March 22nd.
yes, let's move them, if we wait too long, the game will not survive from this
I do not think you guys understand what would be necessary to move an entire server farm from one country to the other. We're trying to move 1... 1 SERVER. 1 SERVER at my office. 1 small little OU Blade less then 20 pounds.
It has been 3 months.
Thank you, Mikita, for clarifying. But what I'm wondering now is... if all electronics are able to use both 50hz and 60hz, then why are they having problems? Can't the server farm housing XIV servers just use 60hz? (Maybe I mixed 50hz and 60hz up)
Yeah, and it's not like they can transfer the data using the interwebz since they can't even turn on their servers to begin with.
Let me add to Cairdeas' reasoning:
1) Buy the servers from the server farm owner (I'm 90% sure SE are currently renting the server space, they do not own them)
2) Get the servers out of the building
3) Load servers onto truck/U-haul equivalent
3) Drive them to airport (while making sure they're not damaged during the trip)
4) Wait at airport for several days until a spot opens up (since most air traffic is reserved for getting essential stuff into the country)
5) Fly them over to the US (closest)
6) Get them out of the airport (declare them, go through customs (possibly having to wait a few days)
7) Drive them to new server farm
8) Set it up (days of work)
Did I forget something?
Yeah other ways of doing it like a back up redundancy.
I bet on April 1st SE will post a "Servers back up tonight!" post on their homepage and then follow it up with a "lol j/k" post on April 2nd.
I love FF both 11 and 14. I think it will take at least until Monday if not longer. When they do come back up, I would be willing to pay for 14. I will wait patiently no matter how long it takes.
I suppose the servers might be able to use 60Hz power, but the problem is:
- The functional power generators in eastern Japan aren't capable of providing enough electricity to make up for the lost power plants.
- There is no real way to send power from western Japan.
So even if the servers can use dual frequencies, there just isn't enough power in the system to keep everything going at 100%.
Um. I hope that makes sense. ><
As I stated before no it is not possible, the reasoning is that the 50hz system operates mostly on 220v it is the EU standard, the NA standard is 60hz 120v. What Japan needs to do is rework there electrical grid after the crisis is averted. The problem there like the USA is that no one wants to spend the money now until it is to late. Back in the 1970's when it was first told to the US that we needed to rework our electrical grid it would have cost somewhere around 300 million, now to do it it would probably cost in the billions. Even tho it might save Trillions people do not look at it this way.
