People will soon realize that you can't just go and put the D anywhere you want. Not everyone appreciates having a D put right in their face for instance.

I assume that this was done to keep a significant difference in color even for the colorblind people.

Otherwise we would have a red A and a green D, which more or less look too similar to be distinguishable on first sight.

I'm speaking about normal vision. Dev should make a clorblind mode for colorblind people, not make the game colorblind for everyone. Most of the game propose a colorblind mode nowadays.
Having a purple D won't help my colorblind heal understand the color of the up/down debuff of A8S neither the symbol color of A10S.
Actually he cannot distinguish red from purple now that I think about it, which is why he has trouble in A6S and A8S.

It is a bow waymark to tell the BRD where it must go.
