BLM. Ahriman. Nuff said.
Let's say they don't. Thank you.
Nostalgia, mainly.
It seems one of the viewpoints going around pertaining to FFXIV is that
1) things FF has done before (whether it's once or in every iteration) is wonderful
2) new things that FF wants to try is horrible and doesn't belong in the franchise
Unfortunately, this kind of view will only server to stagnate the growth of the franchise.
NO! It's called consistency and makes the world more believable and helps immersion. Chocobos are bred to be mounts not Gobbues or Ahriman. I like the lore as it is, no need to mess with it.
I don't see how the franchise can stagnate by making the iconic chocobo that everyone loves the only mount.
Innovation and progress builds on a well established base. That base is the lore of FF and need not to be changed to grow.
becasuse your wrong.
magitek mounts only existed in 1 out of 14 games and all of its spin off games if i just read correctly (reading up on it now).
sure chocobos are the only animal mount i was able to freely ride on, but Shoopuffs are a perfect example that Chocobos are not the only animals bred to be mounts whatsoever in the franchise.
if you want to talk about consistancy then why not the entire aesthetic of the game? XI and XIV are two games out of 14 that look nothing like the rest of the entire franchise.
i absolutely agree though that flying mobs and Gobbues should not at all be mounts, they just dont make much sense. Gobbues are clunky bipeds, since when would that make a suitable mount?
I realize I made the point in this thread about mounts, but my post was really addressing the overall concept that keeping things the same all the time without creating new elements can stagnate a franchise. I wasn't really referring to mounts or FFXIV specifically with that statement, even though it does apply.
