Time is Running Out for the Ascian's Plan?

I was doing the Warring Triad today on my LP alt, and I had kind of forgotten that Unukalhai's master is Elidibus. Now I'm trying to think about why he'd direct Unukalhai to have us defeat the Warring Triad. How does that relate to Ascian plans at large? Will think about it more after I play through 3.3~3.5 as well.

I think we have to assume it actually happened in the story, it was a major cut-scene before facing the big main bad guy of the MSQ up to that point.

As to how it was done, I don't really know. If I had to guess at magical mumbo-jumbo I'd say he used you as a gate or conduit or whatever and called out to anyone vaguely "attuned" to you to come help out for a bit. Intending it to be temporary, a pre-existing link to the WoL, and the WoL's own massive reserve of TP-juice (anima), should all add up to make the summoning easier.

It is one of those things I wish the characters thought to ask though, leaving aside the coming and going from the first for a moment, it'd just be a really useful trick to be able to pull off in general.

It certainly feels like a Chekhov's Gun just waiting to be fired. Along with being from the 13th they must have some plans on resolving things with him, I just wonder what at this point.

As far as I'm concerned they've already failed. One of the shards has already been consumed and become The Void. It cannot be merged with the Source (I assume), so their rejoining is already a bust. :\ Sorry Emet. You guys effed up.

It doesn’t seem like Zodiark needs all of them merged to be released, so while it isn’t helpful it isn’t a definite failure. And it’s possible it can be reversed. They certainly seem to be leaning towards that.

Unukalhai is another name for the star Alpha Serpentis

In Tactics, Elidibus holds the Serpentarius stone.

My theory, is that Unukalhai is connected to Elidibus:
- We found out that in FFXIV, Elidibus, Emet-Selch, Lahabrea are just titles, not the name
- We found out that the original Elidibus became Zodiark's heart
- That means the Elidibus we meet in the game is not the original Elidibus
- We have assumed that the original Elidibus, Emet-Selch and Lahabrea are unsundered
- but that Elidibus is not the Elidibus we meet in the game, so the Elidibus we know is a sundered being

My theory is:
- Unukalhai is a piece of sundered soul of our Elidibus. Like the WoL, this Elidibus was a sundered soul who has been rejoined at least 7 times.. or maybe more because he seems to be as powerful as Lahabrea and Emet-Selch
- We know that Ardbert's soul can rejoin with us without the shard being rejoined so it's possible that this Elidibus has been visiting each remaining shard and has been rejoining his souls. It's possible that he's 12 out of 13 parts rejoined with Unukalhai being the remaining one.

That was what the scions speculated, but I have a feeling that the Elidibus we know is the Elidibus of old, because he is most certainly unsundered. We know for certain that he is unsundered because he is of The Source, same as Lahabrea and Emet-selch. We know this because he was able to come and go as he pleases from anywhere, something the sundered ascians cannot do (see events with Nabriales).

I believe that as the, "heart" of Zodiark he was still alive. Much in the same way Estinien was still alive when Nidhogg consumed him. Much in the same way Dayan was still alive inside of Alexander. Similar to how Zenos becomes the, "Heart of the Wyrm." If we go by referencing Final Fantasy Tactics, the optional boss Elidibus in that game has a summon called Zodiark, the only place to obtain it in the game, and it's learned by your team, similar to how one would learn Blue Magic in 5, 6, and XI. Of course, he only has this summon after using the 13th hidden Zodiac stone, to transform into a Lucavi.

I think he became separated from Zodiark in a fashion similar to how Minfilia is first merged with and then separated from Hydaelyn. Only, Elidibus was separated from Zodiark by Hydaelyn. I reason that this is the reason that Hydaelyn's attacks "enervate," that she was designed to stop Zodiark without killing their fellow Ancients.

Of course, I admit my theory is mostly speculation, but I really do think the Scions' own statements are speculation in kind. It's meant as a loose foreshadowing that could honestly go either way.

I do like your link, if anything there's been an eerie amount of references to serpents. Makes me think of Great Serpent of Ronka. Your theory seems interesting, though it just raises further questions about why would he have him do anything else other than be absorbed? Hmmm.

Keep in mind, it's possible for the Elidibus we know to not be the original from before Zodiark's summoning, and for him to also be an unsundered.

This is just a theory but I believe it has to do with the type of Calamity the Warring Triad would cause, Sephirot being the 1st world tree would most likely cause an Earth/water Calamity, Sophia causing a Wind/thunder, and Zurvan causing a fire/ice one.

How does this tie back to wanting them gone, since we started playing in 2.0 every major plan where the Ascians wanted a Calamity has been geared towards Light/Umbral Aspected, Ultima, Thordan, WoD, Black Rose, the only oddball is Shinyru but Elidibus never said he wanted a Calamity when he gave the eyes to Ilberd so could be it infers that was never the intention when he gave the eyes away.

This suggest that since Bahamut's Calamity that they have been priming the 1st for a rejoining waiting for the moment both it and the source are ready.

Now though what type of rejoining is Elidibus after?, a light one still? Or that of another aspect? There are 5 more shards that could be getting primed as we are on the 1st and everything Elidibus has been doing recently has been biding time, but for what? Your guess is as good as mine on that department.

It was a means to an end to fix the mess that Lahabrea left. I'm guessing the original plan had Thordan setting them free and them killing him for the eye then they would go back to their forever war with each other.
