Yea...except even if we had 100 options for each piece of gear, we'd just end up picking the one that had the most "damage".
Max DPS is nonnegotiable - if two fights require different stats, then that simply means more grinding to get more gear...it leads to again the illusion of choice, not actual choice.
When every choice but 1 is incorrect, you have no choice.
Tank choice is the same way - the only difference being its a lot more difficult to say what is "comfortable" hp levels for a tank...not really though. All STR all the time is still and should be the default unless your healers cannot handle it...in most cases this means the healer should get better.
