So what your saying is destroy the future to live in the past, XIV is probably 10 years of profit for SE in the future, XI has maybe 2 more years of profitability left once SE irons out the issues with XIV which should be done no later then September. So for right now since BOTH XIV and XI servers use up maybe 10% of SE power consumption it is no big deal and will not hurt the people of Japan. Especially since the province where the servers are located is under 0 orders to conserve power.
Keep the 14 servers down. Save money/energy SE.

i'll match opinion with opinion. since xi users have a free month and are not paying for it, se is working on the new game not the old outdated one, and they need the xiv servers up for opinions why not keep the xi servers down and put up the xiv servers. it will save energy and since nobody is paying for the servers this month and they are not working on it right now they could conserve and save.

For the very few in this thread who believe it is in the best intrest of se and Japan for them to keep the servers down longer...do your part and DO NOT log back in until you feel it has been a reasonable amount of time to do so. As for the rest of us, we will be logging in bright and early fri morning.
And as much as I bet you hate to admit it...I bet you guys who keep complaining that the servers are coming back up, will be logging in right along with us. so stfu now! -

Ok OP I'll bite. FFXI is a MMO past its prime its only going to decay at this point, but most importantly FFXI has a stable player base.
FFXIV on the other hand is a new MMO with potential to be better and a dying player base. If SE shuts down FFXIV servers the game has a higher chance of dying completely. Then what would SE do from there? Make a new MMO? Considering the amount of time and money SE has already spent in keeping FFXIV alive the logical choice would be to let FFXI die instead.
