Shit server code is why we don't have more non-instanced content, and that should be taken care of by 2.0. I don't really see the benefits of instanced stuff in an MMO outside of specific storyline content, although I guess said benefits exist.
THe current engine requires the instancing. Partially due to number of total characters and npcs displayable on the screen at once, and the server design, 2.0 can allow for the change.
I would like a poll on peoples' preferences for open world vs. instanced. I agree with Jynx... they should ask us directly about this.
"Would you welcome changes to FINAL FANTASY XIV that would drastically alter the rules already set in Eorzea?" is extremely vague. It does not = "We will all welcome and love any changes made to the game, no questions asked!"
And yes, all the hate for Roki is childish. :\
Congrats on your third gold Roki. :3
So the 5 World NM are instanced huh?
As are all the Settlements?
Yeah game can handle it Yoshi just dont want it, same reason right now we dont have alliance content yet because they dont want it until 2.0. What they are doing is creating half assed content to tie us over until the relaunch, which i can understand because why should they release all the good stuff when 2.0 is such a major change. 2.0 needs to be epic its the only way the game will survive.
Instanced Dungeons: Yes. Think Assault, Salvage, Dynamis, etc. However, the open world "dungeons" we have (Mistbeard Cove, Copperbell Mines, Mun-tuy) should be made more interesting as well, maybe with unique mob families, treasure chests that require keys dropped from those mobs, etc.
Instanced Boss Fights: Sometimes. We have a good system going now with the primals, yet open world "HNMs" would also be welcome.
Instanced Battles/Events: No. No no. It makes it even harder for players to just pop in and enjoy. If this game is to be easily accessible, it's completely backwards to make content like this 8 person party only. We should be able to "party up" for things like this but also be able to take part solo. Campaign and Besieged were good examples of this from FFXI, and the Imperial Assault events are a good example of this that we have in this game now. Hamlet Defense is a BAD example of this.
What do medals even mean anyway?
I'm fine with instanced content, but some stuff is just better in an open world. or actually what I should say is that the coexistence of the two, allowing for choice, would be an optimum direction
