I still think I'd want to wash my hands of it. You know, flush the memories away.
Indeed, a few people who are currently jerks would then become jerks and have 0 way to actually do anything about it (as your DPS would be posted after the dungeon ends). Even if it didn't, the people who are already jerks would continue to be jerks. 90% of the playerbase would still be nice and kind the way they already are, but people would be able to see how they are performing and adapt.
As mentioned earlier, instead of fostering elitism, we are fostering frustration, ignorance and incompetence. (I disagree that a parser would even foster elitism, it would just be used by the people who are already elitists).
I completely agree. I'd rather a realtime parser, so you can see how your numbers change as you change your rotation, as the pull sizes changed, how you did on certain pulls and/or bosses and how you do with different party compositions. You can monitor how you improve or degrade your performance.
Percentiles would definitely be needed in the OP idea.
Come on, please don't act like people don't already ignore mechanics in this game, it is just as rampant as any game I have played with meters in them. I would much rather have the person ignoring the mechanics at least push out more dps while doing that.
Also, "It would just breed elitism..." lol. That fear mongering.
Do you find the game that horrible? If so, may I ask what you get from it?
I would like post duty results. Performance assessment is a great tool in RPGs and Mmos. It is one of the small things that holds this game back from being great instead of just good. Hopefully we can see something like this in the future.
Not really fear mongering when you see it already in the game.

I was just having some fun with the OP's choice of 'dung' (shudder) as abbreviation for dungeon :p I do in fact love this game.
Shock horror! You mean its there already!? Without some kind of parser!?
You are afraid that if people can see their performance, they will actively try to improve it... and that jerks are going to be jerks, but the jerks are already in the game...
but yes, fear mongering.
What I am saying is we have no reason to show other people our stats, if I see I did bad, I will see it and try to improve myself. Cant say the same for everyone but guess what, if they don't want to do better having stats shown will not have them suddenly feel guilty and turn it around. Also, I would work on that sarcasm, kinda lacking.
The reason why showing other people is so that you can know if you did bad. If you get an arbitrary number. Let's say you are a SMN, "You did 2 million damage this run". Great? Now let's put some context in. The SCH did 1.6 million, the DRK did 3.5 million and the BRD did 4.2 million. As a SMN you probably should be the highest with your massive AoE in a dungeon, but you're sitting at almost half of the tank's damage. Not so great.
