No, but if there was a server that was for black people only who would be against it? A marginalised group wanting a space AWAY from the one's who marginalise them is nothing new and is totally fine to me. It is a place they want to have and be in due to shared experiences with their peers.

Sorry but there are plenty spaces that cater to men, gentlemens clubs meant for men, higher up in plenty companies is all men, places that might allow women but are not safe or welcoming to women in the least, sex based spaces exist everywhere, toilets, sports teams etc. You are not being refused a job, you are not a victim of a hate crime because you cannot join a discord meant for women as a man. And even then, this particular discord allows men entry in a more limited fashion.
Don't act as though people are against men because of a single sex based discord.

Saying that ''that is not the same thing'' is not an argument. You could say the same thing about tons of horrendous practices. Let me give you an example: Enslaving black people is different from enslaving white people. Saying it's different means nothing, you are just saying it because you don't have an actual argument why discrimination against men is acceptable.


The point of me saying that it is sarcasm is that some people might misunderstand that what I am saying is my actual position rather than me making a point.

Nah, you're comparing an attempt to create a space where gamer girls, a minority in a male-dominated world, can do voice chat without the assembled male audience losing it and trying to be witty/original/desirable. XIV is somewhat of an exception to that, but it's still the same thing in many scenarios. There might be people among them who had to deal with sexism, discrimination, harassment and the like, and just want a place where they don't have to deal with all that crap.

This isn't the same as sexism at the workplace, or worse, racism. This is a chat for girls who want to be with other girls, and no guys.

Apples and oranges. Let's keep our feet on the ground.

They created a place away from sexism by being sexist. It totally makes sense if you think about it.

I think a lot of people forget that in cases like this, where women try to ensure only "real women" are allowed in a certain space, they often end up attacking or excluding the wrong people. Like someone else said, voice verification is extremely inaccurate. I've met some cis women with some pretty husky voices. They would get called men by these "real women" and chased off. The same way they attack women with broad shoulders that they encounter in public bathrooms because they think they're trans women and therefore just men trying to sneak in there and peep at women.

I saw all that go down on Twitter when it happened, so it was a relief to see that they couldn't just come here and pretend all that didn't happen and rope in more innocent people, but it's also disappointing to see people encouraging it.

It's a private discord. They can do what they want.

That being said...

1) You don't have to agree with it.
2) You don't have to agree with their practices, which to me at least are shady. Especially the streamer situation I read in those posts.
3) You don't have to join that community, be a part of it, or interact with it in any way.
4) It's entirely valid to critique or point out bad practices all around. Example, how they handled their streamers. The harassment of the minor inside the discord. Etc.

From what I can see, that discord is doing a good job all on its own for destroying itself. Seeing how they treated their streamers, harassment of a minor, and the weird way they go about things is just... concerning, but that's their problem to deal with.

If some girls want a "safe space" away from us guys, have a ball. Absolutely nothing wrong with that premise. The purpose of the discord shouldn't be the 'issue', but the actions that occur from it should be.

They didn't create a place away from sexism, they created one away from men. Away from guys who mistake any community comprising women as a dating market, and anyone with female sex organs as valid targets.

I'm a man, I can attest that most of us are cool with girls being fellow players, who have no interest in relationship and all that jazz, but there are still enough idiots who just won't get it.

Yeah. It's just such a shoddy way to figure out who "the real (tm) women" are. It's extremely disrespectful, discouraging, and altogether disheartening to see such discriminatory actions from a group that claims to be a safe space.
