I have been using raise macros since mid 2000s in ffxi and never have I been told they are annoying or a nuisance. But I keep it limited to pt chat (not alliance or say/shout like some) do not use sound effects nor do I use text walls.
imo macros like raise serve a function and as long as they aren't overbearing or going to ding ding ding ding each time its cool. If the macro serves no other function than to rp or annoy, then yes you may get a boot. I personally have kicked people for macroing cures, esunas, Aetherflows, adlo/succors, banes, sustains, and ocd abilties amongst other things. It's usually rp ppl that don't understand its super annoying to non rp players and get all offended and nasty when you tell them to shut them off.
If you wanna rp do it in /echo but if it serves a function its good to have in chat. I actually get a lil pevved by healers who don't have raise macros cause then I normally blow my swiftcast for nothing and then its on cooldown when actually needed.

I saw one in a FATE group that said "<character's name> press start to continue" I laughed every time it was used.

I'm fine with macros in general. I'm most certainly not fine with those who decide that having them is good grounds to spam them for every damn spell, even less so in casual content. Worse still are those who type in twenty-bazillion sounds to make it obnoxiously loud and/or with a full-on autobiography attached for good measure. If you're going to use them, do everyone a favour - keep it to the point. Whatever 'funny' long-ass sentence you have peppered with those obnoxious smileys and ASCII pictures will most likely cease to be amusing after the 2nd button press. Anything important enough to tie to a macro should be kept noticeable. Whenever I hear overly loud noises and see a whole novel pop up in chat, I ignore chat.

It looks like I'm probably just going to keep going without using one. I've seen multiple co-healers just in the past couple weeks get complaints about their macros, none of which were "bad" macros.

I don't bother with macros. On KB+M, I had Swiftcast bound to E and Raise bound to R. It was pretty easy to revive someone, and I rarely ran into trouble with trying to revive someone who was already being revived.
I'm on controller now, and selecting party members is a tiny bit slower. On my RDM, I have Swiftcast and Verraise bound to the RT + LT hotbar, with Swiftcast on Triangle and Verraise on Up.

I use a raise macro with sound on my Red Mage even and never have received complaints. On the other hand perhaps their response to that has been not giving me comms, lol

Personally I don't use a res macro even though I used to since I tend to spam click and I don't want to flood party chat.
That being said, I can see why people don't like res macros. Sometimes I tank or dps in DF when I'm not feeling annoyed with pug healers in one way or another. When I end up dying because of reasons that aren't my fault (Raidwide aoe after being low health for more than 10 gcds for instance) and a healer casts a guilt-tripping rez macro that accuses me of being a bad player for standing in an aoe or something, it makes me really want to slap them.

I’ve never seen raise chat macros complained about since I’ve been playing, but as a healer I can see where they’re useful. I am a little annoyed by those long rp-style macros but not enough to complain as it still lets me know when someone else got to a dead party member first. Personally if I use something it’s a short “raising <t>” maybe with a little chime.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I hate when my Co-healer doesn't use a raise macro.
Like someone said before, WHM is hard casting rez on one of 4 dead dps. Who does my swiftrez go to? 9/10 times it'll be whoever they're hard raising. Proceed to lose 6+ seconds of heals and additional dps from a second raise.

I have gotten complaints but it isn't too often, I feel like it's worth it though cuz that double swift vast raise on the same person hurts so much xD
