Just something else to do in the game to keep me from getting bored. Same reason I am leveling up other jobs, gets kind of boring only using one or two all the time.
I don't prefer DPS or heals over each other, I just swap between the two randomly when I feel like it.

Couple of Reasons really. Talking from SCH perspective here.
- Eos does most of the healing, I'm a sub-par extra DPS which turns healer when things go sideways
- I can keep a bad tank alive, a good tank can't keep a bad healer or bad DPS alive
- I like helping people, Healers are great helpers
- That moment when you are in a raid, everyone goes down. You are the last (wo)man standing. Everything starts charging at you. LB3 bar finally finishes and you press that button. BAM everyone back. You just saved the day. They won't thank you for it, but damn will you feel good and epic at that moment.
- Que times
- My FC mates consider me to be contender for top FC healer (Vee if you reading this; the student shall surpass the master!)
- I always PVP with my girlfriend and best friend, they generally are immortal when I'm healing PVP
-
2 very simple reasons: short queue times, and scholar is a very fun class to play.
-
I heal because...well, after trying out ARC and LNC in the beta and then stopping for months, I wanted to try out something new when I finally decided to play for the long term. Being my first major MMO, I had barely any idea what to do, but the faster queue times were nice and I eventually got the role down. I'm also very bad at remembering rotations and figuring out when to blow cooldowns and such, so I stick to healing and tanking for that reason. I also enjoy getting to know content well enough to stance dance optimally, and adjust to any mistakes that are made. ^^

At first I picked up healing not because I like the role of healing but because of how much I love playing Scholar, especially for end game. If we only had White Mage and Astrologian then I would not have developed a practiced hand at healing, similar to why I haven't seriously picked up tanking till Dark Knight came along. However now I am at a point where I enjoy playing all 3 roles, experiencing each perspective fully even in savage content........also let's be real here tank and healer queues are the best.
DPS - Get a rush from perfecting rotations and damage output through various mechanics
Heals - Get a rush from countering intense raid damage and multitasking between raid support and dealing damage.
Tank - Get a rush from holding down huge packs of mobs in key positions for both healers and dps
-
I heal because i want to play the role of support. I want to help my team mates out so i like classes like PLD, AST, SCH, and BRD. The second reason why i like being a healer is the short queue times....seriously it amazes me how short the wait is for tanks and healers

The simple answer is because I hate you all.
I want to see you get blasted by fire. I want to see mobs stab you with their swords/claws/teeth. I want to watch Bahamut and Thordan step on your with their giant feet. And I relish when Titan punches you in the face for staring at his tiny loincloth. And then I'm going to heal you so that you won't have to stop when it happens again, and again, and again. You just keep on those mobs and poke poke poke away like the proverbial form of needle-torture that you are, and I'll make sure that every kick, every slap, every gut-rending slice, and every debilitating evisceration is healed up so that you won't have any excuse to run away.
And don't think dying will help you escape. I burned things alive for a few levels so that I can swiftcast resurrection, so rest assured I'll have you back on your feet as expediently and as often as possible. So get back in there and keep getting wrecked. Don't worry, I'm watching.

Because I like having control over who lives and who dies? Oh wait, everyone gave that answer, damn.
I do it because it's my favorite type of play in MMOs. Tanking has always made me a nervous wreck in this game, and similar MMOs. DPS on the other hand I either find boring in many games, or stressful in its own way because I know others around me are watching my rotation, numbers, etc... I don't play this game to feel stress. While healing may be stressful at times, overall I find it to be a much more calming and therefore fun experience.

I heal as my secondary class simply because I enjoy the gameplay. After DPSing as a MCH as my main, SCH healing is incredibly laid back and easy, but not so easy it gets dull like tanking is. I'm also not having to rely on anyone else to keep me alive, (barring the tank dying and us wiping as a whole). If I make a mistake, I know that I can be the one to solve it, rather than have to hope that the healer is paying attention/available to heal my wounds before I die. I suppose it's the independence of the gameplay as much as anything that draws me to the class....

Why do i heal...?
1. It is fun
2. It's a job I can do well without spoiling content for myself by reviewing it a billion times over on YouTube beforehand.
3. It can be disorienting when you are forced to be in a big group hug with the boss constantly.
If I didn't heal I would probably be a Dark Knight....but tanking is irritating because everyone wants you to review the content a billion times over on YouTube beforehand...while they personally only watched it once...then have the nerve to blame things on you when there is a wipe. Really...can I just enjoy the game?
So there you go, I heal because that helps me to enjoy the game. That should be the bottom line for everyone I think.
