I personally wouldn't like that. I like the idea of living in a community with others, its unique and adds a nice social aspect.

I think its possible for them to come up with a fix without resorting to instanced housing. I don't know what they would have to do, but i do hope they plan on overhauling it.

Because right now its handled poorly. Not enough houses to go around, people owning multiple/many houses, people breaking the rules by flipping houses.

I know someone like Yoshida can fix this, hes a smart man. But i don't think its a priority for them right now.

I think the biggest problem is that those who own a home pretty much get first dibs on the housing knocked out by the demolition timer, making it very difficult for new players to get a house. I feel like there needs to be some kind of community lottery system where new players hoping to get a home can get a chance at a demoed home without current homeowners moving their homes onto the open plot dashing new player's hopes and thus wasting their time.

Most people with homes have already dealt with the placard lottery where you click spam to get a house. And they get dibs with relocation because they aren't just taking away a new plot, they're making their old one available, just moving. It also costs them money. Only a very small % is debited when you relocate (1/3 of minimum value not the amount you paid) I think a new form of lottery for first time home buyers will not work, because people will cry it's still RNG, just a new type. Only instanced housing like apartments will 100% get rid of the "I can't get a house" threads. If they won't do this, then square enix can add incentives to worlds with empty plots for a more balanced population. They said they're not adding new wards yet because some worlds on certain datacenters have them. Like Crystal server has so so many houses in Goblin, Brynhildr, Malboro and everyone else is crowded in Balmung & Mateus.

All this being said, a timer / cooldown on relocation would prevent people from deliberately trolling by resetting timers for first time home buyers. The person who owns half a ward in Gilgamesh was bragging about doing that to grief people because they're at max gil cap.

To clarify, they wouldn't lose their House. SE can either simply make a copy of it and move it to the new system as is (ideal, since we wouldn't have to refurbish everything), or they can simply say; "We're deleting the old Wards in X days, you have until then to relocate to the new area", in which case you only lose your House if you don't relocate, and they can simply reuse the same moving system that we got with Shirogane to facilitate that. If someone is taking a break they'd perhaps lose out, but I imagine auto-demolish already hits such people, and speaking of the auto-demolish timer would be a good baseline to set for the "Move in X days" timer.

If they do add a new system though, it's a complete waste to keep the old one in place as well. They could keep it as sort of a "Legacy" thing, and just never add new Wards to it again, but that strikes me as a waste of server resources if they've made a superior system to replace it, would make sense to phase out the old system.

How do you feel about the idea of simply making the Plots instanced? Keep the current zones as is, but rather than having several Wards and Subdivisions, make the Plots instanced and we just have the one version of Lavender Beds/etc.

Essentially, that gives us instanced Housing, and say an unlimited number of people could purchase Lavender Beds Plot 3, for example. We'd still have all the Housing areas, just one version of each, so we'd retain that neighborhood feel, it's just we'd enter an instance at say the placard, rather than the door to the House, perhaps build up the fences a bit more and add a gate so we can't jump into Plots anymore given they'd be instanced. You'd still get to pick which Plot you want to own and walk around the zone itself, just you'd enter the Plot differently.

In theory that should allow them to do more with outdoor furniture, given right now the limit is based on the fact that, unlike the interior, the outside is always loaded regardless of whether people are there, as such the amount we can place in gardens has always been limited by that. That is where the strain on the system is, after all. Every Plot has a Garden, and every Garden is constantly loaded because it isn't in an instanced zone. Interiors are instanced, so in theory we could have an unlimited number of them, but they're tied to Gardens, so we can't. Move the Garden to the instance as well? Hopefully that significantly reduces the strain on server resources.

I also think it would actually improve the neighborhood feel, rather than reduce it, since you'd essentially take everyone split across 18 Wards and 18 Subdivisions, and put them in a single zone. All 36 people who currently own Plot 5, for example, would now be sitting in the same zone outside their instanced version of Plot 5. That should make the Market Boards/etc feel much more busy and improve the community aspect a great deal, since it would also be far easier to go visit other peoples Estates, you'd no longer need to go through Wards and Subdivisions, you'd just go to a Plot, select from a list much like with Apartments/Private Rooms, and go visit a Plot. Throw in a system where by a snapshot of peoples Estates is taken and displayed in the zone, perhaps with a star marking their Plot as the one currently being displayed? Heck you could even tie in Guest Books and that whole rating system to have some form of "competitive" Housing system for fun. Might be a bit weird entering the Goblet and seeing different Plots displayed each time, but it at least lets you see what other people have done and perhaps gets people more involved in visiting others Plots.

The way Yoshi hinted at it during the NA fanfest makes me think whatever they have planned is both semi secret and heavily tied to the ishgard restoration. I don't think he can tell us anything about it without giving away something about ishgard restoration which they're not prepared to do yet.

Based on them saying Ishgard Restoration will be in 5.1 or later, I wouldn't expect whatever this housing is, to be talked about before 5.05 or 5.15.

I get its still largely wishful thinking on my part but I'm still hopeful for Ishgard housing in the 5.1-5.2 series.

Please do elaborate, entirely possible SE changed how that works since the last time I actually had to way back in 2.x. Back then you needed what, 90k Free Company Credits to reach Rank 6? Can't see how you can do that in a couple of minutes, even if you've planned ahead of time with plenty of items to turn in; Something I doubt most casual or completely new Free Companies will be able to do, but I guess that's their fault.

Either way, a 2 minute delay is going to cost you most of the large plots if literally anyone can just transfer over and buy up plots solo. That's also not factoring in forming up the Free Company, if your entire Free Company is moving, four of you better book Tuesday off work so you can jump on at 11AM BST sharp to form up and grind the points to even buy the plot... Again, if people can buy solo then a lot of those plots are just going to vanish while a Free Company does that... I think there are enough delays involved with Free Companies getting those plots to justify giving them priority, and once more, this is based off a Free Company that is hyper active in forming up and grinding to Rank 6, which really shouldn't be the standard we base this off of...

That's what you get for turning purchasable HQ gear on the marketboard. At ~10k a pop, it's less than 2m to grind to level 6. Takes about an hour to go through every server. Takes less than 10 minutes to turn everything in.

Square Enix doesn't care about transactions that happen between players. Unless someone gets scammed. Period.

The last neighbor I bought out had a small plot in the middle of nowhere in the Mist and they couldn't be more happy to receive 30x the cost of their plot to relocate elsewhere. People tend to change their mind about nearly everything once it starts benefiting them and you're no different.

Not true, they put in a fail safe option and it failed and more fc's got more houses which should of been limited basically the fail safe broke if I remember right.

I could care less about housing, I don't know why they invest in such a broken system I would scrap the housing all together in those zones make apt's with balcony's with grass its not like people come to view your setup.

put a workshop on bottom floor have settings to allow people to come in make the inside kinda like ps3's home where its a door you go in its like a full apartment with a balcony if not make you pay gil to upgrade inside for space.

small first setting, medium second and large last.

make voyages and airship things inside lobby with workshop use the other space in the housing district to put on town events or make it a hang out spot.

to me that's a fix.

of course they would have to give people back their gil for purchases but it would be worth it.

Yeah at this point the whole system needs some kind of overhaul, and if they're really set on keeping wards then there should at least be some kind of instanced housing on the side. Like somebody's example of extendable apartments with balconies for gardening.

Really? That's super scummy if it's true. And hopefully reportable? Because deliberately resetting that ridiculously long timer to mess with people has gotta fall under gameplay obstruction...
