The unique tag helps create diversity in gear. It's what makes Ramuh's melee ring (slightly) better than either of the two i110 rings. 110 is just a number and not even that special of a number to boot.

Why even have 2 rings?
The game treats it like one anyway. They should combine it like the Earrings slot.
IMO Belt should be treated as an accessory and be the 5th slot. Armor should be things that are actually visible, like shoulders:
[Head]........[neck]
[Shoulders]..[earrings]
[Hands].......[Wrist]
[Legs].........[rings]
[Feet].........[Belt]
why do you need i110 if you aren't doing coil? coil 2 especially lower turns do not require anywhere NEAR 110, nor does it require a static, i logged on last tuesday, joined a pf with my alt class (since my main has t6/t8 pieces) and bam 1 shot t6 with PF group, not static... no need for static, please stop saying this.
I was thinking more about this, wondering why ANY of the tome gear was unique and not just untradable? It doesn't make much sense - who cares if you spend your tomes on more than 1 of a piece that can't be sold or traded (notwithstanding my issue with the rings)?
I think the only reason the gear is coded this way is because SE will be changing it to a dungeon drop in the future (like they did with all the Darklight gear). Myth gear will go to dungeons and myth tomes will be scrapped. Then the same for Soldiery. Ignoring the fact that you can actually have 5 pieces of the same "Unique" gear (by giving one to each of your retainers to hold) it makes sense to have dungeon dropped gear unique to keep you from winning gear from people that don't already have it.

Without the HA weapon, you can't reach average item level 110 without the coil ring since there's no alternative second i110 ring.
I can clear Turn 8 no problem but the ring doesn't drop for me. Until the game wants to stop being stubborn, I would never reach i110. There's this big misconception with coil drops. Just because you don't have a certain drop doesn't mean you aren't doing the content. It can also mean that you aren't lucky.
