So is everyone then obligated to examine the gear of the entire group before starting a dungeon in order to determine loot priorities? No thanks. If a player is in need of an upgrade that the content provides, they should feel compelled to express it rather than assume everyone else will just pass it off to them. Raging about it after the fact doesn't change the fact that the loot system works to prioritize gear needs based on class/job, and that's the only restriction. Otherwise, everyone has an equal right to roll on any loot they choose regardless of their reasons for needing it. That's not selfish, it's how the game is designed and works as intended. Stop being a victim.

You're trying so hard to deflect responsibility and vocabulary while pretending other people are playing the victim. Adotes!

I think it was demonstrably not okay at the time since it resulted in a boot. And, yes, that is a valid reason to role, as it allows you to roll, but that doesn't make it right or justified. Just because a game allows you to play a certain way does not mean it is moral or just to do so. I personally think it's a dick move for the following reasons"
1. Relative Scarcity- getting a drop for a specific class is a pain. Seals are so ubiquitous you literally can not walk out of a sanctuary without a ready opportunity to gain them. Arguing you "need" that drop for seals is disingenuous.
(divided because 1000 characters it the limit)

2. Relative Need- one party does not need the drop to alter their interaction with most of the game's moving parts. Even if we assume the seals are going to manuals that is only an expedient and not something that alters the player's experience beyond shortening the grind. Should the drop be obtained by the party that could treat it as an upgrade their interaction with the game is improved. They are made a little better at the game.* The person using it for seals is not.
3. Opportunity is not Justification- Just because you can doesn't mean it's okay to do it.
4. It's Easily Avoidable- When you go into a duty there are, at most, four other people that can need on drops with you. You can probably tell from a quick glance at their hp who has lower gear. If you want to confirm it's a click away.

Now, if dudes want to be selfish, by all means, go ahead. But it's childish to pretend everyone else is going to be okay with that when they're already sharing time with you. Complaining because one put their needs in front of others and they didn't agree that that was justified is something one's supposed to have grown out of by the age of 7.

*This is not to say player skill is unimportant, but you can't do much with i50 no matter how good you are. You simply will not survive the room wide attacks.

And yet the ironic thing here is that you're claiming people who need on things for reasons other than ilevel are selfish. Yet, in the same thread you are insinuating you are more entitled to an item than someone else is just because you feel you need it more than they do. Which, in and of itself, is completely selfish.

I'm sorry, but if I run older dungeons all day long for desynth items (as I did all day this past weekend), I'm just as entitled to roll on them as anyone else in the party. Because in turn, desynthing items improves my character by improving a skill I have which coincides with my crafting classes. Other people may need them for seals because their working on their Zodiac, which again, is to improve their character.

Examining gears is useless. I am a desynthetizer, GSM WVR and LTH. Looking at my gear would give you no indication of that, yet I need them badly.

Unhappy ? Run the dungeon again, dozens of times a day, just like we do.

Back when i110 or i90 was BiS(idr) ran a PF PUG Garuda Ex as OT. Partyleader DRG eats a slipstream from chirada while I'm still mid-process of positioning her at the south end of the board (tornados haven't spawned yet).

DPS check fail causes wipe, we back out,

I'm kicked.

I wish them best of luck. I jumped into an instant DF queue pop (perks of being a tank) clear after to get the taste out of my mouth.

--to the topic above, kicking someone over dungeon loot is silly. drama llama. If it were a loot-and-leave or ninja-lot in a farm party for raids/trials, that's another story. But dungeons.. whaat

Once again I feel the need/greed definitions elude many people. I can't be the only one out there who examines people who use the same gear type to see which pieces they need at the start of a run and if neither of us need for upgrade, greed, unless it is a piece that I am running that dungeon specifically for so I can glamour (took 11 runs of t5 before I got tank helm to glamour). Because seals =/= need and if I get it I get it at that point and if not hopefully someone upgrades their off classes and uses it.

I guess consideration for other people is a trait non existent in MMOs of today.

I have no problem passing on gear if someone notifies me that they need it. I usually always wait a while to roll anyway, just in case someone says anything.

You're saying that I'm selfish if I don't examine the gear of everyone in an instance prior to rolling. I think that's insane. I am not a selfish person or a selfish player. You can disagree with that all you'd like, but the people that matter to me would never describe me as selfish. So, I'm fine.
