I never said this mindset solved anything. I merely offered a different perspective on the issue. I sincerely sympathize with all those effected and it really sucks that it exists.

What I've seen is people demanding SE fix the problem. Which is likely not within their ability to do. Which is why I bothered to offer a different perspective. I'm assuming people don't understand the big picture here and are genuinely not so self-centered that they think the world as a whole revolves around them.

This is the way it is with businesses, size and perspective is EVERYTHING.

If I understand you correctly, you are stating that "Regardless of size, there is still an issue present" (paraphrasing of course). Which I do not dispute. There is obviously an issue and it sucks.

What I bring to the conversation is that "Regardless of the issue, its size is what determines the action taken to correct it."

Again, not arguing against anything regarding this topic, it seriously sucks. Just looking at it from a different angle.

What does that comment actually do to help this problem? What does it actually contribute to this thread? Other than saying "Tough kuponuts, no one in power cares"?
Those of us who are affected by this are actively trying to communicate with the people who have the power to fix this, and you, someone with no real investment into this problem, is coming in here with the attitude of "lol you don't matter" What is that actually adding?

We know how business works, we know businesses want to make money not spend it, we're not stupid or "self-centered." You should also know that customers want the product that they pay for, and we will continue to be squeaky wheels until they either fix it, or it becomes enough of a problem to end our business with them. And most of us don't want that. We like this game and want to play it, and we know SE wants us to continue playing it, so we post, we contact our ISPs, and SE support. We don't need someone to barge in and say "mmmmmm but you're not everyone so tough luck i guess." We've done this song and dance with Verizon and the Canadian servers dropping packets. We're used to this, and we're still going to try to get this solved.




Back to the proper topic, I'm just going to be opening tickets with SE and my ISP whenever I experience this problem, since now there is no other official avenue to communicate in bulk with the people who can solve this. Honestly, if they want us to post on the tech support forum, lets. I see no problem in making that section of the forum unusable.

i don't think the actual server location is the problem so much as something is going horribly wrong with the ISP in San Jose.
I live so close to the server my ping hovers around 12 yet I still need a VPN to keep it from routing towards San Jose since it just melts down there almost nightly

You'd think a client as big as S-E would have enough sway to get them to fix it but s'pose not

As I alluded too before....the issue I'm seeing is Comcast customers getting "jacked" in their routing tables.

You may want to start there.
OR anything routed through them.

Course may be spreading further than that.

I know numerous friends who are suffering regardless of location - but all share one thing - comcast.

Pretty much this. Always San Jose, always nightly, always the instance server crashing (meaning likely bottlenecking), and always Comcast.

SE might want to have a disclaimer saying something along the lines of "if your ISP is Comcast, play on the Chaos Datacenter" because you'll have a better connection to the EU servers than to the NA ones.

For what it's worth, I have Comcast and I'm all the way in north Florida, yet I don't have any of the problems described in this thread. Typically if I have a problem, it's something being caused by Comcast directly (like a local outage or system maintenance) or it's a straight problem with the server itself.

Because of how routing works. You may have issues with Service A while Service B works just fine because something between your location and Service A is disrupting your signal, but there's nothing along B's path to hamper your connection. In other words, because your connection to both services are going along different "routes". The interruption could be caused by any number of things, but it's often times congestion caused by there being more connections than the node being passed through can handle. In fact, you can generally bet your bottom dollar on the problem being congestion if it mostly happens during very specific times of the day.

It's just like real life automobile traffic; certain times of the day certain areas of a city (older ones especially) might become heavily congested with stop-and-go traffic because there are too many cars trying to pass through the same few intersections. Internet routing is the same way, except it's just data across wires instead of cars on asphalt. If there are more cars (data/connections) than the intersection (node) can handle, you start getting traffic jams (slow or dropped connections or lost packets). Other areas of the city may not experience traffic jams at all even though it has the same number of cars going through just because it's better designed and can pass more cars through each intersection at once. You could think of FFXIV being on the outskirts of the congested area and something else like Warcraft being in the opposite direction in the freer-flowing area of town: it's easier to reach Warcraft because you don't have to deal with that traffic jam. In addition, some people may not have trouble reaching FFXIV either, even during rush hour, because they're traveling from a direction that bypasses the traffic congestion.

My wife explained this to me when I was doing cisco classes.
She is a tier 3 tech for a isp and most of there router have low priority ping/icmp to prevent / curve DDOS.
