is a video game series that prides itself on a more attractive aesthetic. It isn't however afraid to use it in a way that adds power, feeling, and emotion to a specific scene, and we shouldn't be opposed to the devs' creative freedom either in doing so.
I'm all for whatever works, but I'm pretty much against the use of gratuitous anything, especially violence. If you want that, then Sony's E3 media briefing should have been right up your alley, what with God of War 4 having Kratos dissect an elephant man's head in the worst way possible or Last of Us having its protagonist blowing the face of a random dude with a 12 gauge.
It's strange. People always clamor that video games' level of violence serves to desensitize people to it, but I've found myself pretty off put and disgusted by it as I continue playing.
I'd like to see a toggle to turn gore on myself, and we should have an execution feature as well. It would be awesome!
I like this idea, i'm kinda meh on the fact that the hit effects make it seem like every living thing is made of flint instead of flesh and bone so imo this would be a welcome change.
