Question to Devs about 3.0 new jobs relic weapons

Way too much work for them to keep the current relic system in place for Heavensward. And to be honest, I'll be glad to see it die the death it deserves. The only real reason anyone would want to finish it is for the achievements and for the appearance. As a weapon, it has ALWAYS lagged behind other items and likely always will.

Well apparently it wasn't so lagging behind when Nexus became almost equal to an HA weapon. Boy the salt I mined from the forums when the raiders cried over it. Guarentee that Zodiac will repeat that again.

The Relic questline is extraordinarily casual friendly. It's also very time-intensive, yes, but it was clearly designed to cater to casual MMO players that would likely never step foot in a raid.

If you think SE is going to make new players in Heavensward re-do the entire grind, you're going to be greatly disappointed.

A lot of people who do coils also do relics so that logic is flawed.

I think best thing to do will be have new alternative weapon start at 3.0 with it's own questline of which new players can choose to start at that one if wanted to skip old relic one, but that new one would be weaker in stats than if combine/merge old relic one from those who did it to enhance and increase the power of the new weapon above what those who started only on new weapon alone would have. So an option to combine or merge the old with new to greatly enhance the new would be the ideal solution to me, the new alone without merging would be okay but weaker than if merge the two if done old and new.

There is absolutely nothing difficult about this quest line. All you need is patience and a rabbit could make it through to the end.

Nexus was straight up better than HA. Similarly, Zodiac +1 will be better than Dreadwyrm (due to relic weapons ignoring stat caps) if it gets bumped up to 135 like Nexus did to match HA weapons.

By that logic, why force players to do the entire 2.0 content to reach 3.0 or start at level 1 if they are new to the game by 3.0? Heck, just get rid of 2.0 entirely since anything before 3.0 is obviously no longer relevant. Remember, people once believed the relic grind from its original state was going to stay as is, but every few patches keep chipping the old grind off; Atmas and Alexandrites drop more frequently and light grinding has been eased as well.No one is ever going to go through the long painful grinds that the original relic runners have done, just like how people doing coil now will never experience the original difficulty. I think the grinds in the past are only to get even easier and possibly be solo for the entire thing and that goes beyond the relics. That is as far as Square is going to go for catch up and they are not going to make everything in 2.0 super easy for the sake of the new player, nor are they going to let them skip everything and leave them confused on why NPCs keep referencing stuff from 2.0 that they never read.

Keep telling yourself that. Nexus was nearly as strong as a HA weapon and the massive amounts of raiders whining about it proved it. If it really was weaker, no one would complain about it. And as many people had proved at the time, with the right stat set ups, a Nexus could be better than a HA. THAT'S why the raiders complained because they felt that a "filthy casual weapon" was better than the weapon they had to grind for in content where you can insta wipe over and over again.

Besides maybe crafting, Relic/Zodiac is the only real long term investment the game currently offers (that isn't artificially time-gated). I don't see SE killing one of their longest forms of relevant content (relevant meaning, at its apex, it remains a viable weapon). At the moment, nothing in the game requires having it because of more convenient alternatives, so the argument of its "difficulty" (or inaccessibility) to new players really doesn't make sense. It really is the only thing that keeps old content viable.

Introducing another grind weapon apart from the relic/zodiac quest at Heavensward only adds to the amount of content available to the playerbase on top of relic. I can see them making the new quest superior for a time, then switching back to content for relic, alternating between the two. All the while weaving tome/primal/coil alternatives as well.
