I would like to encourage everyone to keep providing the feedback YoshiP asked for.

I can sympathise with the Healers. Pressing glare/broil/whatever 8 million times for another expansion is very depressing. I'm just not sure why it's being discussed in the dps forums. Tanks and Healers have gotten fucked over the years, and the devs obviously rather create another cash shop mount than to put in effort at making the two most important roles in the game not a chore to play. I just question whether such infighting is productive. Healers bashing sams isn't gonna bring cleric stance back, nor are sams insulting Healers gonna revert kenki into no longer being a gyoten meter.

We have a common foe of the devs “un-funning" every Job, all roles should be united in telling the devs to pull their finger out, as unlikely as it is they read the forums.

True, maybe insult is too far. Also obligatory fuck the devs for gutting trick and making mug another generic 5% damage up buff on a 2 minute cooldown. Our subs go towards the devs paychecks, least they can do is put their two brain cells together and come up with something interesting. If it's not fun, why bother.

Petition to transfer the ninja devs, Sam devs, and the people in charge of healer design for the last 5 years into the cash shop programming department. At least if they screw up there it would mean less money will be spent by us. They can gut the cash shop as gutting is clearly their passion and nothing of value would be lost.

I’ll start by disclosing that I don’t main Samurai, or play it to any meaningful extent, but I agree with many Samurai mains that these changes compromise the core aspect of the job and diminish the rewarding playstyle that it provided.

As a friend who does main samurai since the job was originally released put it, “imagine if they removed dragon kick, gave bootshine auto crit without it, but cut the potency of your chakra finishers to half and gave it to twin snakes and snap.” Basically, removing a cool ability that is a meaningful part of the job, and killing the impact felt by playing properly and building your resources. It’s like a story that doesn’t have any rising action, and the climax is something boring and predictable.

SE is removing the feel of playing a samurai from SAM, taking away the buildup, the oomph, and what’s left is a more generic and bland play-style. I don’t have to play the job to understand the outcry against these changes.

Please SE, look at the negative impact this has had on the enjoyment of your player base, and consider reverting these drastic changes. I want to keep playing an MMO in which each job has an least some semblance of unique identity. Otherwise, what’s the point of having different jobs to choose from?

Don’t forget Samurai do overall less damage now, with them literally nerfing the class as a whole. Nothing can convince me otherwise with how bad it feels and how the damage is now. I’ve tested it and compared it to both before the change and to my Reaper class (which has not as good gear, but still pretty decent, both at lvl 90).

Before, when both slashes for Nakagiri crit with Kaiten, the damage would total up to about 120k, give or take depending on variables. Now, with the nerfs, it would barely do 60k. Half the damage if that at times! Increasing some of the potency of attacks by 10 or 20 CANNOT make up for that. They didn’t even reduce the cooldown at all, making it feel incredibly pointless than compared to the other finished (the name escapes me at the moment. It’s the main finisher after getting all three stacks).

Compared to my Reaper job, with my Samurai having my best gear, it now does LESS damage than Reaper! A noticeable amount to were I cannot justify playing a Samurai anymore.

When you nerf a job that is supposed to be for main damage with no support, you’re basically killing it. As of now, Red Mage would be better than it because it can still do decent damage, can Rez, and has the magical barrier.

Heck, I barely see any Samurai players now! Since the update, I’ve only seen two! Everyone I’ve seen in my server are quitting the job for another!

Also as a side note, they claimed the changes were made to reduce button bloat (which I kind of have to call them out on since Samurai didn’t have that issue at all), but they didn’t see that in Dragoon, which has so many things you need to remember and babysit that it always gives me a headache using it and distracts me from the fight.

Along this line of thinking, given how fun and engaging SAM is in PVP I expect there to actually be an increase in SAM numbers, at least in the short term. I also suspect that SE will use this as justification that the SAM changes aren't as bad as the community is making them out to be, because clearly their internal numbers show that the SAM population is either growing or has remained stable.

Do not let them get away with this. While SAM in PVP is loads of fun, SAM in PVE is a dumpster fire. If SE at any time claims that SAM numbers haven't gone down, do not accept that. Refute their numbers until and unless they can show a breakdown between SAM numbers in PVP vs. SAM numbers in PVE. Simply showing the absolute number of people who play SAM in 6.1 compared to 6.0 will not be an accurate representation of how many people enjoy the job in PVE. It will be a diluted pool of data that includes PVP and PVE SAM's unless they can show us otherwise.

I hate that I have to say this, to warn people to watch out for this kind of statistical sleight-of-hand. But after what SE has pulled I am no longer so trusting.

Since you are inviting all jobs, I'll make one more post about brd. Compared to the media tour version the job lost the core part of its rotation. Without double procs, there isn't much to manage in terms of ogcds outside your burst (and the burst is currently too predictable for me personally, though it is nice to see it be busy like that). Mages ballad isn't really more interactive than army's peon in EW and the song flexibility and recoverability isn't great.

In terms of the added abilities, blast arrow is a great addition since it makes the apex gauge have a purpose. On the other hand, radiant finale is just a second battlevoice at the moment and the coda serve no purpose (due to its cooldown and due to the songs cooldown) other than potentially punish deaths (and make burst better after 2 minutes which is a good thing, but it would be great to have it be more nuanced than just that).

Of course changing it to something like the media tour version would probably require some damage nerfs to counterbalance the damage increase from more bloodletters during MB but I think many bard mains during shb or SB would like to see more of the ogcd focus of the job return.

If that's not the direction square wants bard to take, that's fine with me as long as it finds a new core element for the job to do as currently it has lost much of its nuance that made the job interesting and gave it a nice skill ceiling to work towards even if it was for a minor statistically higher dps increase.

There will never be enough topics on this subject until the SAM changes are reverted to their 6.0 state and the dev team addresses the long-standing problems their direction of job design has had for a variety of other jobs and roles. The dumbing down and "easy for the devs, crap for the players" approach stops here and now.

Honestly, i feel like a lot of us finally ventured into these forums for the first time to give a piece of our mind regarding these changes to samurai. I have a really bad take regarding the samurai changes and that is samurai pvp is more complex with less buttons and more satisfying than its pve counterpart. Sure, it's two different systems but that was the point - pvp sam has more soul in it than pve is right now.

That said, i do believe they forgot - or most likely don't care (we're guinea pigs for their crit changes experiment is what it feels like tbh) - that sam is a dang PURE DPS and right now, it sure doesn't feel like one.
