This can actually be an interesting discussion. Eliteness in PVE takes skill too, just a different set of skills when compared to PVP games.
You mentioned: knowing your rotations (practice), study the fight timings and mechanics (comprehension).
I'll add: knowing how to gear properly (mathematics), being able to feel a boss encounter's rhythm (experience), being able to work with your team (teamwork).
And then: put all these together during the actual fights.
There are reasons why a lot of groups can't clear final coil before echo, and more haven't cleared savage coil even though the base game is the same for everyone. Those that can are the elites.
Even if you can, there are groups like Lucrecia etc battling out for world firsts. Those are the super elites.
And the reward for being the elite? You set the trend, and the bar by which everyone else is measured against:
Who figured out the optimal rotation for your job?
Who devised the strategies you read to tackle those boss fights/mechanics?
Who set the DPS bars other people try to match?
There are probably more. But if you are an elite, people copy and learn from you.
