The relic weapon quest is OBSCENELY boring...

I had enough [whatever] in me to complete the books and get Animus. Materia has put a stop to that progress though. I have all the Alexs, but I refuse to either spend my life's savings on materia or burn out my brain again (happened once already, see atma farming pre-nerf) with spiritbonding. I want to have fun here, not stress over such utter bullcrap.

I'll admit melding a weapon is certainly the worst part of the process simply do to the cost. I've done 4 of them so I know what that entails.

Honestly it only took me 5 days to go from animus to nexus so its not that bad. Ive yet to do zodiac but doubt it can be so bad.

Just meld it with 3 stats and be done. You can always go back and change it.

This is how I feel, plus I just can't help but feel like a game giving you lots of busy work instead of challenges is just copping out in this day and age.

I'm also past the point where I can endure boredom for the sake of having fun at a later date.

It's far from impossible to create fun content in a modern MMO. Other developers are doing it. I just feel like most of the relic grind is more of a blatant excuse to send veteran players back into old content for the people leveling than it is actual content.

I'm picturing the devs saying "We want veteran players to help new players level. How can we do that?" and thus the questline was born...

This. If I could carry multiple books rather than doing one at a time, that would help a little.

Just think, some people want even more of this. But thanks for sharing your opinions! The only part of the books i dislike is the waiting on FATE's to randomly pop.

What's enjoyable by rehashing old content in a long monotonous quest line? Post Titan there's literally nothing unique in this quest.

Absolute worst idea I have seen in an MMO and I have been around since UO. I did the EQ1 relics and they were fun, nigh impossible but fun. I did the FFXI ones too, took forever but had a sense of accomplishment and made we WANT to do another... This game actually makes me not want to play this game. I choked down the book grind ok whatever, I was helping FC mates anyway. But the materia crap is nothing more than a lazy, piss poor design way to bleed gil from the economy. Zero fun, zero challenge. It's just a money sink. I have no desire to take this any further especially since it is 100x easier to get a better weapon in other ways. I have said it before.


"Attaining a relic is like owning a classic car. You just let it sit in your garage most of the time, working on it when you get bored. You know someday it will be beautiful but that it will never be as useful as your current car and will cost 1000x more. You will take it out from time to time to show it off to friends, but mostly you will just let it sit there and wonder, why in the hell did I bother in the first place."

OK, so this may be a silly question, but please humor me, as once I got my relic weapon, it's all I've used, as I upgraded it with my SMN.

I'm thinking about maybe not worrying with it on my Ninja...so what is my next best way to go for a decent weapon for endgame? Am I going to be stuck HAVING to start doing Coil for a good weapon? Or will it just be a matter of getting the Ironworks weapon or something? Just curious.
