SE are leaving BLM to rot by giving SMN and RDM even more utility

This restriction is also only really prevalent in the more sHC and HC groups. So if you don't have those aspirations, then it really doesn't even matter. You'll find a static as a BLM.

I would be ver-y upset to lose VerRaise on RDM.

Bad puns aside, I would legitimately be against the removal of VerRaise.

If Black Mages are upset about not being able to raise, then why not prioritize asking for that over wanting raise abilities to be removed from summoners or red mages?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'll be quite upset if I can no longer raise as a summoner.

Asking for raise to be removed from summoner or red mage so you can eke out extra damage is weird because most of the players who would ask for this aren't at a skill-cap on either job that they can access this hypothetical extra damage so it's a moot point.

Raises steal clears, and removing the ability to steal clears from these jobs just so a small subset of people can feel like they can bring the jobs into a form of content farming that doesn't matter in terms of job balance is a silly thing to ask for.

I enjoy saving a run with a clutch Resurrect, but if I lost it I'd probably be fine. Of course if it were taken away from me I'd like something in return, so... Maybe not what the OP would want, since we'd lose situational utility for something else that could wind up being more broad reaching utility.

Why are people saying BLM's damage is its utility? Am I missing something?

BlackMage and Summoner do almost the exact same dps, but even by a miniscule amount, SMN actually OUTDAMAGES BLM. Look up the statistics (I'm not sure if I can link anything here).

BLM doesn't nearly do enough damage to justify the lack of resurrection, but perhaps the 3% devotion next expansion is an answer to this concern.

EDIT: Also want to add that dps requirements have been a non-issue for ages now. There's hardly any dps checks mid fight anymore and the enrages continue to be too lenient to warrant the need of a single class to make or break a run. It's always so derailing to see people constantly say "BLM's utility is its damage" when it's outdps'd by a class like NIN merely because of its incredible Trick attack utility.

The supposedly intended design of Black Mage is that it provides the most damage but with the least party utility as a tradeoff, so none of its abilities work as buffs or the like toward other party members; it's the casting equivalent to the Samurai job.

So, in that sense, it not having a raise spell technically makes sense, although I also wouldn't be opposed to it receiving one so that it's not the sole outlier among the casters when it comes to resurrection potential.

Considering the dev team seems very determined to kill Resurrection on Summoner. Verraise has to die with it otherwise Red Mage instantly becomes a guaranteed job much in the same vein Dragoon and Ninja were locked in during Heavenswards and Stormblood.

Uhh... yes it does. At 80% Summoner only ever out-dpses Black Mage in Oracle. And only in rDPS. In every other fight, Black Mage is anywhere from a 100 to nearly 1000 rDPS above Summoner while absolutely demolishing it in aDPS. Ninja doesn't come anywhere close to Black Mage. So I have no idea where you got that nonsense.

Good news for some folks. Yoshi has stated that if SMN rework in 6.x is a success from a balance perspective, raise will be removed in 7.0. It was only included in 6.x as an insurance in case they messed up balance.

If people expected us to raise them, might as well remove them completely”, but I feel that those who think so are ones who are blessed with connections through static parties. I also used to see comments about “what about Black Mages, will they gain any methods to resurrect?” and the development team inquired about the possibility, to which I replied “There are no resurrection type spells for Black Mages to use their Swiftcast on”. So yes, I apologize. There were jokes about having to resurrect up to 4 times using Triplecast and Swiftcast but I don’t think Black Mages would be using Resurrection spells even if they have one. I mean, Black Mages are destructive and they are experts in destruction… (laughs bitterly)

I highly doubt SE will allow RDM raise to exist as freely either if that happens, so it'll either be neutered or removed (in which case they can get some other white mage spell for flavor that's situational like vercure but not a must have like raise) as well. After all, raise tax is stupid and this will finally get to balance SMN and RDM with BLM (who now have ample mobility unlike popular opinion).

Black mages do not want rez lol, we're a selfish DPS and any utility will ruin job identity. U gonna ask for portable ley lines now too?
